Witnesses spoke of sustained gunfire at the office as the attackers opened fire with assault rifles. The satirical weekly has courted controversy in the past with its take on news and current affairs. Its latest tweet was a cartoon of the Islamic State militant group leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. An eyewitness, Benoit Bringer, told French TV channel Itele: "Two black-hooded men entered the building with Kalashnikovs. A few minutes later we heard lots of shots." I can't even begin to imagine what goes through someone's head to attack a defencless and unarmed satrical magazine on the basis of one tweet. Very sad for both those involved and for free speech itself, hope this is end of it.

One serves and protects the people, the other attacks the enemy of the state. Mix them, and the enemy of the state tends to become the people. And on another level, by doing this these death-worshipping fascist cvnts want escalation. Do we really want to oblige them? Horrible incident, just shows how much ideological nutjobs like this fear and loathe the idea of dissent and free speech.

And executing gays, too. Some people have their religion turn them into sociopaths, no matter what the religion is. Even the Buddhists can get nasty. That's fundamentalist ideology of pretty much any kind for you.

Bury our head in the sand and pretend that one day these extremists (now vast in number across Europe and growing) will come around to our way of thinking? Not a chance, it doesn't take a genius to realise that escalation is coming whether we like it or not.
