Guest Col city fan Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Having been brought up as a City fan firstly under Little, then MON I have to admit I love O'Neil. Similar I guess to how some of our younger fans respect Pearson. I loved his energy, his passion and his signings. He's older and not the manager he once was I suspect. But with all the names mentioned, this is the one that excites me the most. I'd love to see the great man back at City. One thing I would say..IF the Thais are wanting a 'yes man', a puppet so to speak, MON is NOT that. He can be a fiery bloke and don't expect all media plesantry with him. He is a pretty direct talker and says it how he sees it. For the first time in weeks, I'm excited at this prospect.
ramboacdc Posted 10 July 2015 Author Posted 10 July 2015 Wasn't the name I was told yesterday but like I originally said ive no clue on number of candidates or other interviews i love this guy...waits for the perfect moment then causes a storm!
lgfualol Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Wasn't the name I was told yesterday but like I originally said ive no clue on number of candidates or other interviews I'll send you £20000 for his name
Deucalion Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of O'Neill. One thing which always impressed me about MON was his intelligence. I find it hard to believe he would be left behind by football. Someone who had time to study law while being a professional footballer is not someone who will not do his homework. And on an emotional level... Martiiiin...Martin O'Neill !!!
Nick Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 So Top drops a grand with four different Irish bookies, throws us off the scent and sends the odds into meltdown whilst he prepares to place 10K on the man he interviews in London tomorrow at 25-1. Gotta respect that.
My Nads Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 The only name mentioned that would have been better was Klopp, and that was totally unrealistic ... this is fantastic I agree with this. Anyone other than Klopp (who isn't realistic at all), would have a huge problem of being hated for not being Nige. The first time he did something that didn't work out and it's not what Nige would have done, then booing would start and the moral would collapse and the team would fall apart. It would be horrible to watch, but most of us know that's what would happen. Martin O'Neill is the only manger that wouldn't happen to. We wouldn't boo him so readily (this time) as most other managers we've been linked with. I'm a massive Pearson fan and I'm gutted they sacked him, but MO would be a fantastic replacement. Forget what he was like at Sunderland blah blah blah...He had some personal problems, but coming would get him going again. I for one would be ecstatic if he came back. MO is a great motivator and he knows what he is doing. Have you lot forgotten that Izzet was a MO player? We played a long ball game back then because it's what suited the players and budget we had at the time. MO would play in a similar way Pearson with the team, he;s not stupid! So people, if MO does come back get behind him because he's the best we could hope for and the club would be in safe hands. I'm amazed how many of you think it would be a bad thing to bring him back!! All this crap about the games moved on! That's bollocks! 90's football was every bit if not better than it is now. The stadiums and the wages have improved, but not the football.
monsgon Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Do they have a franchise of La Manga in Thailand - whole host of possibilities for next scandal

We deserve to be in administration again!
The Horse's Mouth Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 and how much did the top 4 spend and how much were their current squad worth compared to Villa's squad when MON took over. You can twist facts as much as you like but he did a very good job with Villa. I've not twisted any facts, it's what happened.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 I've not twisted any facts, it's what happened. It is, but you didn't identify why he couldn't get them top four, despite spending and only managing top six finishes three times ... and then when he leaves, Villa are back to fighting relegation . What he achieved was impressive giving what the big clubs spend
My Nads Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 If the fans boo our manager 'for not being Nigel' after seeing what happened with/because of their support at the end of last year.... We deserve to be in administration again! You could see it happening though couldn't you?
Guest kristianity77 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 I've not twisted any facts, it's what happened. But what DID the teams above Villa spend is the question. If they spent more, than how did MON fail realistically? Thats like saying that Pearson blew 20 million last season and its a failure because he didn't finish top 10. When all of the top 10 probably had better teams to begin with and spent more than we did. So you are twisting facts to fit with whatever agenda you see fit.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 He spent money at Villa but he had success. You have to spend 6-7 fold what he did at Villa to break in to the top 4.

What he achieved was impressive giving what the big clubs spend the reason they regressed afterwards was because the money had gone and they had to cut their cloth, no coincidence he left because he couldn't keep the likes of Young there.

Like spending even 150 million quid will get you close to the likes of Manchester United or Arsenal when they already have squads worth hundreds of millions. Man City have spent over a billion quid since the owners took over, haven't they?

He spent more than Wenger around that time easily
Carlos88LCFC Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 You could see it happening though couldn't you?It is very likely to happen, yes.I'm at the conclusion now that the bookies, the news & anyone else who claims that they are 'ITK' actually know fvck all! A statement saying 'Leicester are interested in O'Neill' from some idiot at sky is what we are going off!! Who told Rob Dorsett of this interest before they told Ireland? Have you thought, sky control sports news and they are also one of biggest sports betting companies out there now. Let's throw loads of random names out in the news and claim to be 'ITK' get loads of people betting on what they know is bollocks! It's a win for them.
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Now you would have to, not back then Just completely negates the importance of being already established at the top. Since SKY ruled the roost if you're at the top you stay at the top. Money walks shit talks.
Grey Fox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 I think the doubters are right. Who in their right minds would want MON back. I couldn't stand any more of this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02wr7w8
The Guvnor Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Can't take any serious notice of the bookies at this time, money always flies in for O'Neill when we are without a manager, and to be honest I'm not sure he would be the best option for us now.
dayday Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Just read a few pages and jeez there is some shit posted on here. I would have thought Martin O'Neill to Leicester is like Cloughie to forest, how wrong can I be Your Hiddinks and Klopps don't to come to Leicester,we get who we can, that's our profile of a club. With Martin you know what you are going to get,a hard working organised team, who will fight to the end. Arguably the best manager we have ever had,and he gets this stick,F off and support some one else
pazzerfox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Wasn't the name I was told yesterday but like I originally said ive no clue on number of candidates or other interviews Can you give us his initials? Then we can try and work it out without you actually telling us!

Guest kristianity77 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 He spent more than Wenger around that time easily He most probably did. But I'd wager that before O'Neill started spending money Wenger had a considerly better side to begin with. End of the day, if O'Neill spent 120 million whilst at Villa and got 6th, 6th, 6th in a row, thats still probably about as good as it was going to get.
