Beliall Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 I wonder if the first half formation has down to players fitness and/or trying to keep Inler happy rather than tactical? i think it was tactical, as far as fitness goes, i think we have been deliberately off the pace because of the fixture build up.
kingpowerout Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Good result tonight. Slight concern for me is that if Vardy and Mahrez are not at their best then where do the goals come from? We need the likes of Drinky, Kanté etc to chip in with a few more. If we beat Bournemouth on Saturday then I think we can all agree it's been a great Xmas period. We must strengthen in January though with a central midfielder, No. 10 and a pacey winger with flair (maybe we have him in Dyer!?)
Kitchandro Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Clean sheet that's the best thing there. Don't think we offered enough and didn't really look to win it I thought. Morgan or Huth motm. That's completely unfair. 2nd half we were clearly the side trying to win. We just didn't quite have enough on the day. Encouraging performance against a quality side. We can go into the new year with confidence.
Lcfc_1995 Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 I thought mahrez was a bit out of position in the first half, and Simpson got left on his own some times. But we improved a lot in the second half, would definitely take 11 points from 18 in our recent hard run of fixtutes!
Leicesterpool Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Tonight though did scream out one thing and that was "we need another striker". If both Vardy and Mahrez are well marked out the game, there's no way the goals are going to come.
Number 6 Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Excellent defensive display tonight. Wes was outstanding, even getting involved in attacks too. One negative was Inler, still seems to want 5 minutes on the ball before he passes. Given he was in a midfield 5, I find that worrying.
MC Prussian Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Back to 4-4-2 next week definitely. Not as threatening with Vardy on his own The 4-5-1 or 4-1-4-1 was established because of the impeccable attacking threat within Manchester City's ranks. If we had played a 4-4-2 from the start, I think we'd have been murdered. I can see us deploying the lone striker formation a few more times in the second half of the season, in particular against City, Arsenal and Tottenham.
ousefox Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 That's completely unfair. 2nd half we were clearly the side trying to win. We just didn't quite have enough on the day. Encouraging performance against a quality side. We can go into the new year with confidence. You seriously think we were trying to win when we made a sub in extra time, and that sub was de laet for Albrighton?
StriderHiryu Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Not the greatest game, but you would have taken the 0-0 at the start of the game. I think Ranieri is smart enough to know that we can't win the league (no matter how much we all want to dream it!) but that Champions League is possible. To achieve it we are going to have to employ some Serie A style "grinding" out of some results to do it and ensure we stay clear of whoever is 5th (currently Palace who are 8 behind us). I think this is something that Ranieri has as an additional dimension that Pearson didn't - the tactical nous / savvy / experience to know when to switch it round. Being 2nd only on goal difference 12 months from this time last year is insane. I was prepared for Championship football this year, not talk of Champions League! It really is an amazing story. The 2nd half of the season is much tougher with so many difficult away games. It will be a nail-biter, although a far more enjoyable nail biter than this time last year. I'd still love to see the owners buy or loan 1-2 really good players this transfer window to help us with the push. Our 1st team is amazing and arguably anyone we got wouldn't even start for a while. But I just don't think it's sensible to rely on Mahrez and Vardy for the entire season. Some more quality in the team could make a difference come the final standings. I didn't think I'd ever mention the words "Leicester" and "Champions League" in the same breath in my lifetime, so I really feel this is the chance of a lifetime we have to take.
ajthefox Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Brilliant defensive display, shame we couldn't nick it at the end really. Man City were dominant first half but second half we were the better team imo, although no-one had any clear cut chances. Standout performances from Wes, Huth and Kanté. Kasper, Simpson and Fuchs all solid, Drinky, Albrighton and Inler all looked good. Vardy looked off the pace a bit and Mahrez didn't get on the ball that much but was a threat when he did manage to get on the ball. Very astute decision making from Claudio. We were very sloppy on the ball early on but I think going for the 3 did help steady the defence after a poor display at Anfield. We got into the game a little more and once we looked more comfortable on the ball going back to the 442 helped going forward, just a shame we didn't carve out any solid chances. Overall very happy, stopped a 270 million squid XI from scoring and joint top of the table. Mental. Well done lads!!!!
crisp packet Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Would have taken a draw before... All day long! We got what we was set up for .. A draw. Happy days?
AyewJoking Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 bbc news just saying how we failed to go back top and have gone two games without scoring. they are too hard on the big teams if you ask me.
kingfox Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 In all honesty I thought Man City were going to be better than that. We were under the cosh a bit in the first half, Kasper had to make a few good saves, come second half I thought we were the better side and Man City didn't look like scoring. As for performances, Fuchs, Huth & Kante performed well but Wes Morgan was phenomenal absolutely phenomenal. Decent performance and a deserved point
Tom17LCFC Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Would've taken that before the game 100%. I can't get over how dirty they were, awful.
Guest bss9401 Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Kante given MOTM on the BBC sport website. Great performance from him against the likes of Silva, De Bruyne, Yaya and Fernandinho. Solid performance after a shaky first half hour and i'm very proud of the Foxes tonight.
catfordfox Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 our key players are clearly and unsurprisingly looking a bit knackered - no wonder given they've been playing at 100 miles an hour for half a.season, with very little rotation in the first 11. unfortunately this has caught up with them just as we've been faced with this past group of tougher fixtures. We weren't great against everton, but managed to get an excellent result nonetheless. Liverpool the wheels came off, we looked exhausted. In which context Im puzzled as to why anyone wouldnt think that was a great point and bit of tactical masterclass tonight. Even if Mahrez and Vardy weren't tired and a bit off form, if we'd gone hell for leather against that frontline it would have been another arsenal 5-2. But given the Liverpool performance and general tiredness, thought ranieri's tactics were spot on, he'd obviously learnt from that game, and they were for the most part well executed in a highly disciplined performance. Certain we'll bring a few players in now, Ranieri must know (and the tactical changes tonight indicate he does) that we can't rely on Vardy and Mahrez being fit and on top form, nor the team as a whole play at that incredible pace, all season.
Dan Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Good result that to be fair. Referee an absolute disgrace.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Superb point tonight. Such a resilient performance from the back four, Wes and Huth are so solid, and since Simpson and Fuchs have come in, they've also been fantastic. Again the fullbacks were both great tonight. Kante great again, sensational work rate. Each player works for each other as one team, one unit and there is a togetherness within this group. Connection between fans and players remains key. What a way to finish 2015, joint top of the Premier League, and earlier in the year, one of the greatest survival stories ever. Fantastic year really for our club. Let's hope for another great one in 2016.
waylander Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 Great result , brilliant team effort , fox sport quoted man city 309 million, Leicester 17 million. Let that sink in , we are an incredible team
southfox66 Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 I think there are two ways of viewing tonights game 1. In the context of the last 12 months, tonight was a great result. 2. If you wanting to win the title, tonight might be seen as two points dropped.I didn't think Man city were ever that treatening and I don't think we were as sharp up front as we have been all season, maybe those two factors were both sides cancelling each other out.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 I thought Ranieri's tactics were spot on once again tonight. Spoke a lot of sense post match on Radio Leicester about what his plans were in the match. Knows what he's talking about certainly IMO.
The Horse's Mouth Posted 29 December 2015 Posted 29 December 2015 it was disgusting but can't knock a clean sheet against man city
