Why? It's a huge show of support against a decision made now.

Is it comedy gold every week when people call for his head and we don't sack him?

I like your posts Matt but you gotta admit, this was a beauty.

All that guff and then this happens...

It's like some comedy sketch mate, it really is.

Just take it on the chin and chalk it down to bad luck.,

All that guff? i think you'll find that the POSITIVE reaction to his post spoke volumes about the support that Pearson has (had) on here. You can see by the reaction to NP's sacking that around three quarters of our fanbase are against this move. So tell me again, what's so funny? I must have missed the 'joke'.

The very fact that we are in the Premier League now, regardless of where we finish, represents progress under the manager.

I'm not saying relegation is a good thing at all, but i am saying it still represents progress on some level. I would rather be in a relegation dogfight in the Premier League than fighting for promotion in the Championship. I'm also an advocate of the notion that sometimes you have to take one step backwards to take two steps forward - that means get promotion next season and have a much more successful second stint in the Prem due to lessons learnt). If we get relegated and then make a bad start to next season, they by all means look for a replacement manager.

But the league is tough this year. There are 5 or 6 teams that could be relegated and things are not over.

I have to take issue with you saying that Lennon, Warburton, Howe and Karanka would have a greater chance of doing better at this level than Pearson. That's bollocks of the highest order. Harry Redknapp is an established top level manager and even he struggled to lift his team this season, that shows how tough things are. The managers you've listed, McClaren included, are not guaranteed anything. And your McCarthy suggestion is ludicrous. He hasn't been relevant in years.

Have you been watching our games this season? Did you see the game today? Nigel has built a good team capable of competing with ANY team in the league. The squad are STILL fighting for him even if our fans are turning on him. Yes he has made some mistakes, give me a manager that doesn't make mistakes. Mourinho, Guardiola and Simeone don't count!

We have a lot to be thankful to Pearson for. That alone doesn't get him a free pass. You are entitled to want him out if you wish, but i take issue with anybody saying that and then coming up with the list you did as potential replacements!

I could have written this. Especially with reference to 2 steps forwards and one step back.It annoys me that people suggest that because we stand by the manager we are becoming obsessed to the point of standing by him ahead of supporting our club. Those ludicrous statements insult me! To suggest people like me have accepted becoming a second tier club patronise me. Such phrases are made by people who cannot accept an alternative perspective. I understand why you want Pearson out but I am a believer on planning long term and not short term. In my own career, I now look back on how much I have learnt, how much I have changed the way I deal with situations. How I used to struggle with difficult tasks but now address them without fear. Through my life, I have in effect written people off as poor only to see them develop into assets over time.

What is evident in my own case and those I have observed is that rarely does anyone progress without hitting hurdles from time to time, without getting knocked back;, Life is 2 steps fowards and 1 step back. Pearson has shown me enough in what he has achieved so far to convince me he is a good manager. He has done enough to convince me that he learns from his mistakes over a period of time. He is inexperienced in the premier league but I believe in time he will learn. Unfortunately that may mean dropping down to the championship and I will be gutted - absolutely gutted if that happens.

But MY belief is that allowing Pearson time to learn, allowing a backwards step down is a much much better risk than opting for someone new. Grass is rarely greener. FFS have WE not learnt that yet? Not in the 10 years before?

So yes - I will stand by Pearson even if it means relegation, I will continue to challenge some of his decisions and get confused by team selections, but I will also remind myself that I am an FA1 licenced coach and not a PRO A licenced coach. I will remind myself that I don't have his experience of playing top flight football and managing teams, I will remind myself that I don't know the players from adam, their personalities, how well they are doing n training, how fit they are, but most importantly, I will remind myself of all the cock ups I've made over the years and how looking back some of them stared me in the face for ages but took me quite some time to see for myself and learn from.

So guys - I may be wrong, he may prove to have reached his plateau but on the evidence so far, he has convinced me to stick with him this season and re-evaluate next season; Just DON'T and I mean DON'T accuse me and people who think like me of blindly supporting him over my beloved club and DON'T assume I am settling for second best!

It's a bit like this 'I told you so' has had a poker that's been heated up in a fire, fuelled of smugness and self absorption and then rammed up your ass, Col.

Mr P. You got bloody lucky there mate...... I was only laughing at the timing of your post, now you can laff at mine, or so it seems.

On a serious note, this complete circus of a season continues and quite frankly, the club and Pearson are lurching from one bit of chaos to another. How this story has broken, God knows....I'm not sure I've ever seen SKY report something with such gusto, only for it to be proven erroneous information.

What a farce of a season...

Excellent post sir, sums it up for me nicely.

I would have said the same as the OP about Little and MON but they left us when they got a better offer. I said the same about Adams but the next season he never got anywhere near promotion and ended up resigning in October. I even said the same about Holloway but Pearson came in and the job he did couldn't be bettered.

Managers come and go but the club and us fans will always remain. If the next bloke is a success Pearson will soon be forgotten. It's not wise to get hung up on a manager.
