Finnegan Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 I see and value your point but the players at my disposal are extremely limited in their quality and I have no means to replace them. It takes better attributes to be a successful ball winning midfielder than an anchor, frankly. Anchors require probably the lowest attribute spread of any position other than a centre half. Okay positioning and tackling with a bit of passing. It's mostly mental stats. If they have the attributes to be a ball winner then they'll also have the attributes to go box to box. That leaves you needing a DLP, which is basically whichever one has the highest vision. Don't view the DLP as some kind of Andrea Pirlo, he's a hard working and fairly structured holding midfielder that will largely keep shape and keep the ball moving. Think Matty James for us.
Stadt Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 In defence you usually want one LB/RB on attack and the other on support to add more variety to your attack and make you less one dimensional. If you do that you should have opposite duties to the fullbacks on the wingers again to give the opposition more to think about. Your central midfield usually should have a runner, a defender and a creator but if you can get your roles allocation right then you can get more creative with your midfield. It's absolutely necessary to have one holding midfielder. Preferably on a defend duty. Upfront you want to avoid you striker(a) getting isolated so support and good movement is necessary.
Ozwin Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 WB - CB - CB - WB----------AM----------------AP-----AP------IF-------------------IF-----------F9---------- WB with defend mentality, one IF with attack mentality, one with support (varies on which player has better work rate). Boom. gg FM.
Darkon84 Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 Got the handheld version this morning on Android and getting pretty used to it now. It's early December and I'm 6th in the Prem with Leicester, and Vardy is on 15 goals in the league alone! The man is unstoppable! I've only made 1 permanent signing, and 3 loans, though 1 only comes off of the bench if I'm changing formation. Kasper De Laet Moore Morgan Willems (loan) Cambiasso Baumgartlinger (£3.1 mill) Can (loan) Knockaert Mahrez Vardy Bench: Hamer Simpson Wasilewski Drinkwater Albrighton Otavio (loan) Ulloa
LCFC FOX Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 I play GK CWB (A) CB (D) CB (D) FB (S) AM (D) BTB (S) W (A) AP (A) W (A) P (A) Working wonders. I started in conference and won the league. Lost in the play off final second season in league 2 and now top of the league in January 3rd season. Only bad thing is I have 2 good players in each position. I must have about 5 players unhappy they're not playing but they're good. 3 of them contract are running out too but they won't sign a new deal. Which is a shame because no one is willing to buy them either!

GLC Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 Who are your best players? Lucas Romero, Carlos Fierro and Viktor Fischer
Stadt Posted 16 December 2014 Posted 16 December 2014 Lucas Romero, Carlos Fierro and Viktor Fischer I meant archerm specifically but
Vardinhio Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 Who are your best players? Roy Carroll in goals, Left back Blair Adams, versatile midfielder Tom Lawrence on loan from LCFC and Sean Batt striker on loan from orient. I have a very weak centre back pairing of Hayden Mullins and Haydn Hollis.
Dan Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 This is absolutely ridiculous now I'm beating everyone away, even Man City (where I was 3 up at one point) yet am still yet to win at home, despite playing Watford, Wigan and Palace. What the ****? I also have a weird temptation to start with a La Liga minnow like Levante, Cordoba or Almeria.
Vardinhio Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 something isn't right here. scored 62 and conceeded 74 in 32 games...
Vardinhio Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 Sacked with a few games of season left in 20th spot, outside the relegation zone by one place and one point. Only won 4 in the last 27, somehow after 41 games I'd scored 76 goals and conceeded 96....... I must be seriously doing something wrong, all my games are goalfests. I've tried some of the formations noted above but no luck. Also what level manager do you guys start yourselves at? I just go for the recomended to suit the team I pick.
Darkon84 Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 In to March now: 29 Games played, 7th in the league, 45 points, Only 26 conceded (3rd best in the league), Only scored 36 though (the power of 1-0s!), Vardy on 25 goals and only behind Diego Costa (28), De Laet playing out of his skin at LB after WIllems' loan expired, Odegaard signed for £2.5million in Janurary who is playing a bit part at AM or RM. Am I really lucky here, or is this a lot easier than last years?
Fox92 Posted 17 December 2014 Posted 17 December 2014 Only just started playing today, having got the game on the release day, due to my work but now I've finished for a week or so I started as Leicester today. Pretty difficult, only managed to win one league game (out of 4) and that was at home to Swansea. Drew away at Burnley and got hammered at both Everton and Chelsea. Even Port Vale knocked me out of the league cup!

Brainy Posted 18 December 2014 Posted 18 December 2014 Are there any new European Leagues on this or just the same as 2014? Need another Sparta Prague style legacy save in my life

I think I'll start up a league with a Championship side and see how I get on.
Finnegan Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 Are there any new European Leagues on this or just the same as 2014? Need another Sparta Prague style legacy save in my life Check out sortitoutsi, I'm sure I saw an enormous database file with every league playable. Might have imagined it.
Jordan Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 I'm too tired to go in to detail but three ball winning midfielders, even with one of them on support, is dumb. You need a variety of roles. The trick to a stable defence isn't a whole bunch of defensive players, it's a balanced team. If you can't retain and use the ball when you win it, it'll keep coming back to you. Also, ball winners inherently drift from position to chase the ball. Try an anchor on defend, a deep lying playmaker and a roaming playmaker or box to box midfielder. Mix it up so you have a variety of roles. You don't need to replace them, you need to change their roles/duties. 3 ball winning midfielders is pretty mental, teams will pretty much walk straight through you because these 3 will chase the ball rather provide a solid base. You need a variety of defend, support and attack duties throughout your shape to provide defensive stability and also to provide movement through the lines in attack. I haven't checked the thread or played in a little while, but I came across this today before restarting my Cowdenbeath save as I'm home sick with the flu. I've reviewed my midfield, and I was making some of the same mistakes you pointed out (though I never played more than one BBM and one BWM at a time). I feel kind of silly, because having a variety of roles is common sense, but I hadn't integrated multiple roles since evolving from a defensive, physical, hoofball to a more adventurous system I've eschewed BWMs altogether. I feel like I have players with the attributes for it, but it's still hard to keep them in position. I'm using an anchor man when I use a DM, and use a DLP defend/support and an AP attack/support as my two CMs in my tactics. I've since snapped an 11-game winless run and have gone WWWWX since (including a win over Rangers, and a draw at Hearts). We see so much more of the ball now, and not only that, I've got playmakers in position to make killer passes now. Although the advice wasn't meant for me, thank you, fellas. Edit: and I won Scottish Championship Manager of the Month, too
DB11 Posted 19 December 2014 Posted 19 December 2014 Won the Prem, Euro Cup and FA Cup in my first season back in the Prem! Improved the team too so hopefully I can do well in the Champions League next year
Dan Posted 20 December 2014 Posted 20 December 2014 I'm going to go with this... GK (D) CD (D) - LD (D) - CD (D) CWB (S) ---------------------- CWB (S) RPM (S) - BWM (D) - AP (A) CF (S) - P (A) I'm Inter. Want to make them back into the giants they used to be.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 December 2014 Posted 20 December 2014 I have a very weak centre back pairing of Hayden Mullins and Haydn Hollis. Hayden is a weak name, not surprised you're shipping
