Does James create anything?

Personally a James fan, thought yesterday was his poorest performance in a while. But like some others have said having to play in a two against a three all year especially with a 34 year old alongside you is tough going in your first year at this level.

Think he will carve out a decent premier league career in the future never a world beater but good enough to fit into a mid table side and do a good job. Get him off corners though.

Which is a bloody good point!

You play him as a DM, and give license to two other midfielders to get forward.

You are right...he's poor in the final third...so play to his strengths.

This box to box midfielder shite has not worked all season.

Pretty much spot on. Keep him back as he's genuinely good at doing that. I think he's decent at winning the ball through intelligent play, he's quite good at retaining the ball in tight spaces defensively and he often makes the right pass as we break. He's absolutely a defensive midfielder for me.

Basically Matt Oakley.

I'm glad we are back to seeing things from the same viewpoint Dan. It's taken some time coming..but I still tend to read most of your posts, and nod...

lol you make good points also but still can't resist a swipe at Cambiasso. Saying that I don't think he's perfect, I think like a lot of our players this season we expose his weaknesses ourselves. Don't put him in positions that requires someone with pace.

Basically Matt Oakley.

Harsh if that's genuine. He's better than Oakley.

His fitness levels are ridiculous the amount of ground he covers in games is silly. Ran 7.4 miles yesterday.

What do you want to do praise them and say what an amazing job they do? makes me cry this forum when people don't criticise players who earn masses and don;t perform.

Would you wait for a meal for ages or hours for a taxi,no you would complain about the shit job there doing.

I spend thousands of pounds following LCFC with the family as do loads of others, why is it wrong to ask what a player does for the team?

Lets  just sing, cheer blah, blah blah, blah there is :scarf:  nothing wrong is there.

Course not, don't be stupid.

We're bottom for many reasons but we're now picking on a player that's probably been one of our better performers this season. Him and Cambiasso work their socks off week in week out but get left badly exposed by our managers poor tactics

I think it's very telling that he's always the one to partner Cambiasso. It makes me wonder how much of a say Cambiasso has in that. When Morgan went off yesterday, he went to give his arm-band to Cambiasso, Cambiasso refused it and pointed straight James. 23 years old and plays with the temperament of someone much older.

It's also a good point that people make about the 2 man midfield. In my opinion, James has to do twice as much work as others on the pitch because he's always doing extra work to compensate for Cambiasso.

You could pick out anyone in the team and say that they've been poor but that doesn't really leave us with much hope for the future. Many times this season he has done his job sufficiently. He's by no means the finished product yet and, like Schlupp, I think we need to give him time. However, as I'm sure we all know, there's no such thing as "giving them time" because relegation is apparently such a disaster, despite the fact that these players are tied to long contracts and are still in the early(ish) days of their career.

Not sure how to get the best out of him (much like our manager). Certainly played better with Drinky. Panics in front of goal, doesnt create goals, score goals etc........does that make him an ineffective centre midfielder, or a defensive one.  Maybe championship standards will see him return to a better light.

In the bigger scheme of this atrocious season and how easy it would be for him to hide, he hasn't.

I'm gonna give the lad some credit and love

Oh yeah him & Stephen Clemence, now those were the good days :D

We had Matt Oakley (and Clemence) when they were both well past their peak. When Oakley was about 26, his excellent form for Southampton led to him being rumoured with a place in the England squad. Nothing materialised in the end but he was definitely an "average" Premier League midfielder in his day.

This is just what we need at this stage of the season..a scapegoat..wellens has not been replaced, this could be the final piece of the jigsaw..

Personally, I don't think we've been the same since Logan picked up his injury in December.

With no assists I guess the answer to the op is no.

He's the best of a bad bunch, excluding cambiasso.

Don't understand the love for Cambiasso.

He's had about 5 good games (a few great) but been average at best on multiple occasions including yesterday.

If he was an English bloke called James everybody would be criticising him.

Our midfield wouldn't be the problem if the opposition were only allowed to play two in there. too busy fighting fires to create anything. If only they had a short 'out ball' to play some triangles. James is PL standard and he may go onto be very decent. at the moment he could hold his own in most bottom half PL outfits.

We miss a player like Izzet real bad. He was tireless, box to box and could pick the ball up and run with it. As well as creating and scoring goals. We really lack that.

He is a jigsaw at times. goes to pieces in the box

Creating should not be his role, he worked so well with Drinkwater last year. He has the energy and he's decent on the ball but drinkwater had the quality in the final third.

I do like James though.

I'd keep him in the team just for his excellent corners.

This. He's practised all season to find the first man and is reaping the rewards.

Though in fairness I don't think anyone that's taken a corner when he's been out of the side has done any better.
