Langley Posted 25 December 2013 Posted 25 December 2013 Just saw something on twitter that said to give the owners an applause on the 12th minute for their service to the club. Wiped out or debt, aren't changing our name or our colour like other owners. When they first came to our club I did have the thought that they might want to mess around with the club especially when they re-named our stadium and put their brand on our shirts but they have been good to their word. Free scarfs, pies and pints for away days and wiping out our club debt. What do you think?

Deucalion Posted 25 December 2013 Posted 25 December 2013 I was the only person in the West Stand (that I could see) that did the ticker-tape thing on 19:19 so I would like to think I would do this. I think they deserve some recognition, rather than hostility about something they may or may not ever do. But to be honest, unless a load of other people do it, I will probably forget. There's nothing like holding a big bag of paper to remind you to do something !!

All this pre-planned stuff is nonsense. Go down and sing your heart out in support of the team for the duration of the game instead. You never know, you might enjoy it.

They've run the club remarkably well since the Sven debacle, but it's all to get into the Premier League. Once we're there an established, we'll be making an absolute packet for them in Thailand. I wouldn't be surprised to see that channelled into extending the King Power empire into Europe if I'm honest. There's no point pretending this is a philanthropic act because it isn't. In summary, I'm pleased with the way the club is being run and thank goodness we don't have a Tan or an Allam here but I'm too cynical to think it's for anything other than long-term financial gain.

They're out to expand their business and make a profit but I think that we could have had worse owners and I'm grateful that they're ours. It could be the idiot who's taken over Cardiff with a "you're going to change colour now" or "they can die when they want" attitude up at Hull. But they've been pretty good and I'll applaud them for that.

Deucalion Posted 25 December 2013 Posted 25 December 2013 We could go back to the good old days of having a board of local businessmen out for a profit without ever dipping into their own pockets to achieve it. Anyone here old enough to remember the self-serving mediocrity which used to run the club? Our current owners are what I hoped and prayed for to end the constant underachievement which has been the norm for Leicester City since the end of the 1960s. I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but our stints in the top flight have been getting shorter and less frequent since then. Something needed to change and these owners are the only people in our recent history to dig into their own pockets and have a punt on Leicester being successful. I will clap without reservation.
Dan Posted 26 December 2013 Posted 26 December 2013 Whilst I'm grateful for what the owners have done, I think it speaks huge volumes of what a state football is in when actually clearing up a mess you contributed to making is seen as some sort of miracle. That isn't a pop at them at all, as they have bucked the trend - but lets not pretend that 'trend' is anything other than a huge farce. Credit to them for this regardless though. They seem to learn from their mistakes.

Our owners are proving to be pretty good as owners go and they're easing a lot of fears. But the critics are still right, all they're currently doing is fixing their own mess to help secure FFP. We're going to applaud that fanatically? To put in to context, last time a club did a fixed applause on a set minute of the game was it not when a Leeds club legend died tragically young in a highly emotional suicide that shocked football?

Although personally am not either way for or against the applause - I don't think they've quite done enough as people have pointed out they're just rectifying their mistakes - however I'd show my appreciation if this started as the club is heading in the right direction and for that they deserve a lot of credit. Although I can see your point about Mr speed it shouldn't be used to compare and say we shouldn't do this because this was clearly more important. Context city Fans used to sing manderics name but the thais are now proving their totally shoulders above mandy who let's face it was hit and miss.

I dont agree with Finnegan. Applause can be to simply say thank you to the owners for putting our great club back on the map. It doesn't have to be saved solely for the recognition of tragedies or for some historical event.

One might also say that a minutes clap at the beginning of a game is still a period when nothing else is happening, whereas this clap is intended to be done during the game when people are hopefully already clapping and singing etc.
