Carl the Llama Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 CUE overreacting drama llamas.... I resent that. Â Thought Bournemouth were good value for their point and expect us to step it up in response to this wake up call.
Corky Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Been a while since we've had both a poor result and performance at home (Hull the last one, I'd say). Just didn't look right today, certainly nothing like we've been used to. Mahrez was completely off, Ulloa's touch was appalling and we looked laboured at times. Â They played well and probably should've scored a couple. But then we should've done the same, Vardy's first half miss was crucial, but the penalty more so as it looked like the only way we'd score. Â It's clear the squad needs improving, the players have probably been playing above their natural level this season but dipped below it today. No reason to panic as we are still in an excellent position but we need to play much, much better than that.
Foxxed Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Couldn't watch it, but it's a real pity Schlupp is injured, since he'd seem like a player to liven us up, and I'm surprised Dyer didn't give us that. I wonder/suspect Ranieri has been concentrating on our defence, something definitely needed, while perhaps ignoring the attacking options, and I'm really surprised he's not been starting Vardy, Mahrez and others from the bench during this period, if it's so well known they're tired. Still, after the Christmas period, when we're hopefully less tired, will be a better indicator to our state, although I do wish we had players to replace Vardy, Mahrez, etc when they're tired. Was our defence any good, with the exception of the obvious clean sheet, today? I don't know if Bournemouth's attack was poor or not.
inckley fox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Must be the most reactionary post of the lot. I know it was disappointing but we didn't actually lose  I agree. The burden of goalscoring can't constantly be with Mahrez and Vardy; they've earned some slack. Some of the others need to rise to the fore now otherwise the demands on those two will become unbearable. I'd focus more on Albrighton and Dyer failing to offer anything in the way of supply, or the fact that all of our 'second strikers' have struggled to pose a threat this season, rather than turning on those two.  And I disagreed with his comment about us 'losing our fight'. Ulloa aside - who was the only man steadfastly refusing to press high up the field early on, and who seemed to sap the pace from our game with his movement both on and off the ball - I thought we worked extremely hard.  Bournemouth learnt from Liverpool, yes, but we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that we dealt with this, had the better of the chances and should definitely have won that game. If we work as hard as that, perhaps fine-tuning our delivery from the left and improving our options in the number ten position then we'll win more than we lose. Maybe that's a big 'if', I don't know, but if we're proactive (and I'm sure we will be) then there's every cause for optimism.
Guest Col city fan Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 The difference is that Bournemouth's chances were clear misses. Vardy's effort would have gone in had it been hit 2 inches to the right. Mahrez had his penalty saved and was on target. These are fine margins which could so easily have gone our way. I'm not sure if you are agreeing with me or not? Yes, Bournemouth's missers were sitters. Three of them. So was Vardy's.
Thracian Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Really?   I guess everyone's an expert in hindsight    That's exactly how he started at Leicester - creating a buzz of excitement as well. But then he got his head injury. And another knock reportedly which affected his knee. Whatever the reasons he's never looked anything like the same player since in any way. What do you expect. A slating when he plays well and praise when he's awful? If he's not fit he shouldn't be picked, it's that simple. If he is picked people will expect him to peform. He didn't. In fact his performance didn't compare creditably with anyone else for all our limitations. Most players rated close to a six or more and their efforts should have secured a win. Dyer played one good pass and didn't rate more the token "one" for that. Otherwise there was nothing of any consequence at all and a lot that was embarrassing.       Â

Maybe that's a big 'if', I don't know, but if we're proactive (and I'm sure we will be) then there's every cause for optimism. Ulloa's lack of pressing was driving me nuts - there was a point in the first half when Albrighton closed down the full back, Kante positioned himself to cut out the forward pass and Vardy hounded the full back too cutting out the pass option back to the centre back and Ulloa was just 10 metres away walking over towards Surman allowing a simple 5 yard pass to happen when it never should have been on. Kante, Vardy and Albrighton all busted a gut to get us the ball back and Ulloa is just ambling about. I can't blame him if he can't control the ball and his goals have deserted him: that's an inherent problem in his game and the manager is still picking him - that's Ranieri's fault not Ulloa's - but what is Ulloa's fault is ambling around the pitch and undermining a lot of the good work the other forwards are putting in.
Thracian Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Schlupp at his unpredictable best might have been a good wildcard today but let's not pretend his attacking contribution is anywhere near consistent and regular enough for us to be sure he would have made an impact. On a day where several genuinely good football players had a bad game it's disingenuous to say Schlupp would have been any better. We've actually put in our best performances of the season since schlupp was dropped and it's no coincidence that our defence looks ten times as strong as it did with him at left back. Â No-one's talkiing about Schlupp as a left-back. We've seem to have got one of those now. Â And no-one suggests Schlupp was ever consistent either. But he did attack defences with instant pace which caused players to double up on him and leave space elsewhere. In other words he disturbed their organisation and we weren't doing that at all today. Â As for performance I think they've been pretty good all along. And in the last quarter of last season too. In both spells Schlupp played his part and I'm damned sure we could have done with his pace today. Â
NewEnglandFox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 I do not understand the substitution that brought on Okazaki. We're up a man in a classic stuff the box/park the bus situation with none our none of our attacking threats over 5' 10" with one of them being the shortest guy in the league. How do we not bring on the biggest guy with the best forehead we have left? How did we not see Andy King in that scenario? Â Yes, I just endorsed Andy King...

THAT's what Schlupp gives you with his bursting runs. Someone has to go with him, leaving room in behind. Sorely missing today.
Webbo Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Schlupp would've certainly given something different today, he's a good option from the bench, he can't come back soon enough. Matty James would freshen up midfield too.

Thracian Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Which five or six would you shred @@Thracian ? Â Â That would entirely depend on who we can sign up in the window first.Â
fuchsntf Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 I dont think we played so bad as, some posters would have us think. Just because we are 2nd, we make buffoon statements like... 'we should be beating teams like Bournemouth' Its the codswallop that then have fans feeling disappointed, then concluding it was a poor game.. We ourselves would feel insulted if we were having mid-table form, being arrogantly told we are just not up to it..

Even if you take this game completely on its own, disregarding the form going into the game and the placement of the two teams we played badly. We were at home against 10 men with half an hour to play and we had two shots on target. That is playing badly, not even mentioning the individual performances that were encompassed within the game.
coolhandfox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 3 games in 7 days, two tough games against Liverpool and Man City. Just one of those days, same game another day it would have been 3-0!

Again..no it wouldn't! Bournemouth could have easily had 3 themselves first half. That's the point. Neither side could finish.

Still a good game to watch, and again not so bad... Against 10 men, so what.. Not so excillerating has some, but even now watching on Sky, a game of dips, players not at their best but still a good game. We aint Barcelona..

eastendfox Posted 2 January 2016 Posted 2 January 2016 Watching the Sky highlights after reading these comments I can only assume there are two different games. We may not have reached the heights of some games but our chances were far superior and only some poor finishing and bad luck denied us three points. No cause for panic from what I saw. Admittedly the rest of the game may have been rubbish
