We are the only team in the Championship not to have signed anyone.. A closer look though will tell you that most new signing for all the clubs are Free transfers.. with only Wigan, Leeds, Huddesfield and Derby actually paying much for a single player.

 

I am not surprised we have signed no-one but on a slightly more concerning note for me, it makes me think that we are not going to be able to off load many of the SVEN contracts to other championship clubs, so we are going to be stuck with Gally, Wellens, SSL etc it was intersting Drinkwater was not in the squad for Fridays game... maybe he is in talks elsewhere

 

How do you think this will impact on our season... mid table for me if the squad remains the same and falling foul of FFP is a distinct possibility

The Merc has printed a helpful list of Championship ins/outs this summer with just three (!) weeks to go until the new season. It makes for some interesting reading and makes me feel a whole lot better about our inactivity. Apart from Wigan, I don't see a team that has made a good bunch of quality/proven signings.

In response to some, I am not actually bothered we have not signed anyone yet, I find it slightly more interesting that clubs are obviously not spending much cash and that possibly means that the players we need to off load to assist in our compliance with FFP will  not be going anywhere, and that in turn leaves us in a vulnerable position...

 

And I agree that just signing players does not always mean success but... having more of the same tends to give you....more of the same!!

To be fair I was actually more worried before seeing that list, couldn't give a toss now, no outstanding business there.

 

Reckon QPR getting Danny Simpson is the pick of the bunch. Think Grant Holt will struggle, Perch was never outstanding at this level and a bit of a joke figure in the Prem and Scott Carson is decent but not as good as Kasper imo.

As we did not manage to off load any of these last season I don't see how we can expet to now. Loans to save a bit on the wages looks to be the best opition now, and let's pray Beckfords deal go's thourgh.

As for how it will affect the squad and our final position, we do have several players who can improve on last season. Formation is the big one along with a more consistent level of performance. Oh and a defence that can keep a few clean sheets would help.

There will be no way we wont sign at least one player, before the season even if it is just a loan. Still a couple of weeks till the season, so isnt need to panic yet.

 

Our team is only going to improve due to the young players we have they are only going to get more experienced and capable.

Early doors I'm looking at Reading, Bolton, Wigan, F*****, Ipswich and us for the Top Six. QPR will implode.

In theory we'd start with a better squad than we started last season. A full season of Wood and Nuge plus a hopefully longer fit spell for James. Also players like Marshall could step it up and be like a new signing. CB is most worrying for me as I trust neither of Whitbread or Sledge, but starting with either alongside Wes wouldn't be a disaster. Bench will probably look bare of any game changers though.
