well it seems this window we have decided to splash some cash , while im chuffed to bits by this i cant help but think if we had targetted the kind of quality we are now at the start of the season then we would not be bottom of the league .

do you think the removal of terry robinson has had something to do with this , he prob seen the kind of player we wanted and threw his toys out of the pram.

I don't think we can blame all this on Terry, don't forget we tied up Ulloa pretty early on in the Summer. He also negotiated the bargain of the century for Mahrez.

The market is brutal for a newly promoted side, everyone knows you have millions to spend and everyone wants a piece of it.

what does a director of football even do. I never understood his role.

I think the role can vary from club to club, hence the very broad title.

I suspect that part of his salary came in bonus' from saving money on signings, as in , a potential player wants 50 grand a week, we'll give you 40 so if the player comes he'd get a percentage of that saving. Unfortunately no-one came.

So we get a guy who is an 'expert' in transfer dealings and could barely negotiate a deal. What is the point of having someone like this? Cant the chairman and manager do this role jointly or someone else. Really seems like a pointless position

My personal opinion is yes .... He was a major obstacle to signings. Briefed to do the negotiations he saw that as continue to be a an old yorkshireman and be as tight as possible .... he lives in a different era.

He also represented the club and was an embarrassment in modern business ... could barely string a sentence together, and was fat - can't help when representing a sports club??

I do think he was to blame in alot of ways for certain.... But i also remember in the summer them saying that we were after a young european striker but they were not sure if he could get  a work permit. Logic tells me that it was Kramaric as thats the little hiccup we are dealing with now - getting his permit sorted.  so there were possibly other obsticles too...

selective memory Captain. that negotiation was a disaster and took nearly 2 months.

That was mainly Brighton not wanting to sell. Once the fee was agreed the deal was done quite quickly if I remember correctly.

And thats his point - it was Robinson doing the negociations for the fee - it was his Job to get it agreed instead of fannying around with 500k increments every few days.

precisely. if that had been sorted in may/early june as it should have been, who knows what else we would have been able to sort on the striker front. not knowing if ulloa would come affects everything else ?

I think it's hard to pass comment on his role and what he did/offered as he operated behind the scenes.

A lot saying he was tight and messing around over 500k over deals etc but wasn't some of his job to help keep within FFP? Also we had a title of being big spenders, instantly clubs will increase their players value to cash in on us as much as possible.

I think if the Kramaric work permit doesn't go through it will leave the club a little red faced, surely this is something a club should be investigating before negotiations even begin?

What makes you think they didn't?

I'm not saying that they might not of looked into it but some clubs wouldn't go through with a transfer if they know it's a 50/50 chance of gaining a work permit

If that is true then I see your point, but you can't take one thing somebody has said as fact. As many have said, the fact the club have popped this on the site gives the impression they are extremely confident there shouldn't be any issues.

What's the one thing somebody has said as a fact?

I hope it does get granted, I'm not hoping otherwise but it would of seemed very suspicious of the club failed to make a statement or seemed negative about the situation.

I think he was referring to the "50/50" thing. "50/50" was only mentioned by one reported and it's probably safe to assume the club are much more confident than that, especially when you consider Nige's press conference today.

Clearly the club have looked into what you need to show for him to get one, as just discussed by Pearson in the press conference he thinks we have a very good chance due to what he has done in his league and national career so far. There isn't much more they can do than guess as to whether he meets the criteria.

You think a government office would take any notice of an application for something that may never happen.

Or they give him a work permit for us and last minute he signs for Chelsea.

They will have investigated the criteria then knowing he fits it apply.

Then untill the permit is given they have to wait for it to be processed like anyone would have too.

So those who are anti Robinson are sayign effectively, deliberately or not, he sabbotaged our summer dealings?
