And of course you would do exactly what he did in a similar situation.

What shove a few people in the fridge and leg it out the back door?... I'd definitely be doing the last part.

That's a disappointing response. The guy saved peoples lives.

(I must admit, my first thought was... he'll have to pay tax now!)

Come on though, in situations like this, you have to ask the question 'who benefits?' Did the French NEED to give him citizenship or anything? Didn't anyone else do anything selfless during the chase and shootout? What about the police that took the guys down? Yes they are already French citizens, but will they get a bonus tax break, or a free holiday or something?

Haha yea, he might be smiling now, but wait until the tax hits him!

I'm just being a sceptic, that's all. He did a good thing, I'm not taking that away from him.

France: Look, look! We do like muslims! lol.

Was the +1 for that post genuine? It's obviously to offset whats been happening and is just a gesture. Or maybe I'm just being a massive sceptic?

Reminds me of a scene from the film 'Crash', where District Attorney Brendan Fraser is trying to offset the backlash of getting held up by black men, so decides he needs to find a black man to give a medal to. Unfortunately, the closest they can get is an Iraqi named Saddam :/

lol X-Factor politics at it's finest. A small gesture that will probably win more votes than any policy would.

Feel good story and means we can all indulge in a bit of liberal back slapping whilst ignoring and talking about how to solve real problems.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/11398967/Huge-crowd-of-Muslim-protesters-picket-Downing-Street-to-protest-at-Charlie-Hebdo-cartoons.html

At least 1,000 Muslim protesters gathered outside the gates of Downing Street to protest against the depictions of the Prophet Mohammed in Charlie Hebdo, the French satirical magazine.

The protestors, many of whom were divided into groups of men and women, gathered just yards from the Cenotaph which remembers Britain’s war dead, and blocked half of Whitehall as they demonstated.

It comes weeks after two terrorists attacked the offices of Charlie Hebdo, the Paris-based satirical magazine which had published images of the Prophet Muhammad, killing 12 staff and wounding 11 others.

The protest was organised by the Muslim Action Forum, which said that the Charlie Hebdo cartoons had helped “sow the seeds of hatred” and had damaged community relations.

One young child, who appeared to be under the age of 10, stood next to a placard displaying the message: “Charlie and the abuse factory”.

A series of Muslim leaders addressed the crowd from a platform outside the Ministry of Defence, with the message “Be careful with Muhammad”.

The meeting was organised by the Muslim Action Forum, which was handing out leaflets about the demonstration on Whitehall.

The leaflet said: “The recent re-publishing of the cartoons, caricatures and depictions of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) by Charlie Hebdo magazine and other publishers is a stark reminder that freedom of speech if regularly utilised to insult personalities that others consider sacred.

“Such actions are deliberating insulting and provoking to Muslims worldwide as British citizens, we believe that these publications will continue to ‘sow the seeds of hatred’ and damage community relations.

“In an already fragile world we need to move from actions of incitement, hatred and provocation to civility, consideration and respect.”

In an apparent reference to the attacks on Charlie Hebdo magazine the leaflet added that “regrettably some Muslims” had “taken the un-Islamic path of human destruction”.

It added: “The vast majority of Muslims worldwide shall not denigrate their historical and current values by reciprocating hatred.

“Muslims shall call upon their deep spiritual strength and take the moral high ground by inviting the world to civility in any form of expression, dialogue, discourse and debate.”

The Forum delivered a petition to 10 Downing Street signed by over 100,000 British Muslims to highlight the view that the majority of Muslims worldwide call for 'Global Civility' rather than destruction of human life.

The group also expressed "deep regret" at the Paris terror attacks, which included a massacre at Charlie Hebdo, saying they were a "violation of Islamic law".

Shaykh Tauqir Ishaq, a senior spokesman for the Forum, said "Perpetual mistakes by extremists, either by cold-blooded killers or uncivilised expressionists, cannot be the way forward for a civilised society.

"The peace-loving majority of people must become vociferous in promoting global civility and responsible debate. At this time of heightened tension and emotion, it is crucial that both sides show restraint to prevent further incidents of this nature occurring."

Shaykh Noor Siddiqi, another Forum representative, said "The actions of the UK media in not publishing the cartoons is highly appreciated by British Muslims and we hope that this kind of self-restraint and mutual respect will ultimately lead to a harmonious society."

Across the street on Whitehall a handful of counter demonstrators holding a Britain First banner gathered. Scotland Yard said it was not aware of any arrests during the protest.

I think the publishing of these cartoons helps to improve relations tbh. If you exclude a certain group from satire you send out the message that they're not part of our society as they need to be treated differently.

Being able to accept people poking fun at your beliefs is a very British thing. If you react angrily to it and declare it wrong or immoral you're telling everyone that you're not like them, if only in one respect.

I say we call their bluff and say "right lads, we've decided for the sake of global peace that we will all honour the hadith that says you cannot depict Muhammed - since that hadith prohibits all pictures of anything living ever, everyone turn in your paintbrushes, pencils, cameras, carved potatoes, etc.  Your god might want to have a word with you about all those moving images of yourselves that you've been broadcasting around the globe too, good luck getting those virgins now guys."

I am not religious but if I were I would like to think that the one I followed had a sense of humour. What gives these people the right to say what their prophet thinks. I know some religious people, one who is a priest who think Life of Brian is one of the funniest films ever and that received a lot of criticism. We even had Look on the Bright Side of Life as a signature tune for a radio show intro and ending and the priest sang along with it.

There are also a few muslim comedians around. A recent BBC sit com used to make fun of them. I have not heard about a mass protest over it.

Muslim in court today who counted the abedewalijo brothers as his idols and was caught on his way to a barracks with a knife and a hammer and has admitted he was going to find a soldier and chop his head off. Nice.

Saw a poster for that protest circulating online and hoped it would just be Abu and his 20 nutters, very sad to see 1,000 odd people there and even more so given the events of ISIS in the previous week, big shame a counter protest wasn't launched as well.

Horrible really.

And now he goes to prison, which will really help matters as the 'brothers' inside will be right on him.

That seems a rather extreme reaction.

That seems a rather extreme reaction.

I heard he had a knife and was wearing a belt that looked like a suicide vest, but it turns out it wasn't.

I can understand why they shot him if true.

I was going to say.

Man runs into police station shouting Allah Akbar on Charlie Hebdo anniversary, you can forgive the police for being a bit on edge.

Someone suggested doing something similar to this as a stag do forfeit.

I think we'll just go for the padlocked to a lampost cliche.
