I've edited it because it obviously resembles him somewhat but there's something majorly off about it, like an alternative universe Chris Wood or something

It's definately Chris Woods

But not Chris Wood

8 million is a shock!!  It is usually a good indicator what the fans think and 95% of them say he is their best player, don't want him to leave, creates goals out of nothing etc....

A lot don't also seem that shocked at the 8million!!    It does seem a crazy price to pay for someone but i feel a little better hearing such good things from Ipswich fans.

If it happens, then lets give him a chance before we write him off.   Pearson hasn't got much wrong before so he and his scouting team must see something special to pay that much.

In terms of staying up, 8 million is pennies, so when people say rather stick with what we have, what is the harm in adding an extra striker who may offer us something different.

There's paying over the odds for players a la McCormack who did score over 30 goals last season...

Then there's paying 8 million for a man who was released by Forest a year ago.... and cost Ipswich 0.

This is mental!

He's scored one goal in 5 this season so far... Hasn't exactly been a first team player in average Championship sides... Constantly loaned out

I can't believe this for a second.

And for the record I said Cambiasso was definitely happening when the Mirror journalist wrote a recent article... I believed Cambiasso but not this bloke.

Off the topic of chris wood, I quite like mcgoldrick, thought he was one of the best players in champo before he got crocked last season. I agree 8 mill though is steep, not saying I would pay that but i feel that with window about to close and the clubs finances obviously not in any immediate danger and already paying same for ulloa it wouldn't be end of the world...also leicester sources such as 100lcfc.com believe its closer to 3-4 mill mark which I wouldnt bat an eyelid at

That was a very large fee back then. You can't say 500k then is not comparable to some many millions now!

No it wasn't. We bought Izzet - an unknown kid from the Chelsea academy for £750k and they played together. Elliot cost us £1.6m from Oxford Utd. We were absolute paupers in the league and it was nowhere near our biggest buy.

My point is those fees at the time are comparable to the fees being paid now! 750k then is probably worth around 5mil now with inflation.

Economics isn't your strong point is it?

Kids from Chelsea's youth team that have never got close to the first team don't sell for £5m. Cottee's price then was abut £400k. If you bought a 30-something player from a Malaysian club back to England you'd be looking at a similar outlay in terms of purchase price only with a much higher wage these days. Players now cost either nothing, less than a million or £10m. There's no in between.

Is there any need for personal digs?

Some people seem to struggle with the idea that they can disagree with someone without insulting them. It wasn't as if what you had to say was obvious either.

Thanks Harry. I still don't think he has understood my point.  Hard to educate some.

We were there last season and received no such bids. Maybe there was no one as big a mug as us last season looking for a forward.

Or maybe the promoted teams last year didn't have as much money as the promoted teams this year?

Moore, Vardy and Schlupp were the subjects of bids but the bidding clubs immediately were told not for sale.

If we'd entered negotiations, the prices would have escalated.

If this is the going rate for championship strikers then Norwich got an absolute bargain with Grabban at £3.5m

I agree. Certainly in the current market. I think Forest have got a real gem in Assombalonga as well. Though I hate to say it, Forest look like they could cruise the Championship this season.

Did anyone hear the radio interview with Mick McArthy who said we had done the same as MCArthur and bid then not gone back to them again? I didn't but my dad just rang and said. Smokescreen to apply pressure to another player?

It appears we are taking more of a gamble here. Spoke to an Ipswich fan last night who said that he is their best player, but £8m is a huge fee and he is not worth that.

I watched Ipswich last year and there were a couple of Millwall scouts behind me watching the Ipswich tactics for the following game. Their comments were that the midfield is largely ignored, it gets pumped out to the wings with crosses coming in quickly.

My assumption there is that the attacking pair therefore are likely to get the majority of goals, rather than them spread across the team. Not checked this, but worth looking at as it could mean his strike rate is less in a team like ours.

It is obvious that this purely now down to agreeing a fee, MM has confirmed a bid has gone in and confirmed the player has had his head turned.

Looks like we have had a no from Campbell,,Watford, plus others and so we are taking more of a risk now.

Not convinced with this one, but I suppose NP is looking at back up. A lot to pay for back up player though.

They would, because the rest of there pathetic team are chronically bad.

My Ipswich mate said this. The best of a very bad bunch and he also said MM time could be coming up they are that bad
