Burmesefox Posted 9 February 2015 Posted 9 February 2015 Just unnecessary for him to add that comment. Lacking in class really. He prides himself on staying schtum and rising above at playground name calling yet has been drawn in again just like when McArthur got his goat by answering back. Man on the edge and losing it. Need a win tomoz desperately to galvanise things.
Tom17LCFC Posted 9 February 2015 Posted 9 February 2015 is there a parrot in the room? ah right i see completely agree m8
cityfanlee23 Posted 9 February 2015 Posted 9 February 2015 Funnily enough, he's starting to resemble Brian clough (without the open minded personality, and also the success) He says what he wants, and doesn't care. Unfortunately it only works if you're winning.
Soar Fox Posted 9 February 2015 Posted 9 February 2015 Ha ha a couple of laugh out loud moments in there. I laughed out loud at "I was like Blofeld" and "I don't even talk to my neighbours"
Corky Posted 9 February 2015 Posted 9 February 2015 Linekar is such a legend that so many don't actually know how to spell his surname.
Hirsty The Blue 94 Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 Well written article. Ruined by the sensationalist first paragraph. The occasions I have met Pearson he has been a fantastic man and very witty, and same said fir pals who have met him too. If he somehow comes out with a win tomorrow it will be wonderful for him, the club and the owners.
Donut Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 Beyond a joke now. Hes a media idiot and will take ridiculous patronising and self righteous snipes at anyone, even when theyve got every right to question his unprofessional behaviour. Im sick of the light Pearson is portraying our club in publically, its ridiculous. Sniping at club legends reporting on saturdays events, wrestling with opposition players, opening public spats with utterly ridiculous comments against managers like Sean Dyche and Burnley, telling fans to **** off and die? Its a grown man, a professional managing a football club. If i was chairman, and I dont care if i get laughed at for this, i would genuinely take him to one side, and say the next incident involving you, whatever it might be whether it be your attempt at a joke by grabbing a players throat, or one of your typical journalist hate press conferences, you clear your desk.
5waller5 Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 Reading this and thinking about the last 48 hours I've stopped wondering whether it's pressure and started to think NP is a bit thick. The owners are known as very upright people with high morals and from the top of a culture where honour and integrity are uppermost. Conduct has been a problem to them and he's had a telling off about his conduct ..... Then immediately he embarks on yet another public spat with someone, this time a LCFC legend and club executive. He's either unable to keep his temper under control or is too daft to understand there's just one thing he can't do - dirty the club's name - Doesn't matter about results, they're forgiven, just don't make us look mugs Nige, OK? ..... and so he gets into a sniping match with the main presenter of football on the BBC.
ozleicester Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 As i said in a previous topic, pressure creates diamonds or dust, It seems that NP is going to the latter, he has presented us with a wonderful few years some joyous and fantastic days out, but as he says, "the premiership is a different beast" and at the moment he is unable to handle it. I would still keep him as he will be useful if/when we need to get back out of the Championship, BUT, His personnel handling qualities must be called into question and, is it possible that this is one of the reasons we have struggled to sign premiership experienced players? Oh and Lineker is a TRUE Leicester legend, he didnt come here for the money, he wasnt just doing his job, he was, and is Leicester! He is one of the reasons the club exists, bite your tongue and show some respect Nigel.

I don't care who you are, if you reveal information like that you lose a bit of respect. Would you accept it if I said "Pearson's a club hero, he got us promoted twice, therefore you can't criticise him". I'm using the exact same logic as you've used above.

