Knew before today's game Hull would beat Liverpool! Useless scousers.

I don't think Hull are out of it but they will pick up more points.

Every game for us is massive!

Good post Babylon. I'm totally with you on this.

For example, I'd be surprised if Hull don't get something out of tonight's game.

Hulls remaining fixtures are

Arsenal (H)

Burnley (H)

Tottenham (A)

Man Utd (H)

No way are they out of it yet!

Will beat Burnley to relegate them. Will beat Spurs as well, they can be dogshite on their day.

We need to go to the mackems 3 points ahead of them at least. .

One thing in our favour, that gives us a great advantage.........

OUR Nigel loves nothing more that a Dog-fight, hes already 1 up .

A pack of Nigels, will make others barking!!!

Hope Connor Wickham doesn't find his shooting boots again like he did to rescue Sunderland last season!!!....

That's okay as long as Vardy matches him and we get as many points from our remaining fixtures as they do.

I big worry of ours is the state of the rest of the league. Championship sorted, Champions League sorted and no one really is bothered about the Europa League other than Southampton.

It means a lot of the teams around us have been and will be playing teams that aren't particularly motivated. We on the other have 5 fixtures all against teams with a lot to play for.

I can see Hull getting 40 points. I can see Newcastle and Villa getting enough. Looks like it's between us and Sunderland.

Exactly it, this is where the 'easy' run-in bites you on the arse.

We're playing a good chunk of our games against the most highly motivated teams in the division

Thankfully Sunderland's last two games after us are Arsenal away and Chelsea away I think? So as long as we can get to being 3 points ahead of them by the time we play them then it still means we're in the driving seat really.

Unless they do what they did last year and beat Chelsea away!!!!

With QPR and Burnley looking odds on for the drop it's now between us, Sunderland, Hull, Villa and Newcastle for the final relegation place... Could villa be distracted by the FA Cup final?.. Got a feeling Hull will do enough to survive.. Sunderland's run in is scary.. And Newcastle are in freefall... Our game against Sunderland looks to me to be decisive??

Wouldn't be the first team to win the FA Cup and go down.

Hull and Leicester obviously haven't read the script. What is meant to happen is we supposed to be terrible but are saved by them being a little bit terribler (I probably made that word up) and ensure we stay up for another season of agonising terribleness. With their respective resurgences we are now in the bottom three with a fixture list looking tougher by the day.

The next visitors to the Stadium of Light, Southampton, have gone off the boil a bit by their standards with just one win in four but Liverpool's incredibly irritating defeat to Hull last night will surely give them encouragement that European football could still be headed to St. Mary's next season. Their far superior goal difference, largely thanks to us, means they are just a point away from 5th spot.

Everton away looked a decent opportunity not so long ago but now their five games unbeaten, including four wins and are fresh from drubbing Manchester United 3-0 at Goodison. Leicester at home should be considered winnable, but again with their recent form and how we generally fair against relegation rivals at home, three points are far, far, far away from a given. Then the last two games are away to Arsenal and Chelsea, and if we're relying on getting a few points from those fixtures we're relying on another miracle.

What makes this far more testing is the original presumed safety total of 35 or 36 points probably won't be enough anymore. Hull do have a difficult run in but they also play the all but relegated Burnley at home, a win there would see them reach 37 points and, with a better goal difference than us, we would need 38 points to leap frog them. Aston Villa still have three home games remaining with West Ham and Burnley being two of those, should they manage six points in their last four games, which is perfectly pheasible for the FA Cup finalists, that would take them to 38 points, meaning we would probably need 39 points to overtake them unless we were to score a few goals.

If either of those scenarios look unlikely, Leicester have four home games remaining. Two of those are tough, Chelsea and Southampton, whilst the other two are the free-falling Mags and QPR. Again, six points isn't out of the question which would mean, like Hull, we would need 38 points to take over them given their goal difference.

In some twisted chain of events, the team at the moment who feel like our most likely target is actually Newcastle. Such is their horrific form (eight defeats on the bounce), they could well finish the season where they are now on 35 points. Their goal difference isn't much better than ours either, so if we found those two wins we need to give ourselves a chance and the Mags found no more than one point we would probably go above them. Whilst that would be the best thing to happen since Alan Shearer relegating them, they have two decent home games against West Brom and West Ham whilst visiting Leicester and QPR.

All this is assuming that neither Burnley nor QPR jump on the win-games-they-shouldn't band wagon and stay below us, which isn't a given by any means.

It's not over yet though, we fought our way out of a worst position last season and the performance against Stoke proved the fight is there to do it again. Whether or not the ruthlessness to take our chances will accompany that fight in our last five games is the deciding factor.

Hull are not clear yet. No one below Newcastle are safe yet imo

They aren't but they've got a home game against Burnley which if they win will see them clear if you ask me.

Sunderland are the team to finish above. Four hard fixtures and a game against us to save themselves I wouldn't fancy being them.

I can see them beating Burnley at home, and probably getting at least a point from one of the other 3. However, even if they did beat Burnley, three loses out the remaining games could also mean we only need They're only 3 goals better off than us, which could easily turn with a fairly heavy defeat (although that is unlikely for them), we may still only need 3/4 points to finish above Hull.

There are so many pemiatations, e.g. even if Sunderland beat us and Southampton, they could easily lose at Everton, Arsenal and Chelsea, meaning we'd only need 5 points, provided that we maintain our goal difference.

The important thing, of course, is to concentrate on our own fixtures. Nobody knows how many points will keep us safe, but it's certainly in our hands, as it stands. Onwards to tonight, Saturday and so on.

If they beat Burnley at home they'll be on 37 with a reasonable goal difference. That's gonna be enough, Sunderland aren't going to get 8 points.
