Newly promoted Leicester City are set to snap up England midfielder Gareth Barry on a free transfer, according to the The Sun.

Barry was mightily impressive on loan at Everton last season but a permanent switch to Goodison Park has been delayed due to differences in opinion on the contract offer.

West Ham made a move for the former Manchester City star who is now of contract at the Etihad and is one of the most sought after free transfers in Europe. The Hammers it seems have been beaten to the signature by ambitious Leicester who have promised fans that they are not just in the big time to battle at the wrong end of the table.

In fact – the owners have declared that Europe is a possibility within the next four years and that they are not afraid to put their hand in their pockets to achieve that.

Barry would be a superb signing for the Foxes as they look to strengthen, but Everton are not going to lie down and take this – with boss Roberto Martinez wanting to sort Barry’s future before the World Cup.

:o  :D  :trumpet:

Barry would be an immense signing for us. Him and a top quality striker like Cardozo and I reckon we could comfortably finish 8th-12th. Those two and a full-back and I reckon that'd be more than enough until January.

I'm starting to think this could happen....  Money-wise we can compete with all of the clubs outside of the big 6 given the money about to roll in and the relatively low wage bill we have at present.  A £50k+ 2 year contract might sound a lot but he is the sort of signing that lifts a whole squad.

As others have said if he wants to return to the Midlands we are his best bet.

Him and Thorgan Hazard on loan please  (just wishful thinking)

Not really sure bout this one..Cardozo would be my preference...but Que Serra Serra.....

But they play in two totally different positions? To be fair I don't think we were ever in for Cardozo. That was one of the many agent rumours.

Barry is a little more likely as it's reported he wants to come back to the midlands.

By the way, this would be a stunning signing.

Maybe I am putting 2 and 2 together and making 5 but does anyone remember Albrighton's comments post signing for us he said:

I’ve spoken to the manager and I know he has big plans, so I just can’t wait to get started and be involved.

Could that be with regards to the transfer market? so certainly Barry would be one of them!

Think your putting 2 and 2 together and coming out with 4,645.

Very unlikly he'll drop transfer information at new players feet to get them to sign a contract here.

Thats just a quote straight out of the "new signing" handbook.

50k ain't a lot considering we're not paying a fee for him. That would mean we're paying out £5.2 million. Alternatively paying him the reported 65k West Ham were offering him, we would pay out £6.76 million. Either way it's less than just the asking price of Leeds and Brighton for McCormack and Ulloa, nevermind wages, and will be infinitely more important than he other two.

Would be a real coup for us. Fantastic player and the experience he could lend to James, Drinkwater and King would be invaluable. He's a fantastic short term solution to the CDM problem even if we only get a year or so out of him.

I don't understand, if West Ham and Everton want him and will pay him more why would he come to is?

It would be an incredible signing if it did happen though.

Why on earth would he come here?

The opportunity to continue playing european football at Everton is a huge pull, at his 'age' would he want to throw that away on the chance that (at best) in two years he might get another shot at europe? Being brutally realistic, if you sign for us you are signing up for a potential relegation slog and all that entails.

He wants to go back to the Midlands.

If Everton are offering him a one year deal on a smaller wage than us offering him a three year deal "at his age" then he's straight out the lloyd dyer handbook on his way here.

It totally depends on what Everton are offering him, he won't want a one year deal. If we offered him a two year deal with the possibility of a coaching role at the end then it could be an offer he can't refuse.

This would be an immense signing. As mentioned his experience will really help our young midfielders step up a level.

But also it would be a massive statement of intent. He could be the "star" player that makes other bigger names that we believe are out of our league take note of us. (Of course they would have to fit into the squad, I wouldn't want a qpr situation) usually getting that first great player is the hardest .

Why post it then !?

I'm fairly sure my previous post of the link is more relevant and useful than you questioning why I posted it! Im sure someone will find it useful as its pretty relevant...
