I realised this morning we had seven English players starting against Chelsea.

The entire front three, Hamza in the middle and three of the back line, one born in the East Midlands.

That has to be a record since returning to the Premier League and probably the last time we were here too?

Morgan would still be classed as Jamaican even though he's born here.

2 born in East Mids, isn't it? Morgan and Hamza. 4 from the whole Midlands including Gray and Maddison.

It's impressive to have a majority of homegrown players in the first team in the PL in this day and age. When the PL started, there was only a handful of non-UK/Ireland players here, IIRC. Doesn't seem all that long ago, really.

Just had a look. There were only 13 players from outside the UK/Ireland appearing on the opening day of the Premiership. Seems crazy now.

5 across the midlands as a whole, Albrighton’s from Tamworth

With Ricardo Pereira scoring for Leicester, and Bernardo Silva netting for Man City, this was the first time a Premier League match saw a Portuguese player score for both sides.

Leicester have won their last two Premier League games against 'big six' opposition, as many as they had in their previous 19 in the competition (won two, drew two, lost 15).

Only a matter of time until Wolves accomplish this on their own.

But so far, their own goals have been Irish (Doherty) and English (Coady).

( correction, Coady's comedy header v Chelsea was changed to credit Loftus-Cheek. )
