ImBlue Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Sven has managed more top clubs than O'Neill but doesn't make him a better manager. What experience does Ranieri have of managing a bottom half prem team? This to me just seems a big risk that is unnecessary with the likes of Big Sam and O'Neill out thereBy your own standards, o'neill hasn't been great at ROI and got the tic tac at the club before which was a 'lower prem' club! Big sam however, I would have liked, as I would have been confident of avoiding the drop at least.
Stevosevic Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Forget Greece - Chris Coleman looks world class with the Wales squad, look at him at club level!
dylanlegend Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Really not at all sure about this appointment. His spell as manager of Greece was a shambolic disaster and he's really only worked with big clubs and top players. Neither of which is Leicester City. He's not a manger whose going to build a club and even if successful won't be here in 2 years time. We have a team that plays best when pressing and using pace, Ranieri likes a slow build up based on a solid defence and a packed midfield. I'm not sure we have the players that can play the way he will want. Sadly I fear this increases out chances of relegation especially if we get off to a bad start. Fingers crossed I'm wrong but I can see him gone by Christmas. Still he's worked with some top players but hasn't lasted long at any club. There must be a reason for the consistently short appointments. Good post completely agree
Len Finsbury Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 If Ranieri is as successful as I think he will be, there's going to be some serious deleting of posts on this forum in twelve months time with plenty of 'backed him from the start, mate. Knew he'd do well'!
I'mPlastic Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I haven't read through this whole thread, but the number of people wanting O'neill as manager... Calling Renieri ancient... When they're both the same age?!
Itsthejoeker Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 You guys realise he can only play Greek players for Greece right... It's not like he moulded that team with transfers and a youth set up.
ImBlue Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 No but they ought to beat the Faroe Islands! Agreed. To be fair though, I would be questioning the players. I mean, I be confident of beating them with my goalie up front!
Max Power Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 The owners seem to be running before they can walk. It would have made more sense to get a boss that could consolidate our PL position (like Big Sam) for 2-3 years then move to a "next level" manager I think Raneri is very much a consolidate type manager. Pragmatic, no mug, been around the houses plenty of times. He'll do fine.
merlin1969 Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 He has the 7th highest win rate in the premier league The list is based on the best winning percentage in the Barclays Premier League, having managed a minimum of 50 matches 1. Jose Mourinho (winning rate: 70%) 2. Sir Alex Ferguson (winning rate: 65%) 3. Carlo Ancelotti (winning rate: 63%) 4. Roberto Mancini (winning rate: 62%) 5. Arsene Wenger (winning rate: 58%) 6. Rafael Benitez (winning rate: 56%) 7. Claudio Ranieri (winning rate: 52%) I'll take that !!
benpicko Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I do also like that he's clearly feeling he's got a point to prove back in this league given his keenness for the job
dylanlegend Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Your clutching at straws picking up one team on his list that sounds modest. The rest of his clubs have been superb. Not sure many people can defend his stint with Greece, but a reputation does nothing at international level, you can't sign players, you just work with what you have. Can you name me a top Greek player? Exactly... So why did he take the Greece job knowing all the players were crap!?
dylanlegend Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Strikes me as a manager who maybe doesn't do his research and accepts any old job offered to him. I bet he didn't watch 1 of our games last year
Benji Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 F'k me can people stop mentioning Greece and the Faroe Islands. Look at his domestic career and if you're still underwhelmed then that's your prerogative. But judging a man with around 30 years of management on four games is ridiculous. Jesus football fans can be moronic.
I'mPlastic Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Exactly... So why did he take the Greece job knowing all the players were crap!? To try international management? New culture? Plenty of reasons... I mean... On FM I always take the first international job going!
Vindaloo FOX Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Of course we were all gutted to see NP go but now its time to move on. Ranieri was not my first choice but i'm just over the moon we have a manager again !! let's support him !! good luck Ranieri !!
dylanlegend Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 To try international management? New culture? Plenty of reasons... I mean... On FM I always take the first international job going!I always thought Sven managed us like he was playing FM I hope CR isn't the same I really do
eblair Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 He has the 7th highest win rate in the premier league The list is based on the best winning percentage in the Barclays Premier League, having managed a minimum of 50 matches 1. Rafael Benitez (winning rate: 56%) 7. Claudio Ranieri (winning rate: 52%) I'll take that !! will guarantee he wont be top ten if he manages us for the 'long-term' as the owner's claim; this statistic is also a bit dodgy to use and think anyone using it seriously needs to look up Benjamin Disraeli
kimsalabim Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I think Raneri is very much a consolidate type manager. Pragmatic, no mug, been around the houses plenty of times. He'll do fine. He's only got to stay up in his 1st season. I think he'll more than manager that.
Number 6 Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 To be honest quite glad the press are slating him. Think that'll suit us as a 'fcuk you' when he succeeds. They wanted a media darling didn't they?
Corky Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 The analysis of this appointment amongst the press I've seen is atrocious. The crux of it appears to be foreign = disaster. Ranieri is the next Felix Magath apparently, despite being a different nationality and having a vastly different reputation. Ranieri is clearly a competent manager who has done ok at huge clubs but you'd think we'd dragged in some buffoon who hasn't got a clue about English football (or football at all for that matter). So Ranieri is the new Magath. Would they ever say that Sean Dyche (who should've got the job, according to one sap on TalkSport) is another Aidy Boothroyd, a one-great-season wonder with an unfancied club? Of course they wouldn't. Dyche "knows the league" and merits the position despite not staying up. Prove them wrong Claudio.
Soar Fox Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Imagine the difference on here if say QPR or Aston Villa appointed Ranieri instead. "Ha ha definitely going down" "another mercenary in it for the money" "terrible appointment"
lgfualol Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Can't be bothered to read the last 20 pages. What's the consensus, 50/50?
fuchsntf Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 Exactly... So why did he take the Greece job knowing all the players were crap!? He thought the greeks were super intelligent, because the eat Mezzes, then realised too late he mixed the word up with Mensa.Conned him to take them back into Europe, when they knew they were leaving
I'mPlastic Posted 13 July 2015 Posted 13 July 2015 I always thought Sven managed us like he was playing FM I hope CR isn't the same I really do Not to try and defend sven, as I know everyone on here hates him... But you've got to say, in the championship, big money signings aren't really the same signings he would have available to him in the premier league..
