It's a bit like a sailing ship, gathering a crew, from a bunch of rowers. I am sure there must be some suitable players available. However, I may be wrong, and Pearson will bring in a couple of decent experienced players on loan. Monday!!

Cambiasso has won a Spanish and Italian title, as well as the Champions League, which isn't the Premier league I know, but it isn't a bad achievement. To buy a striker with Premier League experience and the goals to go with it would cost twice as much as we are willing to pay. How do we know that our targets wont cut it in the Prem without them being given a chance?

As supporters we are entitled to our opinions, but I suppose at the end of the day you have to trust those responsible for making transfer decisions to make the right one's. So far, they've done a pretty decent job.

Babylon Posted 30 August 2014 Posted 30 August 2014 How is it misleading? I've explained why, because it's only about 30 games. That is not an accurate reflection of his career at that level. And also because there is more to a player than statistics. Vardy is far more important to our side than his GTG ratio would suggest. He's pacey, he's hard working, and he gives us a totally different option. Ipswich fans also think there is more to DM to his GPG ratio, as King Fox has pointed out they are gutted because of how important he is for them, and not just his goals. Sorry but you can tell what kind of player someone is after seeing them as many times as I've seen McGoldrick (and it's more thnan half a dozen, and I'm not just talking about the small sample of one season like you are). McGoldrick has spent years at Championship level can I point out. He has never been a top striker at that level until last season, which is, as I say, a small sample. If you look at him on the whole, he's not impressive. It's not just one he's been in form though, the guy has been in form for two seasons now in league one and the champ. 16 in 22 for cov in league one, transferred to Ipswich in January and got 4 in 13. Then got 14 in about 30 games. How many years does someone need to be inform before you ignore what went before? Vardy was shit last year, but improved to now be considered one of our most potent strikers. Deeney was poor, he's improved the last couple of years and is now one of the best strikers in the league. As I have said, far from being near the top of my list but his record the last two years has been very good. Saying he was shit 3/4 years ago can be said about a lot of players who are now performing well.

I'm not so sure whether the McArthur pursuit was an attempt to force Cambiasso's decision. I think it was just a plan B in case we missed out on plan A. I think we would have actually got JM if EC had decided not to join us.

gibbin82 Posted 30 August 2014 Posted 30 August 2014 All of this talk about players not being worth this or that is pointless, when it comes down to it its just a game and none of them are really worth anything like what they get paid or are transferred for. But as a global business these are the going rates and if you want to bring players in its what has to be paid, and the only thing that will prove if it was good value is if they can either be later sold on for more or if they help to achieve a clubs goal which might be staying in a division, getting promotion or qualifying for a competition which will increase the income of the club over and above what the cost of the incoming players needed to achieve it. Whether the players are worth what is being asked for I haven't got a clue and nor have almost everyone on this forum, but I trust Nigel Pearson and the club to know what is required and what in the long term will prove to be good value. Unfortunately this transfer window has been unpredictable and transfer prices have rocketed due to all sorts of circumstances, but mainly due to the increased income for the Premier League and the threat of FFP to lower league clubs. But I can see the January Transfer window being a completely different situation with some clubs being forced into a fire sale after suffering the consequences of not meeting FFP and championship player values will crash (unfortunately too late for us as we need players now). However I expect that LCFC and Nigel Pearson will have learnt an awful lot about working the transfer market and by next summer it will be a much easier time for us to bring in the players that have been targeted.

The fact that he has been able to impress in a Mick McCarthy team should say it all. He will be awesome for you guys. The £8m (+ add-ons) is correct in this market for someone of his talent. (And that is the fee by the way). Anyway, good luck for the season!

Thankfully, Leicester City's scouts use more advanced metrics than the average fan to achieve that end.

I couldn't remember seeing Ipswich too much on TV and knew their fans had been moaning about their lack of coverage. Judging from their forum they have been on Sky about 4/5 times in over two and a bit years!

The answer you're looking for is no. That's not what I'm saying and I am more than aware we aren't going to get someone of that calibre. Players like Vardy and Ulloa might get players like Kompany and Koscielny to think that playing against them isn't going to be a walk in the park, so someone of that calibre would be nice as I doubt McGoldrick is on par with what we already have.
