Jimothy Posted 16 August 2015 Posted 16 August 2015 As in? It's not like news have never been posted on Foxestalk before. Apologies for not being precise enough when mentioning Hamer's league debut. News does get reported, but most people feel they can just write for instance, "1-0 Arsenal. Great goal by Giroud". For some reason you feel you have to put something like "Arsenal take the lead at Selhurst Park. Olivier Giroud opens the scoring. The Frenchman volleying in Ozil's cross." It's a foxestalk post not a newspaper article.

AKCJ Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Too much queefing going on in this thread for my liking.
promised land Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 Who do Derby think they are, just seen on east Mids today they all arrived for their home game against Charlton on a coach in suits with ties. So they stay in a hotel around the county the night before, a bit OTT for a championship club, they're hardly Manchester City.

A play and coaching staff team at the hotel I worked at when I was younger would cost you about 4/5 grand. I wouldn't think that's out of the budget for a side that costs millions.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 17 August 2015 Posted 17 August 2015 I'd want them in suits, play with suave my friend.
Jimothy Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 £9m bid for Andre Grey from Bristol City accepted. Madness. Find an extra £6m and you can have a proven premier league goalscorer in Austin.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 He's not even good either. mental stuff that
Wymsey Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 That kind of money means Gray must score very often, and take Bristol City up, to justify that.
Asha Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 £9m for Andre Gray lol I remember watching him a few years ago for Luton and thinking "Yeah.. he's alright" £9m though
EnderbyFox Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Think Luton will receive 1.5mil of that. Great business for them
FrankieWorthoYaggedMyWife Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 makes Nugent look very shrewd business. They are pretty much doing the same as we did in 2011 with Jelavic, Maynard, Long and Beckford
Dan Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 The Championship's gone as mad as the Premier League in terms of what you're actually getting for your money. Absolutely ridiculous money.
Soar Fox Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Makes the Nugent & Wood prices look very cheap as both will get you 15 goals.
RonnieTodger Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Absolutely obscene. Is that what a decent Championship goalscorer costs now? I had no idea he played for Hinckley a few years ago.
Super_horns Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 It is a good example of why teams do look abroad for better value players (doesn't always work I know)
Corky Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 The Championship's gone as mad as the Premier League in terms of what you're actually getting for your money. Absolutely ridiculous money. And we can afford it in the Premier League (just about). If some of these clubs don't go up after these gambles it's a hell of a risk to the future. Surely clubs will fail FFP without promotion?
Grandad. Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 £9 million for a Championship player to a newly promoted club from League One? Games gone.
StanSP Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Obscene amount to spend. Apparently Fulham are going to bid £5m for Lewis Dunk of Brighton. £5m?!?!
J.Lisemore Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 Feel sorry for the player to be honest, stupid transfer fees spent by mediocre clubs just leads to unnecessary pressure, and if he turns out anything like Beckford, it will weaken him.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 It is a good example of why teams do look abroad for better value players (doesn't always work I know) It's an example of Championship clubs panicking and not knowing how to do business properly - how much did Afobe cost Wolves? £2 million or so? And his resale value is going to be huge; there's definite value in the English markets but it tends to be picking up young players deemed surplus to requirements from the typically bigger clubs or sifting through the lower leagues. Drinkwater cost us 750k and practically ran the division in 13/14. And we can afford it in the Premier League (just about). If some of these clubs don't go up after these gambles it's a hell of a risk to the future. Surely clubs will fail FFP without promotion? And Bristol City won't be going up either, it's an absolutely ridiculous move from them and a sideways move at best for Gray. McCormack written all over it.

Drinkwater cost us 750k and practically ran the division in 13/14. this is true is this. some of our deals in the last 5 years or so were superb (ignoring obvious mills/beckford). eg. nuge for free, our main midfield duo in our ridiculous winning season for what, 1.5mill all in? vardy for a mill etc etc, all english, mostly young and probably pieced together the main parts of the best team the divisions seen for a decade at least for less than half of andre fvcking gray.
NewburyFox Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 In Bristol City's (very slight) defence, Gray is a cracking player. He reminds me of Vardy - former non-league player with pace, power, a nightmare for defenders and with good movement too. He'll be in the Premier League soon. They'll throw money at him but even so I'm not sure he'll move, it is a sideways move and I wouldn't have much confidence in a manager who's saying that his team have a four month hangover after winning League 1. He'll have better teams than Bristol City after him, just depends if they're willing to stump up the millions.

He can remind you of bloody Messi but no Championship player should be transferring to another Championship club for £9million.
iamafox Posted 18 August 2015 Posted 18 August 2015 The Football League have to do something about this. The FFP rules are not strict enough imo, you just cannot let Championship clubs continue to splash out fortunes of money on players and get away with it.
