cc_star Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Since when have fans turned into bean counters? The only thing that matters to us with regards to a player's remuneration is the sustainability of the club, so a relegation clause is all that surely matters If the manager thinks it will improve the squad, then what's the issue. The list of the management's successes in the transfer market Vs flops shouldn't give people cause for concern
Bettsj2 Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I like the idea of paying him £50k a week. Sends the right message to everyone.
RowlattsFox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I wouldn't be surprised if the rest of the squad have had wage increases based on survival, particularly the ones who signed contract extensions last year.
hackneyfox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 But you tried it in a side which has, in my opinion, very little quality. The Premier league has been as weak as it ever has, and as a result the championship has become even weaker. Watford got automatic promotion with a side far worse than that which pipped us to the play-off final a few years back. For what it is worth, i would trust Pearson with signings far greater than most managers in this country today. His record for us is quite frankly unmatched by any other side, with the possible exception of the saints. In a wide position he would be behind schlupp, albrighton and Fuchs anyways.....whereas he would also be behind mahrez and nugent for the center forward slot. Sako would have to prove his worth here, he wouldn't get on the bench if we start like we finished last season. I doubt we are signing a player who at 27 won't even get on the bench. Certainly wouldn't be paying 50k to be a squad player.
hackneyfox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 We all know Pearson will not pay that....So why are we still arguing about it? Maybe 30k with bonuses based on survival/games/goals/assists etc.....Which is fair enough. Do you know what NFP is willing to pay or are you just guessing.Would we not be paying more than 30k a week now we are entering a second season in the premier? Won't be staying in it for long if we don't start matching the salaries of teams around us.

As long as we don't go QPR/Leeds silly, all the conccern should be on whether he's a good player or not.
hackneyfox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Look, you don't know what any of them are earning and you don't know what Sako is being offered. Cambiasso could already be on 60k for all we know. No!!!Cambiasso is on 30k, someone's mates girlfriend told him so he's itk.
Number 6 Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Admittedly I'm no expert on this but won't the weekly wages be much more complex than a single weekly figure? Appearance bonuses, win bonuses, goal bonuses, clean sheet bonuses etc. Then a survival bonus and potential increases on the back of it. They're all on a decent chunk of money which I suspect varies week to week and has huge bonuses for success.
Bamba's Babes Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Boring. Searching for info and all you get is people whinging about a topic they are not qualified to talk about or have no idea what is actually going on.
ScouseFox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 paying him 50k a year would've upset me, let alone a week.
Danno Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Boring. Searching for info and all you get is people whinging about a topic they are not qualified to talk about or have no idea what is actually going on. Yeah let's close the forum then.
conLAD logan Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 Think we can finally all agree no one knows who's earning what and that's that. ****ing finally!
fleckneymike Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I'm not sure you scout someone heavily, think he's good enough to sign and then worry about shifting him on. Even if you did, the fact is he's an asset and we can now claim a fee for him should we wish to sell him on. You might take a hit in terms of wages, but even if you got a £3m fee for him that's £29,000 a week over two years you could sub his wages and not lose out. He's worth £3m easily of anyone's money on what he has done in the championship alone. I would hope that every player we sign has a plan in place to both retain and release them.

The list of the management's successes in the transfer market Vs flops shouldn't give people cause for concern Ever since the disaster that was our relegation from the Premier League and our period in administration. The decade it took to repair that damage saw us flirt for a prolonged period with mediocrity. It took the intervention of a billionaire to return the club to where we'd been, we didn't repair ourselves, we didn't have an infrastructure in place to minimise the damamge, we just had the good fortune to find some supporters who bailed us out long enough for an opportunistic Serb to get us on the cheap. Relegation, even if one has billionaire benefactors, is still a disaster if the league get their way with FFP, needlessly paying excessive wages for average players is not something I'd welcome.

If fans want the club to stay in the division, they cant shit themselves every time we look to pay a premium for a player whether it be in a transfer fee or wages. Administration hurt, of course it did. But back then was a different ball game. If the board had done the right thing back then and appointed someone who knew what they were doing, we wouldnt have been in trouble. One bad appointment fvcked us.
Babylon Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I would hope that every player we sign has a plan in place to both retain and release them.Having a plan in case of relegation is one thing, planning to shift someone if they turn out shit!?! How exactly do you do that, we'll get nowhere not giving good contracts just incase they turn out crap. The scouts do the work to minimise them actually being shit, that's their job.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 I still don't agree I don't agree that you don't agree
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 16 June 2015 Posted 16 June 2015 If Nige thinks he's good enough then he's good enough. in Nigel we trustErrm something like this yes

Just as we have a list of players (and managers) who would make suitable replacements for any player I'd hope we also have good working relationships with certain key clubs and agents the enables us to offload players. Any director of football worth his salt would begin to look at potential suitors for players who are entering the final 24-18 months of their deal as well as looking to renogiate. If you look at what we did to poor old Bolton over Beckford, Danns and Mills (or what Steve Bruce repeatedly did to us with N'Gotty, Clemence, DJ Campbell and Waghorn) then we clearly have 'ins' with certain people/places which helps us move players on/in.
Guest Posted 17 June 2015 Posted 17 June 2015 Can't understand why the amount of wages changes whether he'll be a good player for us. It's not even your money guys.
