Swarles Barkley Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Fvck sake. You just know social media is going to be flooded with people making "its a krul game" jokes
sdb Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Tim Kruhl and the BBC punditry team have annoyed me immensely over the last 10 mins
Matt Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Get in there the Dutch! Gary, I can't believe you keep going on about never seeing it done before and 'Not even Fergie dared to do it'....You're meant to be a Leicester fan! If only Martin was in the studio, but he's decided to work for ITV for some bizarre reason.
Mark_w Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Yes, I'm sure the Man United fans will be ecstatic that their new manager has managed to mastermind a 0-0 draw with Costa Rica.
Kitchandro Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Listen to all this praise for Van Gaal. He's such a good manager he needed a dive to beat Mexico and couldn't beat Costa Rica in 120 minutes. Hopefully when the semis come around Martin will bring up the fact he did that 20 years ago with Leicester City etc. Incredulous at the referee for not doing his job and making sure Krul couldn't start mouthing off to every penalty taker.
The Doctor Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Right, Brazil vs Argentina for me - Holland are a bunch of twats for winning this, and Germany knocked Mahrez out.
foxfanazer Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Right, Brazil vs Argentina for me - Holland are a bunch of twats for winning this, and Germany knocked Mahrez out. That'd be a crazy final!
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Yes, I'm sure the Man United fans will be ecstatic that their new manager has managed to mastermind a 0-0 draw Costa Rica. If there is one thing that amazes me more than people slagging of the tournament because of a few 0-0 draws it people still taking the piss out "Costa Rica" The Dutch were actually the lowest ranked side they've played this tournament and their the only team that have managed to beat them
fazzyfox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 It does help if you get the penalty kick you're entitled to during the match, even if it does potentially conflict with Blatters pre-filled wall chart of "classic" semi's. And also if the ref acted like he has the authority to control the shoot out and not just be a bystander.
The Doctor Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 That'd be a crazy final! It'd be great. It'd result in a massive riot no matter who won if the amount of Argies in Brazil being claimed is correct, but it'd be great.

Guest Col city fan Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Costa Rica were cool as ice in the shoot-out v Greece. Can see them doing this. The Dutch have cost me an arm and a leg by not scoring in open play. Magic effort by the Costa Ricans. Well organised, well disciplined and so much endeavour. Everything the English aint. Holland were lucky there...
CosbehFox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Holland weren't lucky! They hit the bar twice and the post once. Costa Rica played defended well but hardly threatening the goal. Must admit I was rooting for Costa Rica once Krul did all the arsehole tricks.
Soar Fox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 It'd be rude not to post this. Still get goosebumps whenever I watch this.
kingfox Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 USA, Colombia & Costa Rica all out. This World Cup is officially finished for me. Wasted four weeks of my life, missed episodes of Corrie for nothing, time to burn my wallchart.
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 I'm not slagging Costa Rica off, but their side pretty clearly isn't as talented as the Netherlands. On paper Same could be said of Italy Uruguay England and probably even Greece. Yet they've all gone home whether it be directly or indirectly at the hands of Costa Rica Must be about 10th time I've said it but there is a lot more to international football than who's better on paper. The saying there's no easy games in international football is a myth but it's not very often you get an easy game in a World Cup Finals. They deserve a bit more respect than being used as a stick to poke fun at Luis Van Gaal. Who is btw an extremely good manager.
Dan Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 How were Holland lucky? I've got a lot of respect for Costa Rica but some of the luck they had tonight was astonishing. USA, Algeria and Costa Rica have won plenty over this tournament. Good on them all.

The saying there's no easy games in international football is a myth but it's not very often you get an easy game in a World Cup Finals. Yes I do understand that. My point is that the Dutch players genuinely are better than the Costa Rica players (Based on their performances in club football and previous Internationals I don't think that's an unfair comment), but the Costa Rica manager did a far superior job to Louis Van Gaal tonight (and pretty much throughout the tournament). Which is why I wouldn't be that impressed if I was a Man United fan (though I'd be keeping an open mind).
DennisNedry Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 Holland easily deserved to win the game. I'd hate to have seen Costa Rica go through, as least the Argies won't have it easy now. 4 big big teams left.
VinceNoir Posted 5 July 2014 Posted 5 July 2014 I'm struggling to understand why everyone is labeling LVG a tactical genius. I understand the circumstances, but surely if he reckons Krul is considerably better at saving penalties, he's going to put him on? It's common sense if you ask me. It was all pre-planned anyway. Krul was warming up with about 10 minutes to go.
Manwell Pablo Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Yes I do understand that. The decision discussed on the TV was that of bringing Krul, no one was giving him plaudits for drawing 0-0 with Costa Rica. Which like it or not turned out to be a good, reasonably impressive managerial decision. Now, you have tried to discredit that by giving it the "well done you've drawn with Costa Rica" (something totally unrelated to what he was being credited for) line and that is what I am arguing. Regardless of what players they have, they've seen off 4 of the top 12 in the world in this tournament. They are not to be taken lightly and a victory against them is not something to be scoffed at, no one else has managed it in four games, despite having better players than Costa Rica. I think a World Cup Semi Final, beating a highly impressive Chile side, and a 5-1 victory against the reigning champions, despite the fact his defense is that weak that Van Aanholt came close to getting in the squad, will be enough to impress. That's forgetting the 15 odd top level and European club trophies he's won in his career. Even if Costa Rica hadn't had an excellent tournament, I wouldn't be losing much sleep as a Manchester Untied fan because of one 0-0 draw in which they categorically deserved to win within the distance anyway. All in all, you've made an extremely stupid comment.
Stadt Posted 6 July 2014 Posted 6 July 2014 Yep, it's hardly revolutionary and I'm pretty sure Cillesen would have saved a penalty or two anyway.
