adam95581 Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 Talking to a couple of mates today (Arsenal and Liverpool fans) about the upcoming season and their transfer activity and I made the comment that if someone handed me 17th right at this moment I wouldn't take it. They were shocked. Despite the lack of transfer activity on our part and the transfers made by our rivals how would you react if someone gave you the opportunity of finishing 17th? Take it or leave it? I think we have 3 more signings to come and will finish 13th. Thoughts?
foxfanazer Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 I'd take it although I do feel this group of players are capable of more. Survival is key
Stadt Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 Will I be able to collect it from a neighbour? I'm not in right now.
Soar Fox Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 With this current squad yes I would. If we add another 2/3 players, I would expect a little bit better and think we would finish higher.
AKCJ Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 You're mentally ill if you wouldn't take 17th right now.

Danizen Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 It would guarantee survival but it would also guarantee an abject season full of defeats. It's all up in the air, at the minute. We could have the same impact Swansea, Southampton and Hull (2008) had. I wouldn't take 17th right now because I think we could do so much better.
The Blur Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 I do not know- it reeks of lack of ambition if I was to take 17th now. Finishing 17th is unlikely to help us to attract players of higher calibre anyway.
Guest Col city fan Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 Absolutely no doubt. 17th is safe! Then we can kick on in the second season.
adam95581 Posted 16 July 2014 Author Posted 16 July 2014 You're mentally ill if you wouldn't take 17th right now. I'm mentally ill for believing that this squad and management team is better than just accepting 17th place? Good one. I would rather risk it and see us have a season like Swansea's first season than a season where we're guaranteed to have plenty of losses, a few draws and rare wins. May make me optimistic but not mentally ill.

That's my feeling - does anyone have any stats as to how well teams that finish in 17th in their first season do in the subsequent seasons?
Happy Fox Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 It is important for us as a club to stay in the prem. So yes I would take 17th, obviously that shouldn't be our ambition or aspiration long term but in the short term survival is key.
Corky Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 Pearson has finished in the top six in every one of his four full seasons at the club. No need to change ambition now.
