lavrentis Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27760689 Good idea or not?
Jon the Hat Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Presumably they are effective, there is demand for their installation from residents, and this demand comes from being uncomfortable or intimidated by the presence of homeless people outisde their home. I can imagine wanting them to sleep elsewhere. Personally I would want to know that there was provision somewhere.
Nick Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27760689 Good idea or not? Well it may deter rough sleepers but the idea won't be as popular when a child fall over and impales their head in one.
Guest MattP Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Excellent idea, I would make these avaliable to everyone who lives in a area where they have these sort of people hanging around causing a nuisance.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 It's not to deter tramps, it's to keep them slightly above ground level so that their urine and other fluids can drain away underneath them while they sleep
David Guiza Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Disagree personally. I see the point of protecting the vulnerable from intimidation etc, but is there no better way? I'm sure the homeless didn't feel alienated and rejected enough before this venture.

Harry - LCFC Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 They've stuck them under bridges though. Saw a photo of them on park benches too (they come up electronically at night) although I doubt that's widespread. Don't mind deterring them from residential areas but some of the places they're used just seems like an attempt to kick 'em when they're down. Out of spite rather than genuine need.
Bobby Hundreds Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Nothing a couple of layers of card won't get around.
DennisNedry Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Good idea, but I'm amazed that they are permitted in this PC health and safety world!
Alf Bentley Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Excellent idea, I would make these avaliable to everyone who lives in a area where they have these sort of people hanging around causing a nuisance. It's all a bit base-mechanical, though, isn't it? You'd think that the tools for social apartheid would be a bit more high-tech these days. Voice recognition software could be deployed. So, if someone came up my street going "Yah! Yah! Incentives for business... Chavs, Romanians...Flexible Pay....White Dee...Underclass...We're all in this together! Yah!", the software would recognise the accent and/or key words, triggering an ejector panel in the pavement, which would fire the fvckers back off to a privet hedge in suburbia or a landed estate in the shires where they could "Yah! Yah!" till the cows came home. Some might consider that a little divisive. So, instead, maybe a contact-free scanner implanted in the wall could scan the microchips of bank cards in people's wallets, a secure online consultation of bank records could take place - and if they had a lot of money, then an automated transfer could be made to the account of a local homeless charity. Britain could be at the forefront of a new cutting-edge industry, exporting automated wealth redistribution and inclusiveness to the world. What do you reckon, Matt?
MooseBreath Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Lost your job. Relationship breakdown. Sacrificed a goat had too many onions. So many many things what can make one seek solace in the pavement. Metal spikes no good for sleeping but might be good receivers for down and out 2 (better, stronger, better) on wacky backyard radio?
Lamby Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 How about metal spikes to the face? Most are just creepy alcoholics, if they are truly homeless then how could they afford a Dog?

David Guiza Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 How about metal spikes to the face? Most are just creepy alcoholics, if they are truly homeless then how could they afford a Dog? And you know this, how? Do a little bit of research in future perhaps.
Mike Oxlong Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 If the aim is to keep tramps like Miley and Britney off the streets then I am willing to provide an alternative solution.
howlinmadmurfdoc Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 How about metal spikes to the face? Most are just creepy alcoholics, if they are truly homeless then how could they afford a Dog? Bellend.
Bayfox Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Bellend. I guess. Lambys bellend installed in london streets to keep homeless of streets.
SemperEadem Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Heartbreaking. Used to work for a young peoples homeless charity and seeing these makes my blood boil. Where is the heart in people?!
Alf Bentley Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 If the aim is to keep tramps like Miley and Britney off the streets then I am willing to provide an alternative solution. Are you offering Welfare to Twerk for Miley and Care in the Community for Britney? It's good to witness such selflessness.
Alf Bentley Posted 9 June 2014 Posted 9 June 2014 Lamby is appearing on Question Time next week. "Tonight, David, I'm going to be Joey Barton...."
