Mahrez

I genuinely think he's worth more.

We wouldn't welcome such an offer as for us he's irreplaceable but if the giants of the game come knocking with silly money it's hard to keep him.

There have been a few players down the years who look spectacular but have little end product and Mahrez has now developed end product. His talent is without dispute, you could honestly make a decent argument that he's as good as Messi at dribbling with the ball at his feet and it wouldn't be the most stupid thing you've heard today.

He has the potential to become the best player in the PL.

If he keeps this sort of form up he'll easily go for the sort of money De Bruyne went for, maybe even more since he's at a PL club which have him on a long contract and no need at all to sell him - presuming he doesn't have a silly release clause fee.  Preferably he won't go at all and will be part of Leicester City the European powerhouse.  We can always dream.

What I liked about him yesterday is when we were 2-0 or 2-1 down he didn't hide. He still wanted the ball and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck and helped drag us through, obviously with help from the others!

First half he wanted the ball but things weren't coming off for him but that happens with any Player.

yeah this is a good point. he used to go a bit quiet when we were crap. not sure if that was personal choice or perhaps fear, or maybe pearson telling him that 0-1 in a relegation scrap wasn't the best place to be maradona turning 30 yards from our own goal.

but yesterday he tried and tried again, he had the belief that it'd come off eventually and it did big time. also great that in his interview he said he felt like he needed to provide to assists and be amazing in the last half an hour because he knew it was solely his fault for their second. it wasn't really, we can't blame the man who lost the ball 70 yards out for their goal completely, but great to see he feels responsible but it didn't stop him doing his thing again ten minutes later lol

yesterday was just great from him. not his scintillating best for large parts but showed a different side of him, with the mental strength to put 65 "poor" minutes aside and drag us from a horror defeat to a heroic victory.

Thing is, we aren't scrapping for cash and we don't really need it right now. Im sure our owners would rather have success, and for that, we need to keep Mahrez, I honestly don't think they'll sell him.

I think the thing with modern day football is, it isn't going to be about the money, but about a players ambition, I'm sure we all want him to stay and have a real love for LCFC, but the fact is, if a top side come knocking it's really hard to keep a player, if he decides he want's medals or to go play at the Camp nou every week and live in the sun.

Can we hold onto enough of our big players and develop into a top side, I don't know, but this year could give us a great chance, afterall, Man City are the only top 4 side to turn up so far this season.

It'll depend more on whether he wants to go but judging from that interview the other day that doesn't seem likely however if someone like Barca came calling heads can be turned.

The pessimistic side of me thinks maybe Dyer has been brought in to be his potential replacement. :dunno:  :sweating:

Maybe, but I think we can prove a lot this season. I can only see us getting better and better over the next few seasons. We have the groundings to be a top 10 club if we stick at it. Its easy for a player to run off to Barcelona claiming to be ambitious, but the chances are, he wouldn't make the starting eleven and would spend a lot of time on the bench. If it were me, I would rather play week in week out at a smaller club and enjoy my football. Guess that's just down to the individual though.

It depends on what Barcelona offered.

£20m indicates they see him as a squad player so it's easy for us to refuse and keep the player somewhat happy.

£60m saus they want him in the first XI and it's almost impossible to refuse him that opportunity.

I'm just glad we have him on a four year deal which means if we have to sell it's under our terms.

How this pans out will tell us exactly what the owners think our potential is. Keep him and invest and they think we are capable of being on par with the likes of Man City/Chelsea/Arse etc...sell him and they are indicating that they are expecting us to be similar to Southampton/Swansea etc.

Yesterday proved what a crucial player he is. Had a quiet, some would say poor, match for an hour. In the past I reckon he would've been subbed. But he never stopped trying to create, take on, upset their defence and it paid off. Fantastic towards the end.

If he continues like this January may be a tough ask for us to keep him. He is not going to be cup tied from Champions league games, so IF, and its still a big if as only 5 games in, a big team, English or foreign might think he's worth spending millions on.

It would've if we hadn't got him to sign a 5 year at the start of the year

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but he really pulled it out of the bag in the second half yesterday, after what was in my opinion an atrocious first forty five. Every second touch of his was five feet ahead of him and he was at fault for Villa's second. But, all is forgiven for an excellent last twenty minutes. When he's at his best as he has been, he's an absolute blessing to have at the club.

Seriously I wonder what some fans be smoking

I've seen and heard today that Anthony martial was a bargain for Manchester utd at 36 million quid! No no no, a bargain is Riyad mahrez at 400 grand. People would say mahrez was a bargain at 40 million if he was at utd doing what he's done this year. Unbelievable player but I still wish he'd pass more in the final 3rd, when he does that he will be the absolute complete player imo.

The new TV money means english clubs need to stay up so I can't see anyone selling anyone of note in January

Infact most english clubs will be looking stupid money for players as they don't need to sell anymore , any of them

He is a 40-50m player now with his contract and his age and progress

And City will want 60m to part with him if he scores 20+ goals

He is different class on song , he looks so happy at present so there is no pressure

He will want a new contract next summer of £120k+ a week

Then it will get interesting how city manage that

The tide has really turned with clubs that normally sell their best players, and that's probably to do with the new TV money. £30m for Stones, £21m for Mane just isn't worth it for a selling club any more. Even QPR have turned down £10-15m for Austin in the hope that he can get them up this season, and he'll almost certainly leave on a free next summer.

As for Mahrez, I hope they keep him. If a Premier League club outside of the traditional big 4 (City/United/Chelsea/Arsenal) comes knocking I think City would resist comfortably. Would one of those four want him? City are well covered in that position, United too. So that leaves Arsenal and Chelsea.
