AKCJ Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Quite surprised to see so many people thinking Portugal would win.
Leicesterpool Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Quite surprised to see so many people thinking Portugal would win. I wasn't sure if they were going to win but expected to see a much tighter affair, like in the Spain and Netherlands game and how did that finish up...
MC Prussian Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Quite surprised to see so many people thinking Portugal would win. If... ... it hadn't been for that stupendous penalty. ... it hadn't been for that red card. ... it hadn't been for those two injured players.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Quarter Finals for Germany I think. They've a punishing fixture list heat wise and I think the burn out will show against a quality side. Group is wrapped up now though and they aren't going to have a problem with any team in Group H should be too strong for even a decent Belgium side I'd imagine.
Manwell Pablo Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Don't know why everyone was so excited by Ronaldo, really, this was all extremely predictable. His team aren't on top so he's anonymous and lazy, surprise!! No doubt he's been the best in the world this year for Real and has shone for club but it's different doing it for the best club in the world against Getafe and Rayo and bearing Germany single handed with an average Portugal side. He's never, ever showed the character to do it before, why did people think he would now? In other words, Horse Head is an idiot. To be fair he dug them out of some sorry situations in qualifying, and beat Sweden by himself over two legs. Expecting him to do that to Germany in 31 degree heat was probably a bit on the optimistic side though. And to be fair the contentious decisions rightly or wrongly all went the Germans way and fcking Nani and Montinho both had shockers.

And to be fair the contentious decisions rightly or wrongly all went the Germans way and fcking Nani and Montinho both had shockers. But Sweden aren't as good as Portugal. I'm not saying he never delivers for his country, I'm saying he isn't going to single handedly beat a side much better than his own and a large part of that is that he drifts out of the game and lacks character.
Finnegan Posted 16 June 2014 Posted 16 June 2014 Ronaldo and Khedira are obviously tired of his shit. what is that in reaction to? Pepe?
Dan Posted 17 June 2014 Posted 17 June 2014 I think that Germany team looks sensational, if the front four of Gotze, Kroos, Ozil & Muller are firing and start linking up well, then this could be a rout. That Portugal side is nothing special, they will rely too heavily on Ronaldo, can see them playing a lot of long ball especially with Almeida up top, they will more than likely play off him. Moutinho is a good player, but doubt he will get the upper hand over Lahm & Khedira. Still going for 2-2 though, can see Ronaldo scoring a double. This is hilarious. You've literally summed up what actually happened pre-match and then you've gone and predicted 2-2 lol
Jordan Posted 17 June 2014 Posted 17 June 2014 But Sweden aren't as good as Portugal. Ronaldo is clearly injured and wouldn't even have a sniff of the pitch if he were playing for Madrid against the likes of Getafe.

He could have been fully fit and have been exactly the same, we've seen it endless times before when his side aren't on top.
wight88 Posted 17 June 2014 Posted 17 June 2014 Wasn't Muller the baddie instructor in Karate Kid? Should be made of sterner stuff surely.
StanSP Posted 17 June 2014 Author Posted 17 June 2014 This was probably the only time I've seen a one-man wall get hit from a free-kick from that distance. And this was fairly amusing:
kingfox Posted 17 June 2014 Posted 17 June 2014 This is hilarious. You've literally summed up what actually happened pre-match and then you've gone and predicted 2-2 lol My psychic abilities were half on point, so give me some credit. However I didn't predict a red card, which of course changed the manner of the game, I thought Ronaldo would just whack in a couple of 30 yarders

However I didn't predict a red card, which of course changed the manner of the game, I thought Ronaldo would just whack in a couple of 30 yarders So did I but that's only because he's one of these players who always scores when I doubt him. I'm sorry but I don't get the hype around him at times. Terrific athlete with a wide variety of goals, but forget him having more to his game than Messi - I'm not sure he's got more to his game than Suarez.
Stadt Posted 17 June 2014 Posted 17 June 2014 If Ronaldo wasn't so self indulgent he'd be definitely be the best player in the world, I still think he is because of how his pace, strength, aerial ability, his weak foot and his shooting. Granted Messi is a better passer and dribbler but Ronaldo is still very good at both.
Nick Posted 17 June 2014 Posted 17 June 2014 If... ... it hadn't been for that stupendous penalty. ... it hadn't been for that red card. ... it hadn't been for those two injured players. They may have only lost by 3 goals.

You think he would be where he is without that competitiveness? Without the drive to be the absolute best he can be? He has pace, strength, aerial ability and all the rest because of his personality, not at the detriment of it.

Yeah I agree (I don't think I've ever disagreed with you!),I meant his selfishness - in my opinion I think he plays for himself rather than his team sometimes but he's still sensational and still the best.

Portugal's problem isn't that Ronaldo is selfish though, he has to be to a degree as the rest of the team is very average, it's that they rely on him way to much. I spotted countless incidents yesterday where they passed or tried to pass to him when they were in much better positions.
