ian_marshall Posted 2 April 2015 Posted 2 April 2015 I have quite a neutral view on the clappers. Don't really see the need to use one myself as I'm quite vocal in my support of the team anyway but one thing I have noticed is that when we have them a lot of the older folk (my old man included) and the kids really get involved, so for me this has to be a positive. I don't get the artificial atmosphere argument. Surely any method which raises the decibel levels inside the ground and encourages inclusion is a positive thing whether those making the noise are singing or using aids. Personally couldn't care less what other teams think considering none of our visitors (except maybe Palace) have set a precedent and led the way in how to create any kind of atmosphere whatsoever. At least we're capable of making noise when we want to whether it be with or without clappers. Admittedly in the ideal world you'd have every man in the ground belting out song after song, but the reality of the situation is that we have a largely ageing supporter base, mixed with a sizeable amount of children, combined with a proportion of followers that have engaged with the club for the first time to experience the delights of the premier league, all set against a backdrop of a season whereby the club has been losing week in week out and are rooted to the bottom of the table. I'm afraid to say that the demographic that are most likely to make noise are sadly in the minority so any way to engage with the majority should be embraced.
Monsell1976 Posted 2 April 2015 Posted 2 April 2015 I couldn't careless about the clappers, won't use mine, but the kids will like them. Hopefully I will be clapping the old fashioned way, if we win, would be nice for a change

The problem for me is that it quite blatantly means they need a prompt. It's a shame everyone doesn't just have the mentality of getting involved anyway. Why save it for classic games like.... West Ham at home?

It's a shame everyone doesn't just have the mentality of getting involved anyway. Why save it for classic games like.... West Ham at home? Virtually every aspect of support by any group of fans exists because one or two individuals 'prompted' it. This is just a tool it still needs a fan to activate it and no doubt a prompt from either some fans or some activity on the pitch to get a lot of people using them. I can't see that it's any worse than the rattle of old. When it comes down to it I think it's more to do with the club supplying them than the actually clappers themselves and yet there's plenty of fans seemingly quite happy to ask the club for a drum, big flag, tifos and statues etc. I'm fairly ambivalent about them myself like most things that fans do some will like and some will hate (Poznan, drum etc.)

I take your point but I don't necessarily believe it's that simple. My old man's days of singing and to some extent clapping for any extended period of time are behind him I'm afraid so the fact that clappers allow him to get involved and generate some noise with relative ease in my eyes is a good thing.

dannythefox Posted 2 April 2015 Posted 2 April 2015 How embarrassing this. We're the laughing stock of the league and now this shite.
fleckneymike Posted 2 April 2015 Posted 2 April 2015 Would of preferred a free scarf tbh. funny you should say that...
purpleronnie Posted 2 April 2015 Posted 2 April 2015 I hope the club have an clap app so the kids on their phones can join in.
SantiagoFox Posted 2 April 2015 Posted 2 April 2015 How would they know what an atmosphere sounds like if those are the things they consider paramount to one? Since when is it their job to create an atmosphere? Our only requirement from the club in that aspect is not to actively discourage and prevent an atmosphere, which is what they have done in the past. The club seem only able to either stop us doing things, or go too far the other way and embarrass us. A lot of clubs have a shit atmosphere at home (especially when they're getting relegated without a whimper) but stuff like clappers really show us up. I'd rather just have our little corner in the Kop making loads of noise than the whole stadium using clappers. If they really wanted an atmosphere where's their intent to publicly back safe standing, or even just, heaven forbid, allow us to show our support for it (Union FS reported the other day that they'd been denied permission to display a 'legalise safe-standing' banner during the game.) That illustrates my point. They're only interested in their type of atmosphere that they're in control of. Spot on. And seeing as most people are lucky enough to have two hands why don't they use them? Maybe they'll take it to the logical extreme for all the 'supporters' who turn up every home game and can't manage to make any supportive noise, and give out a little voice box with approved songs? Only a small step then to a pop up inflatable fan...
Dr The Singh Posted 2 April 2015 Posted 2 April 2015 Look forward to it, I need something to smack the kids with
Walshy5 Posted 2 April 2015 Posted 2 April 2015 Imagine other fans seeing this on motd. It'll just make us look more of a laughing stock than we are already. I would urge people to not use them. Mine will be torn up straight away!
fleckneymike Posted 2 April 2015 Posted 2 April 2015 Whilst attempts to generate an 'atmosphere' are admirable; the consequences are that what ever atmosphere we do currently have is drowned out by the incessant noise of 'clappers' which create an atmosphere akin to the women's FA cup final or a pre season friendly between two youth sides.
LCFC FOX Posted 3 April 2015 Posted 3 April 2015 Paper airplane at the ready, was hilarious when everyone at Wembley started chucking them. They've never had them at an England game since
Claridge Posted 3 April 2015 Posted 3 April 2015 People turning their noses up and taking themselves too seriously is far more embarrassing than a few smiling children playing with some folded-up paper. Been said already but if youre not keen, put yours under your seat and sing. Of course I imagine most of you are too cool to sing and bounce around and try to have a good time etc anyway, so just sit there arms folded in silence as per. Totally disagree why should young kids make silly noises, let the grown ups all go aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah yur shit thats real class and atmosphere. If you went Stoke away and saw Hamers kicking your allowed to sing it obviously

Its not much of an atmosphere if it can be drowned out by a few bits of paper.
Stevosevic Posted 3 April 2015 Posted 3 April 2015 Derby have found themselves an end that stands and we're handing out clappers

With respect, were we ever involved in one of those two sporting occasions, I'd strongly advocate the use of clappers as it might, possibly ... on a good day ... maybe ... just give us enough of an advantage to scrape a win.
Stadt Posted 4 April 2015 Posted 4 April 2015 It's going to spell out #lcfcfamily and #webelieve As part of the King Power choreo
Stevosevic Posted 4 April 2015 Posted 4 April 2015 #lcfcfamily and clappers - just take us to league one
