Ashley Posted 30 May 2013 Author Posted 30 May 2013 Surely be moved to another stadium or something? I doubt it. IF this is true I feel very sorry for the Loyal England fans who have travelled all that way and spent god knows how much money! On the other hand if one of Brazils major stadiums is in this state when the WC 2014 is what, a year away I am very worried!
AKCJ Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 What ****ing idiot made the decision to host it in the first place? and his mate who decided to call it off 3 days before it wants sacking.
Yojoe36 Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 And the WC is being hosted there in in just a year's time. Fvck me.
ScouseFox Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 If I'd bought a ticket to go to Brazil and watched the Ireland game I'd be delighted if it was called off. Could think of a billion better things to do in Rio.
wattolcfc Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 If I'd bought a ticket to go to Brazil and watched the Ireland game I'd be delighted if it was called off. Could think of a billion better things to do in Rio. Name them, i've got all week...
Trav Le Bleu Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 Decision subject to review - according to BBC Sport website.
Leicesterpool Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 Sounds a bit fishy to me, why was this decision so last minute
Trav Le Bleu Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 You'd have thought they would be keen to show that they can overcome such problems and at least move the match to another stadium.
Corky Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 Sounds a bit fishy to me, why was this decision so last minute Scared of being humiliated after England's display last night.
Guest ttfn Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 As an aside I think Brazil are in big trouble regarding hosting this World Cup. Detailed ticketing arrangements were available for the 2010 World Cup (which had its share of "not ready" fears itself) in March 2009. Here we are almost three months (20% in terms of time to the tournament) later and not only is ticketing information not forthcoming but they're having to openly admit that their main stadium isn't fit for purpose.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 Shocking considering I know many an England fan who have flown out today
Leicesterpool Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 Most England fans would have flown out tomorrow, but those poor buggers won't be able to get refunds on flight tickets or accommodation. This could be the final nail in the coffin for the world cup, they've already been threatened to have it took off them!
Jace Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 When you look at the state of many of the buildings in Rio doesn't look lke they have very strict building regulations over there must be quite bad to not meet their standards of safety
Jaspa Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 When you look at the state of many of the buildings in Rio doesn't look lke they have very strict building regulations over there must be quite bad to not meet their standards of safety If its Fifa regulated it has to meet international regulations Reports saying it just paperwork not being put through on time, I guess we'll see
Amin Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 Brazil effectively won the right to host the 2014 World Cup in 2004 and were officially chosen in 2007. It took them another two years to announce the host cities. That's five years wasted. Now they are in a rush to get the majority of the stadiums ready for the Confederations Cup, which probably means we'll see more controversies like this in a fortnight.
Leicesterpool Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 Just saying the world cup was took off Brazil, where would the world cup be next year?
Soar Fox Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 Just saying the world cup was took off Brazil, where would the world cup be next year? England surely would be on a list of possibilities.
Guest Bilo Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 I would say England would be high on the list of possibilites too, we could pretty much host it tomorrow if needed. The Olympics showed we are capable of hosting major sporting events without royally fvcking it up.
Leicesterpool Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 I think you have to stadiums over 38,000 capacity which we have, Wembley, Old Trafford, Olympic Stadium, Emirates, St James, Stadium Of Light, Etihad, Villa Park, Hillsborough, Anfield, Goodison (though its a little old) & even twickenham could be used.
separator Posted 30 May 2013 Posted 30 May 2013 No doubt we could host the world cup at short notice, all the infrastructure is here; large stadiums, transport, airports etc, proven ability to host major events but I can't see Brazil not hosting it. It would be highly embarrassing if that was to happen, especially as they have the Olympics in 2016 as well. They are allegedly one of the fastest growing economies so will get it sorted i'm sure. Weren't Greece pouring concrete and building roads weeks before their Olympics kicked off. They have left it late though. I went through Sao Paulo airport last year and they only just started construction for a new terminal specifically built for the World Cup / Olympics. Won't be ready until March next year.
LanguedocFox Posted 31 May 2013 Posted 31 May 2013 This is from the BBC website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22725420 So it looks like it's on. However, as a general issue, next year's World Cup is heading for disaster unless there is some massive progress in infrastructure improvements. You really do have to admire FIFA, don't you.
Fox92 Posted 31 May 2013 Posted 31 May 2013 You really do have to admire FIFA, don't you. Anything to prevent England holding it.
