HankMarvin Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/claudio-ranieri-leicester-project-can-6288311 Claudio Ranieri: Leicester project can prove as successful as Diego Maradona's Napoli 022:30, 20 AUGUST 2015 BY IAN BAKER The Italian club only emerged as a European force in the 1980s after the Argentina legend joined and now Foxes boss hopes for similarly great things Claudio Ranieri has challenged his new stars to turn Leicester into the Napoli of England. The Italian club emerged as a European force in the 1980s, after superstar Diego Maradona joined them. And now Ranieri is hoping summer signings Gokhan Inler, Yohan Benalouane, N’Golo Kante and Shinji Okazaki can have a similar impact on the Foxes. The Italian recalled of the football scene in his homeland: “I remember when nobody wanted to go to Napoli. But after Maradona, everyone wants to go to Napoli. “If we start to build maybe, in three or four years, a lot of players will want to come to Leicester. "Our chairman wants to build a very good team and that’s why I’m here. "We want to build our foundation and with a big foundation you can then build the first floor, second floor and everything.” Switzerland captain Inler has arrived - irionically from Napoli - for £3million this week, with Leicester beating several clubs to his signature. It gives Ranieri a replacement for last year’s player of the year, Esteban Cambiasso, after he scoured the globe for a midfielder of similar quality He said: “Inler is one of our foundations. He’s a different player to Esteban but we play with two midfielders in front of the centre-back but he is more or less in the same way - the same zone. “It’s not important now to compare Esteban with Gokhan. Maybe he can be better. Cambiasso was a story, but now we must write a new story.” Inler could earn his first start against Tottenham on Saturday and Ranieri added: “He knows me very well, he’s played a lot in Italy. Getty Coping without Cambiasso: The experienced Argentinian was vital as Leicester avoided relegation “I told him if he came here he can enjoy his football. I watched him a long time ago when he played for Udinese. “He is calm, can keep possession, can pass and defend very well. The tests say he is ready to play immediately and that is important for him and I will choose the first XI on Friday."
Hack Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 He is going to prove a lot of the early doubters wrong. Including the professional commentators and many on this forum. We have many posters on her who instantly go to the negative. So far everything the owners have done since NP has worked. Hiring CR could be a master stroke let's now see if he can get our version of maradona to come!!
STUHILL Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 Talking so much sense. I loved the video on Sky Sports earlier of him doing his pre-media ritual of shaking every single journalists hand before the press conference started. True gent and really hope he continues to be a success here
Donut Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 I could never understand the negativity in all quarters towards Ranieri in the first place to be honest. The Napoli comparison is interesting, but i can certainly see us in a Swansea or Stoke type position, with a strong team and a decent force in the cups in the coming years with keeping this squad of players together.
benpicko Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 What he's saying is that we're going to sign Messi next year get in there

Benguin Posted 20 August 2015 Posted 20 August 2015 Comfortable season not worrying about relegation then comfortable mid table then Europe then champions league then best team in the world. Five year plan
Jaspa Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 Ibra confirmed 8) Balotelli confirmed http://metro.co.uk/2015/08/18/mario-balotelli-collaborates-with-puma-to-create-mohawk-themed-football-boots-5348106/
urban.spaceman Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 Have never felt more positive or confident about the future of the club than I do now!
EnglishOxide Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 So far everything the owners have done since NP has worked. What have they done exactly? They sacked a successful manager. They then recruited a manager who had to issue a come and get me plea. Before that they sounded out two inferior managers in O'Neill and Allardyce. I wouldn't put it past the owners to sack Claudio if we are lingering around 15th at Christmas. They don't want a repeat of last season. Our current success is down to the previous manager and the players. Ranieri has had his part to play in the opening 2 games too. What the owners have done is back the club with funds, fair play to them for that (and it has become easier with the PL money), but it doesn't mean I'm going to put our success down to them rather than the people doing the work at ground level. We are in a good state at the minute, let's hope it continues and if it does its because of the management and the players.
Collibosher70 Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 'they dont want a repeat of last season'.....'they sacked a succesful manager'...kind of anwsers itself really
EnglishOxide Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 What I'm saying is, is if we drop off and are involved in another relegation scrap, Claudio will not be afforded the same time as NP was. I think the owners will gamble on another manager. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

He was fantastic and did a wonderful job for this club and is well regarded by most. But for what ever reason they sacked him, they had their reasons. What have they done, really? they have invested vast amounts of money into the club giving it the brightest future it has ever had. They have appointed a very successful and well respected new manager, they have spent more on players to give us the best chance of securing our PL future by buying players like, Huth, Okazaki, Fuchs, Inler, Kante etc etc and that is just this year. Paid the debt of the stadium created a strong culture and kept the vast majority, if not all of NP's staff, have a happy and very successful team playing for the club, developed a very strong front office management team. Need I go on. For the decision to let NP go you base you negativity an hate towards the owners is just very immature. We have some of the best owners of any team in the PL. If you don't think so who would you prefer? I for one am happy that they own my team.
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 it's exiting right now, but I'm trying to stay grounded.
Thracian Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 There are various reasons for our success but the biggest one is our owners because, without them, we wouldn't have laid the first bricks of our current development which is the most exciting we've ever been a part of.
langtonfox Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 So refreshing toHave claudio in charge instead of the arrogant pearson, get over it Oxide!
Fuch Me Moore Posted 21 August 2015 Posted 21 August 2015 Pearson was good for us last year, but he is gone now...the owners had to make a tough choice in what I imagine we're difficult circumstances. I have to admit the jury was out on my opinion of Claudio when it was first announced, but I think we should give our owners credit. I can't think of a decision they have messed up on. I'm sure the owners didn't sack Pearson on a wim, but now they have and it certainly seems onwards and upwards! Hail Claudio

I think the owners will gamble on another manager. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Pure conjecture. The owners have never been the trigger happy type (Sousa excepted, though the sensible money is on that being Mandaric's call), can't see any reason why it's going to change now. Great criticism though, suggesting a future event and then blindly guessing at the owner's reaction, then criticising that reaction. Brilliant stuff.

Based on what exactly? how can you criticise someone for something that they haven't done when they have done the exact opposite in backing the manager during 2 disastrous periods of form. They appreciate stability and will back Claudio if it gets tough.
