If we kept Pearson and then 15-20 games in we were below mid table and struggling then it would still of been wrong to sack him at that time. I said at the time, keep him and unless were struggling, Id keep him. If we were say in Brighton/Ipswichs position currently, Id still be happy. What he has done is what I thought we could IF we kept him. I said this: I said stay. Why? Changing managers = 04-08 era..10/11-11/12. Keeping managers more than 1 full season = O Neil - 1996-2000, Adams - 2001-2004, Pearson 2008-2010. Notice everytime we stick with a manager we do well? Stability is key. Go back to Little even, brilliant and consistent, He leaves, we have 1-2 years of transition and struggle before O neil comes. O Neil goes..year or 2 of transition..Adams comes, we keep him after relegation, we go up. He leaves, 4 years of absolute sh*te. Pearson comes in - Promotion/Playoffs. He leaves, 2 years of transition again. First full season, playoffs again. so IMO, just judging by 'form': If he leaves: 2 years of transition or maybe a 4 year dark era?, might as well not watch in 13/14 and 14/15 and we might have a chance by 2016. If he stays: Build on what we have and Id fancy our chances next season. Quite an obvious choice really. Depending how were doing up by 10-15 games next year. If we are very poor, then Ill change my mind maybe..For now it would be a discusting decision to get rid of him. Think Chinese, Think be careful what you wish for. After what hes done for our club, it would of been ridiculous to get rid after 1 poor run. The point is, everyone who wanted him gone is just a silly knee jerker who just looks panics when not everything is perfect. Like I said be careful what you wish for, if he'd gone the new manager rips the squad apart, barely any of our strong 11 could be here now, with new losers here instead and a 15th place standing with no hope like a Birmingham etc. Say what you think about 'how hes changed' or all this rubbish, end of the day he hasnt changed all that much I dont think, hes always been a good manager but not everyone is perfect and he made a few mistakes. I remember about mid way into our 09/10 season, a few critisised him. We had just whacked league 1, then started solidly..we had a little blip(think we lost maybe 2 games...Bristol City home 1-3)..people were saying how he might not be the man and all this rubbish. I said at the time 'mental, hes the best manager weve had for years and think he will be a legend for our club. he will be the man to get us to the Premier League and potentially better than O Neil'. Everyone at the time laughed of course and said 'what you been smoking?' 'never become a legend', 'average championship manager at best' blah blah. Funny how things turns out.

You can't knock him for anything this season- results, style, player recruitment, selection, improvement in certain players. I admire you really sticking by him during that run, I lost faith after Barnsley because it was so bad but that appears to have been the tipping point. Someone mentioned it before, but does anyone think the Barnsley loss was the equivalent of 'that' Sheff Utd loss under O'Neill in a way? It only really got better after then, taking out 'Deeney-gate'. Would've been even weirder had we gone up though as we'd have come up against the exact same side in the play-off final. Manwell Pablo Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 Unfortunately now NP is doing fantastically well / great / spectacularly, and playing football that's not only a joy and pleasure to watch but is winning football too ..... NP's lovers during his poor run last season are absolutely right, no grey area, just plain black and white. Anyone that criticised him is now wrong, fall outs didn't happen, and he never did anything wrong. The real world is a little less simple than the foxes talk version. I credit NP with more intelligence and aptitude than his biggest fans from last season it seems ..... He learnt from his mistakes and bettered himself as a manager. Fair play to him for that, that's the hardest thing of all to do. The people gloating in this thread don't credit him with that achievement ..... instead they insist that it was always the case. Where did they finish then?? You're another one, seriously need to have a word with yourself. To be fair they all seem to use this place as somewhere to just purely vent frustration, and when there is no frustration to vent they have no reason to post. Which would be fine, but their frustration makes no sense lacks any long term objectivity or planning, is often completely over the top and not based in fact and in some cases is Bile filled and seems to attack Pearson the man as well as Pearson the manager and it's just ridiculous to read. EDIT: And - even worse, they refuse to acknowledge that had they got their way, we'd probably not be top now.

Parafox Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 When I criticised NP last season it was out of frustration as, although in the play-offs, we weren't playing with conviction, there were some very dubious substutions and unnaceptable games where we didn't seem to know what we were doing. This season's turnround is fantastic and I will freely admit I was wrong, in hindsight, to suggest NP should be replaced. I just hope that if/when we get promoted that we don't struggle to get points. That could lead to his downfall and all the nay-sayers will re-appear.

Besides, I do reflect quite a lot before posting, particularly given the fact that I'm doing it in a foreign language. EDIT: Sorry, I forgot BNET in that list.
fuchsntf Posted 5 February 2014 Posted 5 February 2014 I just hope, that NP is given some rope, when he gets us promoted. Expectancies not to run over the top, even if we stay in the premiership. If we at this stage next year are in the bottom part of the division, we still back and keep NP.If we want to see any type of success at city we need a manager who can give us the next 3-5 years. For me success would be staying + playing in the Premiership, with a descent brand of football, anything else that comes along is gravy.One would also hope also that our ownership management Status stays stable and ambitious (within reason), and not be fly by nights.
