Fox92 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 He knew the Premier League. Like most things, if you stay away for years, you will come back and it will be different. Plus he isn't as motivational and bouncy as he used to be is he? This has Kenny Dalgleash's last Liverpool stint written all over it. League Cup win then?
ramboacdc Posted 10 July 2015 Author Posted 10 July 2015 A question for the bookies out there, theoretically could I find out Di Matteo has been interviewed today, the place a large bet and circulate the information about another candidate in this case O'Neil as his odds come in and Di Matteo go out then place a huge bet on Di Matteo after manufacturering the odds a little? a little but the bookies talk to eachother. a large bet on anyone causes one to shift and the others start to re-position their odds in line as they don't want their liability to be too high. the larger the bet the more you are sticking your head over the parapet.
weller54 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Not done alot? Got villa in the top 6 for 3 consecutive years... look where they have been without him? Did well at Celtic, granted its difficult not to, And his only downside for me is sunderland and even then, had problems with the board.... I don't get all this negativity for O'Neill... where did it come from? Suppose it's like getting divorced, then a few years later remarrying the same woman ?...
AjcW Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 League Cup win then? Yep! He's won more than their current "young hungry manager" that everyone keeps banging on about
chicagofox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Going back to the first post in this thread .... How do we know someone is being interviewed today?
foxfan92 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 What worries me most isn't appointing MON but if Keane decides he wants to follow him. I'm sure I read somewhere he said he'd want to remain Martins number 2 and I remember what a disaster he was at Villa as assistant manager. Can just picture him and Was squaring up after some training ground bust up.
BlueBoy1 Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Must admit, I wasn't too keen on MON returning. However, looking at his performance since Leicester I think he could do a great job! Villa in the top 6 is a miracle. He had issues at Sunderland and the ROI team is shocking. Get him in. Won't take any crap, good man manager and I can see him attracting the loyalty of the players over time.
Dr The Singh Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 He is in a job and near a major tournament, can't see it happening
Frank to be Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 He knew the Premier League. Like most things, if you stay away for years, you will come back and it will be different. Plus he isn't as motivational and bouncy as he used to be is he? This has Kenny Dalgleash's last Liverpool stint written all over it. Dalglish was away from the premier league for 13 years and away from football management for a decade. O'Neill has been away from the premier league for two years and is still managing.
Bagworthblue Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Backwards step written all over this. O'Neill was a god here when I was growing up supporting the club and left us with great memories. Not done a great deal since leaving us and certainly doesn't appear the messiah everyone has him down to be. This would be an appointment based entirely on sentiment. eh? He left Leicester to go to Celtic He did great at Celtic and decided to take a break He did better than anyone much else has done in years at Villa and decided to leave after 4 years following a dispute with Lerner He took Sunderland to their best finish in the Prem in his first season, was strugling in his 2nd season and got sacked before he had a chance to turn it around He has only ever once been sacked He is still managing today so it's not as if he is stale We have a squad full of players to match the type of football he plays He is a similar manager to Pearson in that he looks after his players, protects them and builds squads with great team spirit his appointment is likely to keep both fans, players and staff upbeat allowing us to go into the season on a high rather than a low after the Pearson sacking. he carries no baggage these days and hence a good chance he will keep the existing backroom staff, or even agree to as part of his contract meaning even less disruption. it is a lot more than just sentiment if it happens that is

These markets are certainly open to manipulation. For example, Redknapp and the Portsmouth job a few years ago. He kept denying any interest in the job. And the more he denied it the more money came wanting to back him. Of course, he took the job. That was when he denied even having a computer

Apart from wrestling back the dominance in Scotland, he made Villa a top half side and only failed in his second season with Sunderland. Am I right in saying he's only lost one meaningful game with ROI? I would say he's done as great a deal as he did with us...
chicagofox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 He is in a job and near a major tournament, can't see it happening He's in a job but Ireland are nowhere near a major tournament.

Villa in the top 6 is a miracle. He had issues at Sunderland and the ROI team is shocking. Get him in. Won't take any crap, good man manager and I can see him attracting the loyalty of the players over time. Why is Villa top 6 incredible? They were there or thereabouts around that time.... until Randy Learner sold through the best players, part of the reason MoN left what is this good manager stuff all about, has his infectious personality changed over 20 years? He certaintly doesn't seem to have the same impact since Robertson left He didn't man-manage at Sunderland very well, in fact Advocaat did more in a few games there than MoN ever did If it is to be MoN, I hope to god the board can get Shakey & Walsh to stay on & not just pay them off as MoN moves his current crew in
Carlos88LCFC Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 I love this! He KNEW the premier league. Our last manager didn't have a clue about the premier league but he did alright. What is to suggest MON couldn't hack it? Hes not as motivational and as bouncy as he used to be? I mean WTF does this even mean? How do you know he isn't motivational? And how the hell does being bouncy on the touchline score you premiership points? I mean...come on! When Nigel got on the touch line and have some passion that seemed to coincide with us looking more hungry for it. Managers enthusiasm in the dugout helps, without a doubt. I am not saying MON is now a woeful manager. I am saying we could get better... I'd prefer Lennon over MON! And about the Pearson comment... He got us promoted to the premiership so that's a ridiculous comment. I will back who ever is our manager! MON is a legend and deserves a standing ovation every game he comes to at the KP... I just don't think it's wise for him, or us, to bring him back. And the Kenny comment still stands... He was a completely different man when he came back to Liverpool, failed in the league and didn't achieve the targets expected of him. Oh, and spent 35 mill on one of the biggest flops in BPL history.
Dr The Singh Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 He's in a job but Ireland are nowhere near a major tournament. He is a honourable chap, he will see out the qualifiers

He took them up ten places in two years and kept them there. They then finished 16th again two years after he left.
wattolcfc Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 I'm hearing from someone who has no reason to lie, that O'Neill was in Leicester last night. Do we still book people into the Mariott, if so, someone ring up and ask for a Mr. O'Neill and see what happens...
STUHILL Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 One season in the Prem and all of a sudden MON isn't good enough for us
Aus Fox Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Why is Villa top 6 incredible? Lesteban Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 According to the BBC, the club have refused to comment on the O'Neill situation. No surprises there.
fuchsntf Posted 10 July 2015 Posted 10 July 2015 Why oh why do some leicester fans just love, to post negative cr#p, to any new manager suggestions. Why do a negative analyse before a ball is kicked, or anything is signed. Non of you would make good trekking, or diving companians, you would all be seeing Yetis and sharks attacking you, before You got in the Taxi. I bet none of you fly, bloody plain crash victims ,before your wife tells you what holiday she booked. No .!! Forgot you wouldnt get married, just because they poor girl wouldnt be good enough.

More importantly the structure in place at the club under Pearson with regard to the sports science side of things, something which has served us incredibly well in recent seasons particularly with conditioning and player injury reduction. O'Neill is famously old fashioned in his methods and in the 'game every week' way of the Prem it's going to differ from the odd match as an International manager. Cracks began to become evident towards the end of his stint at Sunderland, it worries me that we could suffer the same fate, plus the added pressure of his status here.
