Stadt Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Awkward one, it would be an unorthodox punishment. I mentioned earlier about a 10 game international ban. Is banning him for the competition 4 years down the line reasonable? In an ideal world I would side with you but I don't think it's a realistic punishment.Fifa should grow a pair and do it.Is a 10 game ban which makes him miss out on some friendlies and a few qualifiers coupled with an £80 fine going to punish him? He should at least miss out the Copa America which I think is reasonable.

Is that it for you? He's bitten someone for fook sake. And not only once. That's 'bitten'.. Christ almighty, give me strength.... What does the bloke have to do... Wookie is even talking about missing the Copa America.. As if that's some sort of big punishment. Heaven help us...are you and Joey Barton related?

Guest MattP Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Wookie is even talking about missing the Copa America.. As if that's some sort of big punishment. Showing some ignorance there Col. The Copa is huge is South America and Uruguay take a lot of pride in it being 'their trophy' to quote Enzo Franchescoli. I'd bet he would rather be banned for half a premier league season than the next Copa.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 No point attempting to convince Liverpool fans on this matter, the Red Specs are blinding. Yet if a United player had done exactly the same thing they would calling for him to be shot on sight. Should receive a hefty ban from all forms of football, 20 games bare minimum due to the repeated offence. With regard to the criminal argument, it is clearly ABH. Very few cases would ever get reported and picked up by the CPS, as the legal position is being that you 'Consent' to the offence if it is within the general rules and behavior of the sport. Also can be very difficult to prove intention of committing a battery in a sporting context.

I think missing two international tournaments is a stretch too far, I was overreacting but he should definitely miss the next Copa - as Matt say that'll hit him harder.
HowardsBulletHeader Posted 25 June 2014 Posted 25 June 2014 Whatever punishment he receives it needs to hit him hard and he needs to be suspended for the rest of the World Cup pending further investigation. I say that because they need to take him out of the spotlight and because they need to get his proper suspension correct. I believe FIFA will bottle it though and probably ban him for something relatively short despite his repeat offences. Didn't Cantona get 8 months for kicking that fan? I don't see how biting another player is any different in terms of the type of offence, if anything it's worse, on that basis it has to be a year minimum.
Parafox Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 Astonishing whatabouterry on the previous page. He should have the book thrown at him. Tyson's crime was far worse but at least it was a first offence. Three times! What a word, I love that. Had to smile when Suarez was rubbing his teeth like Chielini had barged his shoulder into his gob.
leicsmac Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 The level of denial regarding the incident from the Uruguayan press and team is absolutely unreal. It's almost comical. Probably been taking tips from this guy:

kingcarr21 Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 they definately need to take him out of this world cup to take him away from the spotlight. Could you imagine if he plays the next game and does something again. Dont want this brilliant world cup (so far) being tarnished and only remembered by the actions of a player who clearly has issues.
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 What point does that make? Wasnt King tried for his offence and found guilty? Clearly he then didnt learn from his misdemeanours. Suarez needs to be tried for his offence too. I asked the question earlier (no answer)... shouldn't Suarez be investigated for a criminal offence? If not, why not? You can't start prosecuting sportsman for violence you'd have half the amateur football/rugby players in the country banged up at some point in the season. Get a grip man, you been smoking some of that stuff Kitchboxer has been on recently. People have lost their heads.
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 I do agree biting is horrendous and I don't agree with those bringing isolated incidents like Keane being worse and such to prove their point but there is one good example I can think of that's comparable. Honest question, what would you prefer to happen to you Let us remember that by the time he practically put Pedro Mendes in a coma Thatcher had a string of previous offences like the incident above on our poor Nicky. The ban for that sickening and dangerous elbow? 8 games. Now I'm all for him getting a six month ban from all football, possibly even longer as he deserves it, but all this talk of lifetime bans criminal charges and banes for the next World Cup in four years time is rather loopy. Punishment to suit the crime.
MooseBreath Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 You can't spread disease with an elbow though. It's not about the level of pain it's about how disgustingly unhygienic it is. Would you prefer an elbow or someone with hiv ejaculating into an open wound? The latter wouldn't hurt at all remember.

Whilst I understand your point, what a terrible and irrelevant comparison, he didn't break the skin, his shirt would of protected him, and even it it weren't for those two facts the chances of spreading disease through a bite like that would be tens if not hundreds of thousands to one in an diagnosed individual who is likely to under go regular medical examination as part of his job. It's about as far as someone ejaculating into an open wound as you can get. This is forgetting Ben Thatcher could quite conceivabley of killed Pedro Mendes had he hit him square in the back of the head. Never mind given him an infection.
Nick Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 someone with hiv ejaculating into an open wound? The latter wouldn't hurt at all remember. Do you have a basement that nobody is allowed to see?

Guest ttfn Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 For the record, even if Suarez did have HIV it would be next to impossible for it to be transmitted through a bite. Even in Moose Breath's erm, interesting, hypothetical example, there'd be a surprisingly low chance of contracting the disease that way. Basically any talk of hygiene is overblown. It's a grim act but what's got my goat is that it is obviously an unacceptable act in any form of society, he's done it twice before (and been severely punished) and obviously refuses to learn his lesson. Great piece by Daniel Taylor in today's Guardian talking about the Uruguayan reaction.
kingcarr21 Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 Could we have a situation where he gets given a ban, Suarez appeals the decision which would then make him available to play against Colombia?
ScouseFox Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 i dunno what's worse, the fact he did it or the fact everyone in uruguay including suarez himself seem to be denying the fact anything even happened despite the fact it's on fúcking international tele.
AKCJ Posted 26 June 2014 Posted 26 June 2014 Can't get my head around the "You'd rather get bitten than elbowed" argument. People aren't clamoring for him to be banned because they see a bite and the most gruesome act a man can perform. It's because this is his third time. He showed that a 7 game ban wasn't enough to make him stop and he's shown that a 10 game ban wasn't enough to make him stop. So wipe the bucktoothed grin of the ****'s face and swing the ban hammer hard because he needs to learn that he can't go around waving his teeth at anyone who betters him because that's the act of a petulant toddler. If he doesn't learn then I don't want him ruining the reputation of the sport anymore. The game would be better off without him. I play football and I know that if I get bitten off the ball, i'm more likely to throw a paddy than I am if i'm elbowed off it. It's a disgraceful, disgusting and cowardly act and it has absolutely no place in football. I feel sorry for Liverpool in a way. I mean, they knew the risk and the should have just got rid after the first time he did it, but they're in the best position they've been in since around 05 and they've hit the buffers hard now. Suarez is their team. It's all about getting the ball into his feet and either letting him score or letting him assist Sturridge. It's best they cash in, although I should imagine his value has significantly dropped. It's a shame because I love the way he plays the game. I just can't stand him.

I remember reading about Suarez being a national hero for handballing on the line against Ghana. Seem to be a nation of knobs.

Seem to be a nation of knobs. that's different though, i can see why he'd be loved for that, he sacrificed himself for the team. he got punished and suspended but he helped his team get through. this time though they're honestly saying "yes the shoulder collided with luis' face" or something along those lines, and then blaming the english media. it's on tele! i can see it, why are they denying that it even happened?!
