Fox92 Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Kasper 8 Simpson 8 Huth 8 Morgan 9 - Dealt with Costa, a powerful and physical striker, very well. Wes looked quick off the mark too. Excellent performance from the Captain. Fuchs 9 - So pleased to have a solid left back here again. Another top display. Albrighton 8 Drinkwater N/A Kante 9 - Yet again another superb performance. Absolutely everywhere. Even in the last minute he was still chasing the ball around. Mahrez 9 - All round I thought he was excellent, of course topped off with a goal that Bergkamp would have been proud of. Vardy 8 Ulloa 6 Chelsea: 7 - They were good, lets not kid ourselves. Not sure how they didn't score more than one goal. Referee: 2 - Worst performance I've seen from Clattenburg here. How a number of Chelsea players escaped bookings was unbelievable. Very inconsistent in decisions. Claudio: Stay (obviously)
Clever Fox Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Another game where Wes Morgan goes under the radar despite giving a colossal performance. I have to agree he's been absolutely immense for us this season. For a man who has not had a break since the end of the 2013 season his performances have been nothing less than sensational. He's a worthy leader on and off the pitch. Another great and focused performance from us. What I really like is how we're learning how to manage games. solid at the back with 2 banks of 4 when needed and now we even have Kante getting forward to support attacks. Even Mahrez for all his attacking talent is learning how to track back and offer support to the defence. The quality of the Goals were just sensational. Especially the first one. The team work and understanding that all good teams develop. Upwards and onwards we go.
Fox Ulike Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 In terms of unsung heros I think Ulloa deserves a shout for his performance. I think he was as good as anyone apart from Mahrez and Kante and maybe Albrighton. He was unspectacular but provided a real presence up front. His hold-up play often relieved pressure on the defence, and stopped Chelsea from being able to put us under continual pressure for the last 20 minutes or so. I’d not seen a performance like that from him before. A real team performance from the big man.
adimo1409 Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 9 Mahrez , Kante 8 Morgan , fuchs , Vardy 7's rest of the team good game overall
nnfox Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Mainly 8s from me. Ulloa was a 5 though. I thought he had a mare. Also gave Claudio a 6. When John Terry was brought off and Fabregas sent on to replace him, Andy King was receiving treatment. Claudio used it as a bit of a time out and gave instructions sit back and hold what we had. It allowed them to play much higher up the pitch and sent me from "Chelsea are getting nothing from this game" to "I can deffo see Chelsea scoring one, I hope it is only one". Claudio made me unnecessarily nervous for the last 20 minutes although, on balance, he should stay.
AKCJ Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Schmeichel - 6.5 - Couple of good saves and he managed time very well. Still looked shaky from corners. Simpson - 7 - Kept whoever was on the left wing fairly quiet but got done for their goal. Morgan - 9 - Was clearly up for it. Costa had no chance, when Morgan plays well he's unbelievable. Captains performance, MOTM. Huth - 7 - Dealt with Costa when he needed to, lost Remy for their goal so looses a mark for me. Fuchs - 8 - Two goal saving blocks and was just his classy self. Standard Fuchs, 8/10 every week these days. Mahrez - 8 - Assist and a goal, both things of beauty. Went very quiet after his goal though. Kante - 9 - Absolute hero. Drinkwater - 6 - Was playing well until his injury. Hopefully he's not out for too long. Albrighton - 8 - Had Ivanovic in his back pocket all game. He's been outshadowed by Mahrez on the left all season but on Monday he was superb. Ulloa - 6.5 - Looked knackered but held the ball up well. Vardy - 7.5 - Great finish, 9 for the first half but he went a bit quiet in the second. Booking didn't help him. King - 7.5 - Standard from Wales' best player. Got about the pitch and made some important tackles and passes. Inler - 7 - Helped slow the game down when Chelsea looked a bit dangerous. Okazaki - 6 - Didn't have much time to impact the game but still won a couple of valuable throw ins high up the pitch. Claudio - 7.5 - Thought his subs should have come on earlier. Brave to keep attacking when we were 2-1 up in the last 10 mins. Referee - 6.5 - Thought he was okay, don't really understand how some Chelsea players escaped the book. Atmosphere - 9.5 - Last 10 minutes was special.