Pearson is our manager, Lineker isn't. Lineker was doing his job as a media pundit on Saturday night (the incident was being discussed everywhere already, they had little choice but to mention it because it was extremely bizarre). Pearson, on the other hand, didn't do his job as a manager on Saturday, and was involved in one matter of questionable conduct during the game on Saturday, another after the game in his press conference, and another before the next game in his pre-match conference when he used it to take a swipe at Lineker. If we want to focus on what they offered the clubs in their capacity of Leicester City employees, then they've both done a great job in the past, though Pearson is making a mighty mess of it at the moment. If we want to focus on what they've offered the club beyond that, then Lineker's contribution in 2002 was one of the most important in our entire history. So yes, you can criticise Lineker for one single tweet on the back of a totally unnecessary attack (not for the first time, some might add) by our manager, but in order for it to seem anything other than clutching at straws you would also have to acknowledge the, by comparison, huge cavalcade of sh*t caused by Pearson - and the club's owners - that led to it.

I wasnt intending to say he cant be criticised, everyone in public life who is free to comment should be open to criticism, but GL is in the media he is doing his job pretty honestly and fairly it would seem (IMO), someone told him about a situation at Leicester and he commented, NP got personal and took a cheap shot, NP struggles with the pressure (as do many given the incredible levels of scrutiny that being a prem manager brings.) and becomes difficult toward the media in general.

Well again, I feel the need to point out that I'm not talking about Lineker responding to criticism. I'm talking about his suggestion that the manager had already been sacked. The rest of what he said before that really doesn't bother me in the slightest. Arkie Bennett Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 A standard of journalism that Ian Stringer could only dream of achieving.
C-man Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 I wish NP hadn't have said 'I pay my tax bill' but he isn't the first manager to deflect attention by accusing the media of making something of nothing and he won't be the last. Are we that small-time that we think that the first bit of negative national media coverage in years (let's be honest, even 'fvck off and die' didn't make this much news; people like Lineker were laughing about it) means we are an embarrassment? No wonder Arsenal fans come across as the mongiest set of twats on the planet - they react like this to every loss. Very balanced article from Henry Winter, good read.
Collibosher70 Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 Great article...me and Pearson have something in common..I don't talk to my neighbours either....lets smash the arsenal
GaelicFox Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 "The players sounded ready for training, not for analysing or engaging in banter about the manager’s future. “No gags, no jokes,’’ Pearson observed" NOT GOOD....all a bit toxic now, it's a matter of WHEN not IF, and that's a sad way to deal with a loyal servant but Thailand has questionable human rights and dignity history so I'm not surprised
Mike Oxlong Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 A petty and unnecessary dig from Pearson followed by a petty and unnecessary reply from Lineker. No winners. The club loses.
Matt Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 Listen I like Gary, he's a Leicester legend but I do wish people would take their blinkers off sometimes, if it was anyone else but Gary, someone who wasn't a Leicester fan we'd all be slagging what Gary did off. That's not saying what NP said was the right thing to do.
GaelicFox Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 Matt most people have expressed there dis-satisfaction with both manager and honorary vice chairman, all in all a farce, poor Pearson fought off wolves now he is fighting snakes in the press (not winters) Pearson is cooked bar a miracle turn around his days are numbered
teblin Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 Tax bill comment. I wondered if he meant license fee.
Stevosevic Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 Most of the papers running with Pearson stories and change in mind by the owners as well as the spat with Lineker. It's all quite frankly embarrassing now.
Babylon Posted 10 February 2015 Posted 10 February 2015 Most of the papers running with Pearson stories and change in mind by the owners as well as the spat with Lineker. It's all quite frankly embarrassing now. Most of the ones I have read the writers all seem to have a great deal of respect for Pearson and very much seem to like him, despite his prickly demeanor. A lot of them (well the respectableish papers anyway) set the tone of, don't try and fight every battle as you won't win the war. I have to be honest, none of it bothers me in the slightest. But, I think he just seriously needs to straight bat everything now. Turn it to our advantage, siege mentality and all that and just don't get dragged into anything... or errr... drag any more players.

The embarrassment mainly comes from the owners apparently sacking him and then reinstating him. I'm also amazed that Pearson allowed himself to be reinstated if it is in fact true he was sacked. He doesn't strike me as a man who would want to work without full support and seemingly on borrowed time.
