Luis Suarez Bites Chiellini

Serious overreaction here people, first thing to point out is that typically bans received for international games do not affect the domestic season, I guess FIFA probably have the power to make an exception, if it is treated the same as the Ivanovic bite, the fact he has bitten other players is irrelevant as it happened in a different competition means it is irrelevant when handing out a punishment.

As for the bite itself, I agree with Bonedog, in terms actual harm it is nothing compared to some of the tackles that go flying in on a regular basis, Shearer on Lennon is another, I would rather have someone bite my shoulder than kick me in the head or elbow me in the face or fly into me studs up, I would probably prefer it to being spat on.

We've sung the names of convicted criminals and wife beaters on our own terraces so let's just have a bit of context here.

Suarez should be banned for the rest of the World Cup simple, job done, pretty severe punishment if you ask me.

As for bringing up the Ghana incident again, would anyone seriously not love to see an England player do that? Have that desire and will to do anything for our country to sacrifice themselves to see us win? I would.

Sorry CPF, agree with the rest of what you've said here but not the highlighted stuff.

Winning is really, really important - but if I saw an England player deliberately cheat in that way to win us a game it would leave a bad taste in my mouth, regardless of the importance of the game.

I've always thought that the rules should be changed for deliberate handballs on the line in any case - if it was certain to be a goal before the deliberate cheating then a goal should be what is awarded, ala a penalty try in rugby - but that's a debate for another thread.

The only part of this I don't agree with is just banning him for this World Cup. What if Uruguay go out next round? It's no real punishment. If possible fifa need to give him a lengthy international ban at the very least.

I don't see it as cheating, if it hadn't been seen then it was cheating, but he knew exactly what he was doing, exactly what the consequences were and didn't care as winning for his country was more important, he was willing to take that chance to do everything he could to win.

Would you call him a cheat if Ghana had scores the penalty?

I do agree in circumstances like that the ref should award a goal, but I'm not going to criticise a player for taking advantage of a rule to see his team win. I would love to see an England player show half the passion and desire Suarez does when playing for Uruguay, just without biting people.

I meant any ban should ensure that he doesn't play in this World Cup, so at least 4 matches, anything more than that is largely irrelevant to me.

No, I wouldn't like to see an England player cheat like that, and I would hope neither would any other proper football fan.

As for the bite it's indefensible and talk of a two year ban is perfectly reasonable.

There's something in that. It's the rule that's at fault, not Suarez. Like you said, he knew exactly what he was doing and what the consequences would be. That being said, he deliberately broke a rule to try to gain an advantage for his team (and he succeeded) which reads as cheating to me, seen or unseen.

It's the makeup of that rule that makes deliberately stopping a goal possibly advantageous to the team doing it, so the rule needs to be changed so it can't happen anymore.

Where's your Candreva post, I wonder? lol

Seeing as you'll likely be sat here all day, go back and find it. That's your test for the day. Report back later, I'm off to work. Have a good one.

That won't happen. Because it doesn't exist.

Besides, Colin. If you need a dog - buy one. Seeing that you've made some money with your QPR bet, after all.  lol

He bit somebody.

On a football pitch (FIFA's jurisdiction).

For a THIRD time.

If I killed people in 2 different countries and then came back and killed somebody in the UK, I'd expect my history of murder to be factored into my sentencing.

Given that FIFA have oversight of the whole of football they've got no excuses for not exercising their power to ban him from football worldwide given his previous.

Part of me thinks FIFA will be too lenient with the punishment. Seeing that he's one of the most gifted footballers on this planet, scoring spectacular goals and setting new records in one of the biggest leagues in the world, they won't be too hard on such a poster boy.

I wonder whether his erratic behaviour could have a detrimental effect on today's football youth development.

No coach wants a star player, whom the kids look up to, perform in such way.

It sets such a bad example.

It's Sepp Blatter we are relying on people, a few years back he denied knowledge of racism in the game. He's probably studying the video in a pair of those glasses with the springy eyes.....Suarez will get a poxy ban and kids all over the country on a Sunday morning will start biting people.

I honestly don't know what is wrong with this guy.

Three times. Seriously?

He needs help, mental help, not just because he keeps doing this (I've long accepted he's an animal without control of himself) but because anyone who would actually do that with 40 cameras on them in a World Cup is just so dumb, how on earth did he think he would get away with it?

You have to wonder if he is a bit simple.

Suarez waits by the phone for FIFA's verdict

The shoulder bite was described as very rare which dissapointed him as he prefers medium to well done.

lol

That's just made me piss miself!

Hartley the Hare I believe? Striking resemblance..

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be able to officially take it into account in an English court.

I think many past crimes are hidden from a jury so that they judge a case on the facts of that case rather than the persons history.

Anyway, it's a difficult one. I agree with those that say bad tackles etc are potentially far more dangerous, but on the flip side of that I think things like biting and spitting are just pathetic cowardly things to do.

Kick him out of the world cup and ban him... until after we've played Liverpool :D

What I don't understand is why he does it? The man is one of the worlds best footballers but continues to be an absolute twat on the pitch.

Three times this has happened now. Something needs to be done. There is no doubt he will miss the rest of the tournament.

He has to get a long ban at least. Imagine he bites wasyl for example, and was turns round and lamps him, I can honestly see was being punished worse. Thats not right. But what about those guys who slide in trying to do damage? Thats just as bad but harder to prove.
