Buce Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 Like many on here, I was gutted when the owners sacked NP, and totally underwhelmed by their choice of replacement. I feared the worst. But what an inspired signing Claudio has proven to be. He's retained the spirit and energy of the side, while adding some much needed tactical acumen. And it brought a lump to my throat to see him whipping the crowd to a frenzy in ET. Absolute legend, already. Love the guy.

Hack Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 Just shows the professionals who run clubs know better than the fans. The club were right, irrelevant why Pearson was sacked to hire CR. This club is reborn new with this ownership and management. Fans really have to stop thinking of it as a permanent struggle, but a club looking not only to survive but thrive in the Premier League. We have or we will be a struggling club again and forever. CR is in his mid sixties and has a few maybe 5 years left in him if he survives with great results. This management is as important as any of our stars like Vardy (who would have thought a million pound player from the conference would be our star) or Kante and Marhez (400k from the French 2nd division) The fans need to give every decision a chance before ranting, but that may be a little to much to accept.

Long may it continue, but some of the fans praising CR now will be the first on his back when we have a rough patch. NP wasn't immune after totally rebuilding the team and two promotions. That is assuming, of course, that we have a rough patch - and don't qualify for the Champion's League.

I was stunned and really disappointed NP went, after the finish to the season and the QPR thrashing it felt we were on the crest of a wave we could only ride. Even after the summer scandal it seemed like it had been dealt with, onto work. Then he went. Bam. Then the fact it took two weeks to appoint. We were less than a month away from the season and we had no idea who was coming in. Such little idea in fact we genuinely thought Preki might be appointed. Then Claudio and It hink a lot were underwhelmed. I envisaged radical attempted change in a short space of time which might backfire. I didn't think we were instantly doomed but I was seriously worried about the squad as a unit and team. How great it is to see what's happening in the early stages. It of course might all go wrong but you don't get the sense this is a fragile run and you don't get the sense one defeat will spell a long drought. We might go through one but the togetherness here is fantastic. Whatever the case, CR is delivering and doing it fast. Well done to him and to the owners for (seemingly) making the right decision. If they were intent of replacing NP, whatever the reasons, we couldn't stop that. It was his successor we were worried about, and they've not done bad.

He has the experience to handle players and the know how to turn defeat into wins. You can even see the improvement in some of the younger players compared to last season. Long may it continue.

Ironically, he has not "tinkered" too much: evolution, not revolution - relatively minor changes to team/squad and playing style, compared to what I feared. I'll always be grateful to NP for what he achieved at the club. He and his coaching/scouting team left LCFC in a good place when handing over to Claudio (as he was gracious enough to acknowledge), but so far Claudio has been impeccable taking things forward. Long may it continue. I'm one of those (maybe a minority) who loved Pearson's dry humour and gruff, awkward attitude to the media, but Ranieri impresses on that front, too: authoritative in a charming way, a likeable and humorous bloke who keeps calm but has passion, positivity and isn't afraid to take decisions. Long may that continue, too! Even the sun's shining....

In that respect it's completely different from the great start under Taylor, who seemed oblivious to what had made the O'Neill team so successful.

No one would have thought we would start like we have, he seems to understand the team and what the club is all about.

Exactly, at club level if you look at it and where the teams were when he took charge he has actually been successful and moved those clubs forward. Everyone including the media was just looking at the Greece job, but Greece are just an awful team and not much can be done about that.

TrentFox Posted 23 September 2015 Posted 23 September 2015 I agree with many of the OP's sentiments. But it took NP a long time to totally win me over to his methodologies and idiosyncracies. It will take CR a while yet, too. Undeniably a fabulous start - and what City fan can be anything other than absolutely delighted at present? But there will be tougher times ahead. Some unusual team selections have been quickly forgotten as the players have risen to every challenge and recovered some seemingly lost causes. But that probably won't happen when the opposition gets a little more demanding imminently. Similarly, the likely return of NP to a sinking PL team in the autumn could well trigger ructions with backroom staff. Hopefully, by then, CR will have truly found his feet and got the measure of this squad's capabilities / limitations. A time for optimism? Yes. Undoubtedly. But 45 years of following the fortunes of this team means one just can't help but look for potential banana skins. And I can still see some.

It was our reserve team against only three changes for them to the team that Beat Man City. I too find it refreshing to see a manager making subs before the 69th minute. All subs that Claudio has made have had an impact on the game and tactically he is always spot on. Example being, moving Kante into the middle against Stoke on Saturday. Ranieri is doing a great job even geeing up the crowd in the latter stages last night. Ranieri is changing our team in a positive and refreshing manner he has made changes.

Ranieri has identified our strengths and played to them, adding quality players like Kante, Inler (we hope), Fuchs, Okazaki. Taylor was completely oblivious to what made the O'Neill team work so well, dismantling the team spirit and organisation of the team, pissing off senior players and replacing talented players with dross from the football league.

But I consistently said give him time and let's just see. Don't just dismiss him immediately. And he's come good so far. The squad is much stronger. Kante looks to be an inspired signing. Easily the best ball winner the club has had for many years. Long may it continue.

If you are seriously comparing Ranieri and what is going on with our great club at the moment with that idiot Taylor you haven't got a clue. Read Muzzys book. It gives a great insight into how much Taylor was out of his depth here. Scenarios which at this moment in time are poles apart.

We are building slowly and that promises a bright future. I actually think CR deserves more credit that the owners, he put his name out there and linked himself to the job, he clearly had a desire to come back to England and have another crack at club management here and so far it seems a good fit. The back room team that stayed have clearly helped and CR has taken what they are saying on board, he's not been to quick to make change for changes sake in the overall way we are approaching games, he has kept the squad together and added a few, the players seem to have taken to him, from the interviews I have heard. He also comes across very well in the media, a charming man, bit like sven, but he seems comfortable, as was picked upon talksport last night by jason cundy who I guess knew him from his time at Chelsea. I guess that will please the owners as the bad press we received last season for a few of NP antics would not have sat well I guess. Let's see how we react to a defeat, when it eventually comes, hopefully not buy spending the next 3 months without a win, but I don't see that happening this time round, as Kingy alluded to last night, they are 12 months on as top flight players. Lessons have been learnt.

Lessons have been learnt. Good point about the back room team. They've maintained the consistency. When (he will) Pearson gets his next job it is IMPERATIVE that Walsh etc don't sod off to join him. For me, keeping our structure in place is absolutely essential.
