STUHILL Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 I am open to his return. Sunderland and Ireland haven't been great but he is better than a lot of other names we have been linked to and you don't suddenly become a bad manager. I think he still has one more success in him and it could be with us. I don't think he would rejoin us although Ireland wouldn't be that fussed to see him go and he may feel he has a point to prove back in the Prem and who else would give him that chance again? My biggest concern with this though.... Roy Keane following him.. Aghhhhhhhhh
RedSoxUK Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Steve Walford... and the likes of Danny Graham & Wes Brown Marko Futacs... and the likes of Zoumana Bakayogo & Danny Simpson It's almost impossible for a manager / scouting team to get it right 100%
AKCJ Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Wes Brown was a regular for a Champions League and title winning team and Danny Graham had a productive first season in the Premier League after scoring a load in the Championship. Hindsight is 20/20.
ramboacdc Posted 10 July 2015 Author Posted 10 July 2015 Can't imagine him inspiring Asian football supporters.. maybe they are thinking of the English fans here. "sorry we sacked your 2nd most successful manager...we have replaced him with your most successful!"
TheMightySystem Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 http://www.theguardian.com/football/2015/jul/10/republic-ireland-martin-oneill-leicester-city-job?CMP=share_btn_tw Says that ROI are ready to allow MON to leave international job to join us. Also says the Roy Keane will become manager of the national side so i dont think he will join as assistant manager
ealingfox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Could MON join, and still do the Irish job? All Ireland's remaining games in Sept & Oct take place during the international window, therefore avoiding our fixtures. He's always intended to return to the Prem, and his contract expires later this year Kev Phillips played for him at Villa. Roy Keane would take over as the Irish boss. Ireland's games take place in the international window? You sure?
foxes_rule1978 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 He didn't do a bad job at Sunderland, finished 13th and apart from one season when they were 10th since they got back in the PL that equals their highest finish... just expectations too high their and unwarranted... like at villa... finishing sixth wasn't good for them, but look at them now
Will1981 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Seeing Parker on the touchline would send me all a-quiver. he is a painter and decorator now maybe he can re-paint the KP.
Strokes Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 That's where I am with MoN, that pace flair & one touch football last season was fantastic. Hopefully whoever is in charge will maintain that. It's no surprise we could beat teams playing like that You are agreeing with lcfcsnow, get a grip man.
foxes_rule1978 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 The worst jobs are Villa, Sunderland, Spurs, Newcastle and West Ham... all have expectations way beyond their actual standing... so whatever you achieve there you get no credit
RizLCFC Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Can Albert or Qwerty confirm if his was the interview mentioned yesterday? Or if there are other names in the mix?
Simmo86 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 All depends on if we keep Shakey and Walsh for me. They need to stay.
STUHILL Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Don't quite get the people saying he is a bad manager and past it. He had a not great spell at Sunderland and Ireland hasn't been great but both teams are hardly the easiest to get results from. Everywhere else he has been a great success. He had 80 wins to 50 losses as Aston Villa Manager and was only a fall out with owner that saw him leave there. He knows the club, has Prem experience and would suit our style. Still not my first choice but really don't get the strong opposition to him.
adamkhalifa Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 O'neill Manager Shakespeare Assitant manager Walford First team coach Walsh Scout A bit of both maybe..
st albans fox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 What I think is happening here is that the FAI has been sounded our re allowing him to leave his contract early That is standard practice if you are thinking about employing someone but it doesn't mean you have decided to do it. Suspect word got out in Dublin - a few people think there could be a few quid in it for a reasonable risk and hey presto - market closed and we think its a done deal
Brenfox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 International management is a whole different thing. To an extent you cannot bring in your own players & have to pick from a select few. Would Mourinho make San Marino successful? No because the players at his disposal are crap & there's nothing he can do about it.

Nick Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Interesting article from last year - his record at Villa certainly doesn't deserve the disrespect of the fans? http://metro.co.uk/2014/11/13/why-has-martin-oneill-never-reached-his-potential-as-a-manager-4943367/
dylanlegend Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 O'neill Manager Shakespeare Assitant manager Walford First team coach Walsh Scout A bit of both maybe.. Very good set up that would be with KP also retained as coach
Steve_Guppy_Left_Foot Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Given the names out there I'd be chuffed with this. the chants of 'Martin O'Neills blue and white army' will get the old spine tingling, for sure.
dylanlegend Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 When O'Neill had success he had john Robertson as assistant do you think he could be talked back as well?
Nickfosse Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Really struggling with the negative response, and the don't go back comments. It's a good job Chelsea didn't take that view with Mourinho or ourselves with NP Nartin O'Neill gave me the most wonderful memories as Leicester supporter on a shoe string. I'd love to see him back with us.
Grey Fox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Ian Stringer @StringerSport 16m16 minutes ago I have to say, of all the names linked with the #LCFC position so far, this 1 seems most likely #MONday hashtag credit @SharmoJourno
