Not a real holiday but in Belfast this weekend to watch the golf at portrush. Once again proven to be a nice city. Golf was cool. Weekend spiced up by a mate going missing after Fri night for over 24 hours, filed a missing person report with the cops and they found him wondering around at 4am this morn

Wow, where had he been ?

Not a clue. Found wondering the streets at 4am, no phone or wallet etc. No time to figure out the details and what he was doing in Belfast alone for 24 hrs, I got a few hours Kip and now got a plane to catch!

Is there such a place that’s not too touristy nowadays?

you could try Valencia as an alternative to somewhere like Barcelona.

Both be exceedingly busy with tourists in the midst of the summer. Particular as port cities. Both are better from mid September onwards.

Valencia is a decent shout. Cadiz another. Genoa and along the coast there

@sdb I go to Trapani a lot and thankfully it doesn't seem to have been overrun by Brit tourists yet. Sleepy town and a good base for some really beautiful beaches and islands nearby. Great food obviously. Sicilian seafood but with a Tunisian influence.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I’m probably not as seasoned a traveller as you and this is the first time anything like this has happened in my experience.

Turns out that booking.com made a mistake in the email they sent me when AirAsia cancelled my flight to Bali. The alternative flight offered wasn’t for 9th August after all, it was for 4th August like the original flight. If I’d have known that there wouldn’t have been any dramas. So booking.com mostly to blame, and myself for panicking, but AirAsia not providing any way to speak to a human is unforgivable. I’m sure it could all be sorted out in short order if I could speak to someone. Loads of people complaining online about Bo (the AirAsia AI). Bo is a c**t and I told him so lol

I now have 4 seats on the exact same outbound and return flights for just the wife and myself 😂

I’ll no doubt have to battle on some more over the next week or so, but getting my money back looks like it’s going to be an uphill struggle. Probably just have to put it down to experience.

One of my team mentioned the other day he often gets Jetstar to price match cheap flights to Bali, saves himself thousands.  No idea how it works and I can't ask him as he is swanning round France.

Gdansk is a great city. Sopot is right next to it if you fancy a day at the beach too!

Has anyone had any experience travelling to Basel Mulhouse airport? Looking to fly here and travel on to Freiburg in Germany via seeing Basel itself. Can't see any suggestion I need to do anything extra as a UK citizen to get between cities from the airport?

Any other Black Forest/Freiburg general recommendations also much appreciated!

I doubt I’ll be using AirAsia again or Booking.com, but I’m getting a glimmer of hope that I might get my money back on one of the flights. It’s all a bit difficult to say really as you’re never quite sure whether anyone is actually doing anything even after you think you’ve made contact.

I reckon I’ll pay a bit more in the future to deal with airlines & travel agents that definitely have offices in Australia, but even then, I’m pretty sure Qantas, Jetstar, Virgin, etc have all been in the news after screwing over their customers.

It seems like the travel industry, especially airlines, get away with murder here.

Got 5 days booked in Iceland at the end of November. Will obviously be cold and short days, but anyone got any tips/hidden gems? Have a car rented for the time we are there and got the obvious stuff on the list.

Only thing that lets it down and obviously depends on your little one but the drive from the airport can be a bit of a stretch. Took us 2 hours a couple of years ago, which with a 1 year old wasn't fun.

Pay a visit to the Foxes Arms lol

Hotel's a 2-minute walk from it! lol

Can't even be blamed as the missus picked the location and the travel agent picked the hotel. Will probably pop in for a token pint and pic of the shirts on the walls etc.

Both are lovely. Sorry, that probably doesn't help.

Just got back from a week in Crete. Lovely stuff. Locals are as hospitable as I've met anywhere in the world.

How was the airport? I loved it in Crete but he been put off going back by the absolute farce that is the airport.

Good call on the car rental. Outside of the typical Reykjavik scene, we loved our stay at the Black Beach Suites. Breathtaking scenery, not far from Vik. Also close to Skogafoss and Mia’s Country Van (a food truck that was one of our best meals on the trip).

Beautiful country, we will be back again to visit.

We visited a different thermal spring each day in the week we went. We figured it's Icelandic culture to do it at the end of each day. We did the following:

Blue lagoon - touristy as fu*k but totally worth it

Nauthólsvík Geothermal Beach - free and in Reykjavik. Busy after school, must see.

Gamla Laugin - free. Oldest in Iceland and is like swimming in a warm duck pond. Brilliant scenery, changing rooms are rank, get changed outside, every one is naked anyway.

Reykjadalur Hot Spring Thermal River - free, must see. No changing rooms. Don't be British and go where other people aren't as the temperature varies. We made this mistake. I suspect it's more touristy than when we went, the odd helicopter was delivering tourists when we were there.

Landbrotalaug Hot Springs - we got engaged here. It's 1.5m across and now has a Google pin which is a shame. I had to buy a GPS to find it, we ran through snow across a field in our swim stuff, it's 40 degrees once in and we stayed there until midnight as it didn't get dark in may while we were there.
