Did the city tour a couple of weeks ago and the guide claimed a new stand was already being contstucted off site and would be bought in in sections at the end of the season.

Not sure personally as I couldn't find this information anywhere and still can't.

Can see at happening tho at some stage

Would make sense to build off site if apparently we have all the infrastructure in place..

(i have no idea how all the jigsaw fits together though) lol

This doesn't sound at all plausible to me. From a logistical point of view I'm not aware of any other stadium expansion being built in this way. Plus as already pointed out, we do not have permission to expand the stadium and there is no guarantee at all that we would get it even if we applied.

Did the tour guide get suitably banged afterwards?

Can't remember ever seeing one, but I can. believe it Just that the thought of it really made me laugh for some reason :D

Come to think of it it might have been quite a few years back. I think it's route was to bradgate park and back past the space centre lol. It was around the time there was an old bus pulled by an horse going round the city centre.

Haven't followed the thread. Is there any movement within the club to expand it, and if so, when, and how many seats? Assuming we achieve CL status, need 50,000.

I don't think any of us know whether the club are currently considering it, although it doesn't look like planning permission has been submitted.

If it does happen, it will almost certainly be an extra 10,000 seats on the East stand to start with, as the stadium was designed with that in mind. If we were to expand further in the future, it would probably be the family stand and/or the Kop, as the West stand would be the hardest and most expensive to expand.

I notice the land behind the east stand has been sold, anyone know if that's anything to do with us?

If you read back a page, yes. Yes it is to do with us we own the land. Fans village will be built on the site. Holiday inn will have a casino on it too when the lease is up. We own everything...

Ahh, that's the nation grid site? I was thinking it was across the road were the car park is. Thanks.

I think the timescales involved in any expansion are always going to make the owner cautious. The risk is that by the time the plans come to fruition, the “demand” may have changed.

A case in point, is Cardiff’s expansion. Their chairman announced in June 2012 (I think) that they were going to expand the stadium to 35,000 (from just under 27,000). In the event, it ended up with a capacity of 33,280 at a cost of around £ 12,000,000.That’s an additional 6,452 seats at a an expenditure or around £ 1860 per seat.

Work began on site around November of 2013 and construction took place pretty quickly once it got going with the new steel framework being constructed “behind” the existing stand. At the end of the season, the roof was removed and the project was then completed by the start of the 2014-2015 season, by which time of course, Cardiff had been relegated.

In terms of the architecture, I think the projects are comparable. Logistically then the framework could go up during the (next) season and work completed during the summer.

But as we know, no planning application has been made public so far and the problems with parking and traffic could yet prove to be significant obstacles to planning being granted.

No it's not.

If we have a decent season next season maybe they'll submit a planning application. Then it will probably be a while before its passed and work starts.

So don't hold ya breath.....especially if newts are nearby.

Shame they are holding off on this expansion idea

I really think we are missing a trick

Hey ho