Nod.E Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 9 - Riyad, Wes8 - Kasper, Fuchs6 - Ulloa7 - Everyone elseRanieri - 8. Got the tactics spot on for the game but as other have eluded to, could have freshened things up slightly sooner as it became obvious we were being overran.
Dickov22 Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Kasper 8 Great save from Costa that looked a certain goal Simpson 7 Defended well again, why was he marking Matic though at corners? Lost him every time Huth 7 His booking was a necessity really. Does look a little slow at times Morgan 9 MOTM Colossul again. Underrated by LCFC fans and football fans in general Fuchs 7 Gave away some silly fouls but another good performance. Isn't it nice to finally have a top class left back Albrighton 9 Close to being MOTM for me. Works so hard and was a constant threat to them. Kante 8 Gave the ball away a few times but so many interceptions. Getting better and better going forward too Drinkwater N/A Mahrez 9 So good Vardy 7 Took his goal well. Loved his foul on Costa too Ulloa 6 His touch let him down a few times but did ok King 7 Never lets us down Inler 6 Would've liked to have seen him sooner tbh Okazaki 6 Didn't have time to do a lot Ranieri 10 Proving everyone (including me) wrong this season and a lovely bloke to go with it. Loved his post match interview. Classy
Captain... Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Huth 7 His booking was a necessity really. Does look a little slow at times Was it necessary? We were 2-0 up and Diego Costa had it on the halfway line. If Willian or Oscar or Hazard had it then fair enough, but Costa can't hurt us from there and we had other players back. At the time I thought fair enough, and there was no risk in giving away the free kick at the cost of a yellow, but for a suspension it seemed a little unnecessary I would have backed us not to concede had Costa lumbered down the wing with the ball.

But he would know before the game he was 1 yellow from a suspension, and you would hope would be extra cautious, he had also had a few clashes with Costa. Whether he had enough time to think all that through, or just couldn't resist sticking one on Costa.

Whether he had enough time to think all that through, or just couldn't resist sticking one on Costa. yeah he would have, but i'd say saving a potential chelsea attack and helping us cling on to a win was a better yellow card than something like booting a ball at someone's head or arguing with a ref in a defeat etc.
Fox92 Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 I clapped the Huth yellow card. Booking all day long but knew what he was doing - Costa was away - I love those sort of challenges just to stop the opposition.
shen Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Hmmm seems a lot were not impressed with Ulloa. I didn't watch the game live but have watched it in its entirety since and thought he was effective if unspectacular. Especially during the end, even when he was knackered, he held the ball up, even shrugged off challenges while running with the ball and relieved the pressure a bit. Made a couple of poor decisions and/or touches, but also a few good ones, notably a sweet move with Albrighton which so nearly found Vardy in the box. A bit more awareness and he would've spotted Mahrez in space at the far post. He's obviously getting sharper with each game, so I'm very pleased with his progress. Also, for all the improvement Simpson has shown this season, his limitations were exposed a few times on Monday. Nearly cost a goal with a poor headed clearance, but made amends with a good block straight after. Obviously didn't do a great job stopping the cross for Remy's goal and looked sluggish a couple of other times in the second half. It's an area we could definitely strengthen, but the way the team is going it would feel harsh to replace anyone.

It's an area we could definitely strengthen, but the way the team is going it would feel harsh to replace anyone. I think it is clear that Ulloa and Simpson, probably include Shinji in this too, are just not performing at the same level as the rest, not through lack of effort and not because they are bad players but they are not clicking in the same way the others are. Ulloa's problem is he is not a natural at running forwards with the ball, but he does try, and some times too much, when he should go for the simple pass and get in the box, but he does give us a needed physical presence. Shinji also works hard and is quicker, but he offers almost no physical presence and is very easy to knock off the ball. Ulloa is more effective as he offers more, better hold up play, aerial presence and strength in both boxes, but our whole ethos is built on high energy fast attacking, running at and beyond defenders and that isn't his game. He would look a lot better if he didn't try and run around like Vardy, but then we lose out as we need to press as a team. Simpson has improved a lot, but is still limited, the difference between him and Fuchs is clear, but his strengths are more important to the team than RDL, and that is just being a solid no nonsense right back, good positioning and some good defending, offering very little going forward isn't important as we have Vardy, Mahrez and Albrighton for that.
