theessexfox Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 This World Cup is there for the taking - no team left in has impressed me whatsoever, and no side looks convincing.
MC Prussian Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 No because that isn't the point he made, is it? (Are you even watching ITV where you are?) He said they were erratic, and that wasn't classic Brazil. They've always been erratic. They've always been a flair side who are suspect defensively and give away crap, amateurish goals too often. Look back to any world cup and you will see examples of this. It's why they got knocked out of Spain 82 for example. Think of players like Roberto Carlos (quick, forward thinking full back who was a poor defender). That side of Brazil has always been. What is true, is this is the worst all round Brazil side I've ever seen. Their erratic-ness was also a major contributor to them winning the World Cup in 1994 & 2002.
Jonezy Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 Quite a homer ref, but Brazil was playing some great stuff in the first 30 minutes, where Colombia just looked shellshocked. Rest of the game was ruined by freekick after freekick and Brazil got a tad lucky yet again.
Kitchandro Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 Spoilt the match?? Was a great spectacle regardless of refereeing decisions. It should have been much, much better. I do consider it spoiling the match when the better team is stifled and loses because they are not allowed to play football due to the referee's failings.
Stuliasz Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 The World Cup is clearly being put into Brazil's hands. They've done nothing to deserve getting this far. Really gone off them as the tournament has gone on.
ScouseFox Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 Brazil didn't look great and I dislike the bias they're receiving. No Thiago or Neymar against Ze Germans and they could be in trouble. Unfortunately I'll never forgive the Germans for 90 or 96 or even the last game at Wembley (very impressionable ages) so that's a lose lose for me. On paper without them Germany are massive favourites bar home advantage which we have seen is a pretty big deal so far. Yeah if the winner doesn't come from the other semi it's not gonna be good
Kitchandro Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 Clear free kick, stop trolling. Coming from you who tries to pick an argument with me in every thread, rich. It's not a free kick if a player jumps over somebody on the floor and falls over. So no, not a clear free kick, not even a free kick when you look at it from all the replay angles. A free kick is when somebody is tripped up or impeded in some. It's not a free kick when a bloke's leg is there and another blokes throws himself over it. That's called diving.

This isn't black and white for me: If the player avoids contact because the challenge is dangerous/two-footed, it's a foul. If contact is avoided due to the player's agility but not enough that he can stay on his feet, he has clearly been impeded and it's a foul. If contact is avoided, and the player has clearly opted not to stay on his feet when he could have, it's not a foul. Very difficult for the refs to tell the difference between these last two.

To qualify for a foul, one does not have to foul the opponent. The intention or attempt is the more important factor and up to the referee to take into consideration. So yes, it was a foul and thus a free-kick.

Only recently as you've turned into a utterr parody of a poster. He clearly impedes him, clearly, he has to jump out the way of the tackle even you've pointed out that yourself, had James got a piece of the ball maybe you'd have a point but he doesn't. Even Rodriquez know's he's committed a foul you can tell by his reaction to the tackle, instead of arguing the foul he opts to argue the toss with the ref on the grounds of the booking saying that's his first one compared to several Brazilian offences.
Guest Col city fan Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 ANOTHER game that went to form. When is there going to be an upset? Belgium v Argentina?
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 55 fouls in that game, at least half were so ridiculously soft to say the least. Yet only 4 yellow cards, one of which was for dissent by Yepes and the other for Silva for blocking the keepers kick. How can that be right?I agree with Kitch to an extent about the way football has deteriorated at the top level in the last 10/15 years. What annoys me most is where a pundit says 'There is contact.' Contact doesn't necessarily mean it is a foul yet the modern interpretation is that any contact is now a foul, no questions asked which ruins the flow of the game. It is almost as if a player looks first for winning a free kick/penalty rather than getting a shot away and scoring.
Amin Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 https://vine.co/v/MUjJvVixHAn More class from David Luiz. Proper bloke. David Luiz is the man.
VinceNoir Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 Damn. Gutted for Colombia. They've by far been my team since our shambolic England side went out :-( I don't know who to support now.
Swarles Barkley Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 Seems Neymar is out of the World Cup. Gutted. Yep, confirmed by team doctor which will have a major impact on team morale. Reckon Germany will beat them now.
StanSP Posted 4 July 2014 Posted 4 July 2014 Quite disappointed with that news. Loved watching Neymar play for Brazil this tournament. Seemed to bring the game to life when others around him sapped energy and life (Fred). Broken vertebrae. Just screams out pain even reading about it. Hope he recovers soon and has no long-term damage!
Dan Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Neymar out. It's a shame in some ways but I'm struggling to sympathise with a cheat.
ScouseFox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 He's clearly a massive bellend but still heavy on brazil. At least they almost definitely won't win it now. That said he's barely touched the ball other than taking set pieces since the group stage.
Dan Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 They'll still win it. Somehow. The thing is Brazil haven't been great but who has? The only side who'd been consistently good have been knocked out. It's there for the taking for Brazil. Even Germany haven't been convincing for me.
RowlattsFox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Colombia got away with some hefty challenges on Brazil players too, the tackle on neymar which injured him for example and I remember a knee high tackle on hulk went unpunished. I'm not sure if people of being serious with their over the top accusations of bias towards Brazil.
CosbehFox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 There was a twenty minute spell in the second half of foul, foul , foul, dive, poor pass and then aimless Brazil hoof cheered by the part time daytrippers. How the hell Zuniga and Ferdinandinho didn't get a yellow card each I'll never know.
MC Prussian Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Wasn't Neymar properly fit, anyway? A rather risky decision in the first place by Scolari to field him at all.
Matt Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Hope Germany beat Brazil. Gutted for Colombia, possibly more so than when England disappointed.
