Pearson interview

It wasn't Nigel's finest hour but I wouldn't call it bullying. It was silly and unnecessary and I hope he's contrite in the press conference at 2pm. Just on my way down there now.

What's your opinion on the questions being asked? If that was you talking to Nigel at that time, would you have asked him to elaborate on the criticism aimed at the players?

I'm not arsed about this either way. It's almost normal now for Nige to get shirty with the press. However, I think there are some wronguns on here saying that the journo asked a stupid question. Which THIS TIME is complete bollocks.

Nige said he felt his players had come in for a lot of unfair criticism. Journo asked him to clarify what/where the criticism had come from which I think is a valid point because as far as I can recall, pretty much every Newspaper, TV Show and Football Pundit have spent the whole season saying City look good, should be higher in the league, have been unlucky and have a great squad.

This - tbh, it didnt bother me too much. if you keep listening to it, begins to sound a bit like bullying but in context in real time, i rather doubt it was meant that way. the weird thing being that it wasnt a stupid question but  perhaps nigel was in a hurry to get out of there and sort out his plans for saturday which would be changed by the unjury situation.

Let's put this in context shall we.

We've just lost, took 2 injuries and our players are more tired than our opponents on Saturday. Graceful losers are full time losers. You never see Mourinho all chirpy after a loss.

Secondly, when you are in a room with a load of people who have been writing your team off for most of the season and claiming you are dead and buried, you probably wouldn't expect one of them to ask you to go into specifics about the criticism. Nige in the question before already mentioned he didn't want to dwell on it.

Now I'm not saying Pearson didn't over react. He did. But he called him silly, daft and an ostrich. Hardly a scathing or disgraceful attack.

Is there still a place to watch these press-conferences live? Wanna see what he says about it today.

Doubt it will be on. After any controversy the link tends to not work!

He could have told him to FOAD.

I'd wager anyone who has been a genuine victim of bullying would be rather insulted by the suggestion that that constitutes bullying.

Danny Murphy (a bloke who I think often makes sense) made a very valid point this am. Don't look only at what was said, but how it was said. It was a complete put down. The tone came across as vindictive. Not at all light nor amusing.

I'm surprised the club aren't doing something about this (maybe they are?). But then again, I have this niggling feeling that the club don't seem to have the faintest clue how to manage situations like these. It would be interesting to see whether Pearson's line with large parts of the media (effectively say what I choose, how I choose) is the club's line also. Ie whether they agree with this, or not?

Allardyce, speaking at his news conference ahead of West Ham's game against Burnley on Saturday, leapt to the defence of his fellow manager and hit out at the furore created around this latest incident.

"When you are down there dealing with the pressures that come upon in terms of staying in the Premier League, I think it is a huge pressure for everybody to continue to work under that situation and come through it," he said.

"What surprises me is this condescending attitude about what should happen to Nigel that I have been hearing about this morning. People have been talking about bullying and stuff like that -- what a load of rubbish. It's an outburst. Simple as that, plain and simple.

"But I listen to the world of the media and sometimes it really does baffle me what they come out with in terms of what he should or shouldn't be doing."

Haha I listen to talk sport as well! Slipped up here!! He also said sticks and stones and then refused to waste time talking about the story as it wasn't newsworthy followed by a "derogatory" remark made by Colin Murray about press organisations. Context!!!

What a legend. Is he right though... I can't remember much criticism of the players, maybe a bit of the team collectively and criticism of pearson from local press and our own fans, everybody else seemed to think he was doing a decent enough job!

The press now just know to try and push his buttons. They ask him questions they know he won't answer just to wind him up, although in this case I'm not sure if he Pearson has just assumed the guy was taking the piss when he possibly wasn't.

The fact it's one of the main headlines on SSN just goes to show what a joke football is these days, having said that...

NP Press conference at 2:30pm on SSN!

Pearson is paid a large salary.  One small thing he has to do is represent the club intelligently to the world (via the press) and to the fans (including those denied games by inflated gate prices). I am amazed at the support he is getting in this thread (blimey – you really want him as your “uncle”!)

To get a different perspective, try looking at the reactions to this interview on Youtube or Twitter – the club is being made at best a laughing stock. It is certainly loosing a lot of sympathy it had enjoyed in press and social media.

At last one of the press reports has leaked out the widely rumoured theory that the tired and emotional Person is not fully sober during these episodes

I think the club know exactly how to handle this situation and that’s behind closed doors. The club doesn’t need to publically intervene. It’s not like Pearson has committed a crime. He’s just made a big tit of himself, and embarrassed the club in the process. I’m sure that his bosses will be telling him that he’s a tit and to stop being a tit. But talk of intervention and apologies is over the top.

At the end of the day, if we beat Neecastle on Saturday this will all be forgotten and everyone will be wearing ostrich costumes for the Sunderland game.

Love the way that people are now making the assumption that he must be drunk, lol

Get ****ing real.

Do you think he sips from a little hip-flask on the sideline?

Sneaks off down the tunnel early and pops up to the 1884 bar and has a few shots before doing his interviews?

Honestly, I feel sorry for people that buy into this shit.

HE MUGGED OFF A REPORTER SO HE MUST BE DRUNK.

Alright then.

Don't know why they've stopped putting these on youtube - used to enjoy watching them.

If Pearson responded to you in the same sort of way, how would you react? Do journalists usually take that sort of reaction on the chin and move on?

No tweets coming out from the press conference, I'm guessing the club have banned live updates again like they did last time. No youtube link either.

Don't know why they bother as whatever gets said will still get reported.

Mountain out of a molehill, Pearson doesn't like journalists and journalists don't like Pearson. Not the first time something like this has happened and won't be the last either. People are reporting about the club negatively? Who gives a toss? I don't, anyone can say anything they like about us, as long as we get the three points on a Saturday afternoon.

Either that or the cleaners are going to have a hell of a job cleaning that room later.

I may be wrong and I can imagine the pressure that gets to managers sometimes can be pretty intense- I think I read quoted from another manager before that when you do press conferences you are actually there for over an hour and it's not just the same journalist that interview you, maybe Nige is sick of the same questions that have no back up to them?

But... Have we underestimated Pearson? When Mourinho and co do something we call them geniuses and protecting their team, no one is talking about how deflated our team must be now or how that's stopped our run is the pressure back on again etc just about how Nige has gone on a rant.

Lost the plot or protecting his players to keep them focused?