ozleicester Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Cant be arsed to write everyones scores, but they are pretty much all 8+... but the only disappointment for me was Ulloa. For me, he seemed to get beaten in the air most times and didnt manage to hold it up, exdept for the last 5 mins where he did a great job. His first touch was clumsy and shooting under pressure (something you cant practice) was rusty. Not having a go, i love him and the option he gives us, But IMO, Monday night he didnt have a great game.
NEVERDIE007 Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 10 Mahrez 9 VardyThe rest is 8.I am super happy to beat Chelsea.

Agree with most of what you said. However, the attacking part of his game is something which has improved massively during this run. He presses as high, if not higher up the pitch as De Laet has a tendency to do, but without making the same poor decisions. When we have possession and aren't on the counter, he is willing to support and makes occasional runs down the channels. I wonder if he will start to cross the ball a bit more too in time, because we know the opposition left back will likely be preoccupied with stopping Mahrez going inside leaving space on the flank.
champselect Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Schmeichel - Thought he had a pretty good game and made a good save as well. 7 Simpson - Loses a mark for the goal coming from his side, but otherwise fairly solid for me. 6 Huth - Loves a yellow card but he's looking more and more like the solid bloke who turned our defence around last year. 7 Morgan - You've got to hand it to Morgan really. Nearly an ever-present last season, two tournaments in different continents in the summer and has walked back in to be an ever-present this season, and has really upped his game. He's convinced me he's a very capable centre half at this level. He was fantastic last night. 9 Fuchs - He does give away some cheap free kicks but that's about the only aspect of his game I can knock. Very composed and a really sweet left foot. He'll score this season. 8 Mahrez - Hitting the heights I hoped he would. Fantastic talent and arguably the league's best player this season. His part in both goals were Messi-esque. 9 Drinkwater - Not on long enough. N/A Kante - I think people are finally twigging onto this bloke. What a player. I think Vardy's met his match in terms of energy. He's improving the attacking side of his game as well. Just a brilliant midfielder. 9 Albrighton - Works his bollocks off, shame he kept putting the crosses in the air as Courtois was having them every time. He's a nuisance for the opposition though and he's playing really well, yet another assist. 8 Ulloa - Absolute donkey at times but very effective at others. Won a hell of a lot in the air. 7 Vardy - He seems to be a bit quieter in games these days, but keeps scoring goals. The run and finish for his goal was that of a natural goalscorer at this level though. He's scoring all types this year. 8 Subs King - Thought King did pretty well. Won us the ball back on a number of occasions. 7 Inler - Not really on long enough. Okazaki - See Inler. Ranieri - Tactics spot on again. Only criticism is maybe Inler should've come on a bit earlier as they were killing us in midfield, but never mind. I thought we handled the five minutes of injury time like a top side. What exactly did Chelsea force in that time? Our instinct is to be well under the cosh, but they hardly had a sniff. We're looking defensively solid and are still creating chances. 8 Chelsea - You could see the natural ability but the fight just isn't there. The likes of Hazard & Costa are a joke at the minute, I'd not have either near our side. 6 Referee - Thought he was very inconsistent in his awarding of cards. 4 Ulloa won a lot in the air!!!! What game were u watching???
Dickov22 Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Ulloa won a lot in the air!!!! What game were u watching??? Same one as me because I thought he did too
ScouseFox Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Same one as me because I thought he did too both squawka and whoscored have him down as winning two headers all game. from ten attempts according to the former.
Sampson Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Not sure about winning a lot in the air, but I did think Ulloa held the ball up very, very well in the first half especially. He had a very mixed night but wouldn't say he was noticeably poor.
Vlad the Fox Posted 16 December 2015 Posted 16 December 2015 Morgan 10, absolute colossus for us. His best game for city and really stepped up a level, he (and Huth) unsettled costa and ruffled him from the start and has such completely dominated him, he really looked like he was enjoying himself too. Shown himself to be a top premier league defender last night.
