Leicester in talks with Claudio Ranieri to become new manager.

Former Chelsea and Greece manager is club's No1 target to take over from Nigel Pearson

It only says they're in talks. It would be criminal if they didn't speak to him after such a high profile manager expressed interest.

If there's truth in there being 'complications' over O'Neill's exit, then I'd be curious as to what they were. Compensation? Did he want to bring Keane? Were the FAI keen on a job-share? If I were O'Neill I'd move mountains to take what could well be my last chance to manage at this level. If I were the board, and they believed him to be the number one target, then I'd do the same.

Would be a great appointment IMO. An extremely likeable guy too. He also sounds (and looks a little) like Robin Williams.

Well looking a bit like robin williams is the clincher for me......fook me..... Im underwhelmed, old sweat who has been around the track too many times... just another payday before he gets sacked again and then retires... who the fook cares if he's a nice guy?

I have posted a couple of times that I just don't see MON as the type of person to leave a job whilst it is still ongoing (and ongoing badly). tbh, had they qualified, I could see him leaving but not as they are. word was that the FAI offered a job share (at least till they couldn't qualify) and we said no.

Think he has high win percentages at most clubs, and done relatively well... Greece, where just pants. We aren't champions league so people shouldn't expect Klopp or someone like him

I can sense a Pearson third term commencing come Christmas!

I don't feel or see the fit of Ranieri and Leicester. I hope to be wrong, but I'm kind of meh! about the potential appointment - although truth be told most of the names touted would have drawn a similar reaction from me.

I don't follow European football in the slightest, so my opinion of him has always been one of him being a bit of a joke (he's called the tinkerman for gods sake). But his win ratio is actually pretty decent at all his clubs I notice. Difficult to judge on that alone though as many have been big clubs with good budgets.

Rubbish manager Ranieri! won the super cup with valencia the season after another manager had won the uefa cup to get them there.  won french second divsion spending £100m with monaco and the won serie c! We've downgraded from Pearson big time if this is true!

Ranieri has anexcellent record and is a perfectly good manager for our level

Dunno what to think. He did well with Juventus. The Greece job puts me off, mind, I mean who gets sacked from Greece!? Seems to spend a bit of money, too.

It says something for the state of our owners and recruitment process that he has been contacted only after putting out a big shout out.

It seems obvious that he was not first choice either.

hes the italian version of Harry Redknapp! Spend spend spend and leave a year later with the club in a mess! Get on the phone to bielsa before its toooo late

Thought we had learned the lesson...smacks of a panic appointment when the top candidates wouldn't or couldn't come...old rule never get somebody who is touting for the job....

Greece have higher expectations than what their actual status is, basically they are crap

I don't know, his CV is pretty impressive and he may well do a fantastic job with us. Certainly we should all get fully behind him if he's the man.

That said, I'm still reluctant to read too much into it. I'd fully expect us to speak to Ranieri and entertain him as a serious candidate, it certainly doesn't mean that he's our number one target, that the FAI problems are insurmountable, nor that there are no other contenders for the job waiting to be spoken to.

Ranieri is a good man manager and kept a happy ship at Chelsea. Good fit for Leicester me thinks.
