Alf Bentley Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 Does anyone have an opinion as to whether Wasyl could play a Makelele role, as central defensive midfielder, for LCFC in the Premier League, IF we go up? I reckon we'd have to play 3 central midfielders. Drinkwater and James are up to it (probably King, too, at least as a squad player). However, as we'd be under the cosh more and less able to dominate games against superior opposition, I do think we'd struggle playing 2 central midfielders and 2 wide-ish players. I also wonder whether we yet have a Premier League centre-back combination. At that level, if you played either Wasyl or Wes, you'd want a very mobile, intelligent centre-back partner. Liam Moore might be that man in due course, but he's still very inexperienced. So, how about Wasyl as a central defensive midfielder? He's physically strong, decent in the air, reads the game very well, tackles well - and his distribution is absolutely outstanding for a centre back. His big downside (apart from the odd rash tackle) is his lack of pace - not ultra-slow, but certainly slow by Premier League standards. He also seems to be a strong personality - useful if times get harder than the younger lads are used to. Today he was ordering other players about - and they moved! Can anyone see Wasyl playing a Makele role in the PL next season or am I talking out of my arse?!
Unabomber Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 This would be a terrible idea and i'm genuinely sorry for breaking it to you.
Leicester Lass Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 Can't see it myself. You assume he'll sign a new contract with us too, no guarantee of that.
Lionator Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 We should sign Gareth Barry and give Drinkwater and James free reign in front of him. We wouldn't need to make any other signings then.
Leicesterpool Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 We could give it a try but i think it would be best to sign an experienced defensive midfield someone like a Gareth Barry or a Scott Parker.
Vlad the Fox Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 If Pearson wants a player for that position he should go out and find one rather than try and convert other players to play out of position. For me Was is a central defender, he looks like a central defender and plays like a central defender. A good one at that.
LeicesterBran Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 No. He'd could be decent for us in the Prem, but he could be a liabillity if he played as a DM for us.
Bert Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 Why? Please explain...We've got our central midfielders and possibly may strengthen there. The points you make are good, and he does have the attributes but could he do it for 90 minutes week in week out? Personally, I just don't think he could. You can tell that he is a centre back and nothing else.
65RosesFox Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 We should sign Gareth Barry and give Drinkwater and James free reign in front of him. We wouldn't need to make any other signings then. I'd be bitterly disappointed if we only made one signing this summer. Our squad is fantastic this season but we need at least 3 new faces.
fuchsntf Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 Yes. Yes in fact yes again, and one for the road Yyyeeesss Too many of you underrating him. Load of rubbish with discussion on pace. Vidic , Cahill, Terry, and a few more in the top teams who are not quick. Question his strength and positioning sense ,reading of,passing, and taking a ball while under pressure. I wont contradict many of you cos Ive seen him only twice live, the rest on TV. Just dont over analyse too early and on points that other good players also didnt have. Sit back now and enjoy and let him enjoy his time at KP, because it could be all academic at the end of season.
Danno Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 No not really. Much better options out there. I'd be very worried with him in midfield.
Stadt Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 His distribution is certainly better than Bamba's, it'd be worth a try in the dead rubber games to see how he gets on but as others have said, if Nigey wants a defensive midfielder he will get one.

So to middfield defence, like a barry or parker, or the old king from old spurs.....No, but he has other strengths
kingfox Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 No. But he deserves a new contract, think he can play a few games in the Prem. But we'd need to get in Premier League experience in central defence and central midfield.
cc_star Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 No, not in a million years. He's a CB & looks good, adding more than the previously excellent Moore to our game too
suffolk fox Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 No. But he deserves a new contract, think he can play a few games in the Prem. Interesting..........a proven Polish International with more than sixty caps for his country, but not good enough for the Premiership? You are plainly wrong.
Stadt Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 Nobody has actually suggested why he couldn't play there other than that there are better and other options available which I agree with. I think he'd be alright as an impromptu DM, but I think he'd drop too deep and struggle to get up and down.
ronnup Posted 15 March 2014 Posted 15 March 2014 No. He's not got the composure or the deftness of touch to create space. He's a centre back. A bloody good one.
