This wage cap of 30k can't be realistic, surely? Not seen an official source for it anywhere, and with the sheer quantity of players we're being linked with who would command at least 40k+ (including our own kasper) then I just a cant see it being true.

Would love this transfer to happen. Fantastic player and would work wonders as part of a midfield trio with James and DD, as well as helping their development. An all-English midfield where they could all potentially have full England caps is something unthinkable at Leicester!

You never will IMO.

I don't see our owners as the sort to blurt out personal finance details.

Thats why I always think it's bollox when supposed ITK and others claim how much a player is on.

But what is worth?

If we paid him £100k a week for a year, that's £5.2 million, would you be happy if we signed someone for £4m and paid him £30k a week?

If NP wants him we can afford him, whether we should or not, I'll leave to NP, breaking the wage structure can be got around by paying him a massive signing on fee, but putting him on the same wage as everyone else.

It depends who we sign for that amount of money. Barry will have no sell-on value and if he gets a massive signing on fee to get around the wage structure, you've effectively severely reduced the transfer budget. Not to mention that he could leave after one season (which he's maybe received 3 seasons pay for). I'd much rather we pay £4m and 30k a week for a player in his prime.

How is it misleading that is what Cardiff are claiming? the money for playing for the premiership is obscene proper telephone numbers is it not something like a minimum £60 million, 25 man squad each on 40k a week is 52 million, and plenty of our squad wont be on anywhere near that, i am not saying we will get Barry or we will pay 100k a week to a player but the reality is there is huge amounts of money involved.

Because firstly it's closer to £8.5m, secondly it takes into account all the expenses connected with his transfer (fees, wages and agents) most of which you wouldn't take into account when evaluating loss/profit on player transfers. If you did, most high-profile transfers would come up as losses.

The money is obscene yes, but assume we get £60mil extra, does a player like Barry really warrant anything in the region of £100k/week (or £5.2m/year excluding all non-wage costs, in other words nearly 10% of the added income)? It's not like he wins games on his own anymore...

Barry seems to have been a bit of a Nicky Butt player never seems to do great things but steady and really popular withteam mates and managers he has had a bloody good career and it says something that after becoming surplus at Man City he went off and put in a really good season at Everton. Being a free agent you would think he is looking at all his options. He is coming towards the end of his playing career he may have another 2/3/4 years left at top level. Perhaps he fancies a move to the midlands Villa look in turmoil and WBA and Stoke are teams we must be aiming to better next season. Doesn't come across as a big time Charlie so perhaps it is not just about the money for him as you would have hoped he has earned enough already to live very comfortably. Also it is what you class as a sensible wage perhaps linked to a bonus scheme, the difference last season between a cardiff style relagation season and a Palace/Stoke season was about £15 million and i thought there was more money about this coming season.

The premiership has evolved since we were last in it and is far more global, i will leave it for those more in the know than me but think premier football is very lucrative in Asia for King Power, if a good season for the City brings in tens of millions of pounds for the owners marque signings suddenly don't become so unrealistic.

I don't think our owners would be afraid of bringing in the likes of Barry or other marquee types.  I think a combination of the manager getting the player he wants, the prospect of needed the right type of player to help survive the PL and name players to drive marketing and interest in LCFC, which i am sure is an important factor in bringing high profile players into teams.  You want the media excited about your team and players and being in the news is good for King Power.

So I do think we will be bringing in players that are news worthy and meets the managers criteria.

Pipe dream of the highest order. Exactly what we'd need, but will goto a team that finished in the top half last season.

Have to agree unfortunately. Drinkwater and James would thrive if we signed Barry

Definitely. Someone like Barry is the missing link to making our midfield a top half Premier League one.

I honestly reckon we will get him, he has a home in the Midlands area if I am not mistaken.

At West Ham he wouldn't get many opportunities.

So it could be us!!!!, if it is out of West Ham and City.
