hackneyfox Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 I know players are stupid, but I'm sure they realise that someone out of contract can demand more than some who isn't. Due to the fact there is no fee involved.Which surely makes the salary cap pointless?Which is why I was questioning whether we had one. If we brought in a player on a free who was worth 5m that would save 32k a week which is close to our supposed cap.
Babylon Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Which surely makes the salary cap pointless? Which is why I was questioning whether we had one. I don't know if we have one, if we do I very much doubt it's been a set in stone we WILL NOT pay more than 30k or whatever. More of a ball park area. Even if we did have one, we don't know if it would still be in place for our second year. Perhaps it goes up? Who knows.
Callabinho Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 What people need to understand is that the club don't look at deals in terms of £ per week. They put deals together based on a number of things but principally how much a player will cost over the length of the contract. For example, let's say Sako comes on a free transfer and gets £50k per week on a 3 year deal = total is £7.8m. If he cost us a £3.5m transfer fee (not unreasonable) and £30k pw wages = total is £8.1m. It's better to look at the full package rather than worrying if Player X is worth £X per week on a free. In my humble opinion, Sako would be a more than decent addition to the squad. It's nice when people post things they actually know things about!

Basically my take on it but some of the itks on here are happy to claim that nobody is on more than 35k a week.I wouldn't tell anyone my salary if I believed they would then try and gain kudos by posting it on the internet so I've never believed these claims but a few get quite upset should you ever question them. Would certainly hope that it will go up in year 2 if we do actually have one. If Top wants a top 10 finish then we have to accept that we may need to start paying well in excess of 50k a week to attract quality players.
Alex_LCFC Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Can't see a free player earning more money just because the club got him on 3
Bluearmyfox28 Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Can't see a free player earning more money just because the club got him on 3 Of course they do. The player's agents know that the club haven't got to pay a transfer fee therefore it already works out a cheaper alternative for the buying club therefore the agent pushes for higher contracts & the buying clubs are willing to cough up the bit extra if they really want that specific player.

Merging Cultures Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 They pay a signing on fee to offset the "lower" wages.
The Bear Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 We can get better than Sako on a free or on the cheapSuch as...?
Callabinho Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 It amazes me how some people are quick to rubbish Sako considering the success Bolasie has had in the PL, both similar players and Sako has been much more effective in the championship than Bolasie was. Get him playing consistently and he would be a bargain for anyone. He has the attributes to be a top player, just needs the right kind of management.
4everfox Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 We can get better than Sako on a free or on the cheap Have you ever seen Sako play? My suspicion would be no.
dylanlegend Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 I think he'll be a decent signing. I don't agree with the "full package" argument though. The main issue with offering him high wages is it could upset more established players in our squad who may think they deserve a higher contract. Is he really worth being our top earner if it unsettles the squad!?!?
ScouseFox Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Such as...? I'll fvcking join for free and would settle for fifty quid a week and be better

foxoffderby Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 I'm not a football agent however as Babs and MR RS have stated its about the total package and not about salary caps as such. In some cases paying the wages for a player on a free is lower in the course of a contract than paying a transfer fee, agent fees bonuses such as appearance, goal bonuses and shirt sales for example. Some might say paying a player X amount a week is nonsense but it may work out cheaper overall in the long run.

Some win others don't.
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Some might say paying a player X amount a week is nonsense but it may work out cheaper overall in the long run. Correct, but some don't see the bigger picture, they just look at the alleged wage per week
sylofox Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Anyway... Where would he play? At the KP when we are at home.
Charl91 Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 At the KP when we are at home. And the opposing teams stadium when we're away. - Michael Owen.
FoxLAD Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 I'd think he'd be a great signing. But my only problem.. where would he play? can't see him as a LWB. Unless nige is planning to change the formation?
Scotch Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Anyway... Where would he play? I've been wondering the same. If he signs,I'm assuming he would be looking to play most weeks,as will Fuchs and Schlupp has earned his spot,so that's 3 left sided players competing for one spot (going by our current system). If he does sign,it could mean one of the following.... Pearson may be looking at playing another tactic. Maybe with four at the back and more traditional wingers... Jeff could be of to Arsenal as reported (I doubt this tbh).... Sako may be deployed in a more advanced position like striker or maybe in the whole behind the strikers.... Fuchs could be used on the left of the back three or possibly in CM (he is know for his passing after all).... Whatever one it is, I trust Nige knows what he's doing. I personally quite like Sako and would like to see him come in.
Stadt Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 A figure of 50k is concerning (not that it would happen anyway) because if for whatever reason he turns out to be a dick, falls out with people, wants to leave (unlikely, I know) all of a sudden we're stuck with him because no one will offer the money he wants, potentially you end up with a Gallagher situation with a sizeable chunk of the wage bill squandered. The chances of it happening are slim but a championship winger, admittedly a good one, shouldn't and won't be commanding that sort of dollar.
RedSoxUK Posted 9 June 2015 Posted 9 June 2015 Signing Sako would be a risk, can't even see him getting into a 3-4-1-2 formation because Wolves' own have constantly criticised his right foot weakness, and Jeff should be owning that spot on the left, and Fuchs solidifies Jeff's opportunities in more attacking situations. 4 - 4 - 2 should also on paper see Schlupp playing ahead of Sako, I can't foresee a situation where Schlupp is left on the bench in a 4 - 4 - 2, unless Pearson and the coaching staff overate Schlupp's ability as an attacking winger and are viewing him as a utility player. Premier League unproven like many of our players from last season, that's fine with me because Sako is highly rated at Wolves and in the Championship, perhaps playing ahead of his level. Would definitely take Sako if Pearson truly believes he will be an asset to the squad, and offer 1st team competition for Jeff / possibly Mahrez if Sako can improve his right foot, another cut-inside winger from the right could be interesting, seeing as Sako does have skill and some power, the power which Mahrez lacks from time to time. Wouldn't read much into the wages, seeking 80k and us apparently offering 50k is agent bullshit to me, it's doing the player more damage than good to seek, or have an agent seek high wages for an unproven Premier League player. The fact he's on a free shouldn't pressure clubs into offering him a fat wage, Everton, Newcastle, and WBA even seem to have looked the other way because the wage valuation of the player is far off the mark from their own valuation, and they feel they can find better or equivalent for cheaper. If Sako wants to play Premier League, he's going to have to accept a much lower offer than what he seems to want, and it does raise massive questions as to what this player wants at the age of 27, if he just wants to be recognised and play in the PL on a big wage, then i'd rather him sign for someone else. Can't see us offering him more than 35k-40k with a few bonuses.
