st albans fox Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 will it be a season long struggle and final day escape 17th or a post xmas capitulation and slow drop whilst never being in danger of actually going down. tbh, i'd take the latter whilst the former would probably near kill me. my point being that there are many ways to finish 17th. neither of the ones quoted above are likely to help us attract the calibre of player we need to take the club forward which would probably mean another tough campaign to follow.
Lionheart Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 Yes priority in first season is to stay up then build on it.
Fosse93 Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 I wouldn't take 17th right now, but if that's where we end up then I won't be dissapointed. I hate the whole 'i'd take 17th' mentality before a ball has been kicked - I think we will surprise a few.

foxes_rule1978 Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 That is almost like saying would you take survival, of course I would. Survival is what we want to achieve anything above that would be a bonus. I feel we will do better than 17th though
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 We could do better, but you've got to keep things in perspective, I was still a teenager and hadn't been scarred by a dating app the last time we were in the premier league, so to not take 17th at this stage would be bordering on madness.

Come home lad, come home.
Deucalion Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 I must be mentally ill then. Given the choice of a guaranteed 17th place or seeing how the season goes, I would take the season. Plenty of teams have been promoted and had good seasons, I don't see why we shouldn't do the same. Go for the jugular and have some self-belief for me.
Jace Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 4/7 to get relegated. Don't worry just yet mate we haven't finished 17th yet

I was in the exact same position...and am currently swiping right to every 6/10 and above but would still take the season over guaranteed 17th place!
Captain... Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 If I could, I would. We will not finish higher than 8th at best, the difference between 8th and 17th is a few million quid extra, the difference between 17th and below is everything. Finishing 17th would be a successful season in my opinion. Of course I think we could do better, but I also think we have a squad with very little premiership experience, a seemingly fragile confidence and temperament judging by the second half of 12/13 season and a manager that has managed a handful of games at the top level 7 years ago. We have no divine right to stay up, and despite my confidence that this team is capable of staying up and doing well, I also think that a bad start and a few confidence shaking defeats and next season could be a real struggle.
lgfualol Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 Yes. I envy the confidence of anyone that thinks we'll finish comfortably. I can imagine us spending a bit of time in the bottom 3.
Zapp Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 in a simple yes or no question the answer is yes however the reality is it will be a long season if we're in a position of fearing the drop until may only to squirm to safety the follow up question would surely be, how many years until youre not happy with 17th, and why that long? because if you ask the majority, possibly all except the big 7, they will all be happy with 17th so long as the do well in the cups would you rather have no guarantees of survival and be entertained by young british talent, or take 17th with boring tactics, boring players and performances that are JUST good enough from players you only like because they see out 17th each season despite playing poorly for 20-25 matches a season

What I would really like to see is how far this group of players can go, I would feel gutted if we ended up like Southampton, 2 great seasons followed by the steady dismantling of our team. I would rather see us keep this side (Drinkwater, James, RDL, Moore, Knocky, Mahrez, Schlupp) together for another 5 years and see what can happen by keeping a core of players together for that long.
Bayfox Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 Yes. Despite thinking we can do better. Staying up next season is the ultimate aim. So 17th and a cup final it is.
Tom's Pasta Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 An unequivocal, incontestable, certain, absolute, 100%, without a doubt yes
Flourescent Adolescent Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 With the squad as it is then I'd take 17th. Although with a few more additions I think we could push closer to mid table.
MGLCFC Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 17th would mean another season in the Prem, which must be the aim. Once you've got a foot hold you have more opportunities of signing better players. Realistically I'm hoping for about 13th, but we will need to add to our squad to achieve this IMO. So yes, I'd take 17th, but at present feel we are capable of a little more. I suppose a lot depends how our top performers from last season step up to the Prem.

FreeFox Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 Where is everybody's ambition? I wouldn't take 17th in a million years. I'm not saying this will happen again but when we got promoted back in 1996 we finished 9th in our first season.
blue army 1988 Posted 16 July 2014 Posted 16 July 2014 I think if we finish 17th then itll be a good season but i wouldnt take that right now. I wanna see how the boys hold up.
