Happy Fox Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 I would never thought that Hull City could have Huddlestone 5m purchase, and Livermore (loan) playing for them. So it isn't conceivable that we couldn't attract Barry, yes it isn't likely but now we are a prem team anything is possible!
conLAD logan Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 If we get Barry and a decent striker like ba, we'll have done more than enough to stay up IMO
Simonb Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Ba on loan paying 50% of hus wages maybe. . Nothing else
Fox92 Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 By most teams, do you mean, Hull City, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, West Brom, Swansea and the like where Barry would be regular first team, or do you mean Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, where he wouldn't. Now tell me again exactly why you are so certain he wouldn't come to Leicester if we paid him enough. No. I mean teams like Everton, they could easily want him back, teams that are bigger than us and will finish higher than us. I'm not certain of anything. Where did I say I was certain of anything, anyway? I bet he's on about £100,000 a week and we won't pay that. It's like the whole "we should go for Lescott", keep it realistic.
Fox Ulike Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 It would be a bizarre move to pay a player £65k a week who plays exactly the same position as Matty James. Next season Everton will be offering us £5m (PLUS Gareth Barry as a freebie)to sign Matty James.

Club on the up.. first team football.. likely have enough money... teams like everton soton Newcastle etc will strengthen with better midfielders in the summer so he wont start there (probably) and all the teams below that we can compete with.. plus.. does he still live in the midlands? Easy commute to end his career like kev phillips? Might be wrong... I reckon he'll go back everton tho and warm the bench

I wudnt want to go over 40k if we got him.. on a two year contract thats 4m so not a terrible investment
MC Prussian Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 How about getting him on loan? I suppose he'll sign a new deal with Everton and not be an integral part of their regular starting eleven. Just as with Upson and our defenders, our young and talented midfield could profit from Barry's experience a lot.
inckley fox Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Hmmm not quite. Did we actually sign any of these faces in the summer of 2003? Dublin and Keown were after relegation, Rogers (is that who it is?) was back in 2002, and he was only 24, Elliott and Walker were signed years earlier. And Walker was decent that season. Whatever, we were bound by immense financial constraints back then and literally didn't part with a penny in fees. Some of the signings looked longer term when we bought them and could have turned out okay - Thatcher, Gillespie among them - but the squad consisted of too many players in it for 'one last stab'. So long as we don't bring in too many more players from that category - we have experience in Wasilewski, Taylor-Fletcher, Upson, Nugent, Konchesky among others - we should attain a decent balance. I'm still conscious that lots of clubs in the lower reaches of the PL make the mistake of signing what they perceive to be proven, experienced lower-end PL players, but are in actual fact proven PL failures and less well-equipped for the top tier of football than many in the upper reaches of the Championship (it's scary to see how many of these PL pedigree players struggle upon relegation). Hopefully we won't go down that route.
Simonb Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Why would they sign him up to loan him out at that age? Would be pointless surely thats what you do when you buy a young player normally
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 I'd love to see Gareth Barry here. He's older but still fit as fook. Class footballer. Wages though? Is that Andy King??!
Jam Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Sign him up, quality premiership experience in the middle of the park. Perfect.
katieakita Posted 26 May 2014 Posted 26 May 2014 Lucky it is a problem for Nigel and not us. We may play a centre 2 or three Drinky and James i think will be ok not so sure about King or Hammond so if we boost the midfield do we go for someone young or unknown or do we go for an experienced older head, Parker,Sidwell,Barry not sure Parker and Sidwell are better than we have and would want good money so do you bring in an untried younger player or go for tried and tested. Whatever we do i have great faith in Nigel and his team,

Next season Everton will be offering us £5m (PLUS Gareth Barry as a freebie)to sign Matty James. No offence, but that is rubbish. Gareth Barry is still probably the one of best DM's in the PL. It is well noted and reported that he was key in getting Everton to be a top 6 team last season. We need additional quality to add to the squad to not only survive but to push for at least mid table safety, before making a run towards the top. If Steve Gerard (35) and Frank Lampard (35) are still considered worthy of spots in top 3 teams then Barry (33) is worthy of playing for us and will add, if he comes enormously to the team in many ways other than on the park. Too much is made of players in their 30's as to old. This is only an issue for young boys and game players. I really hope this is true and the prospect of playing for midlands team and a 2 year contract will make him come to us.

Hack Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 Just one point. Gerrard isn't even 34 yet, let alone 35. Your right just turned 33 same as Barry. Point still valid that no one would question acquiring Gerard but some here think it is to old. Gareth Barry, has not and does not need young man speed to do the job he does on the pitch. Would be a tremendous signing if true.
RizLCFC Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 From the Merc: There were also reports yesterday that City had approached free agent Gareth Barry after the England international was released by Manchester City, with Everton yet to turn his loan stay into a permanent one. However, the Mercury understands there is no interest from City. The 33-year-old's wage demands would be far higher than the £30,000-a-week ceiling Leicester have been widely reported as having.

LeicesterBran Posted 27 May 2014 Posted 27 May 2014 He was class for Everton last season and was integral to their fifth place finish. The thought of Barry and Drinkwater in midfield is pretty good. But, I doubt we'll sign him.
