Gray Signs

Buzzing with this signing. £3.75mil is an absolute steal for a player of Gray's potential and his attributes sound like they will suit our squad down to the ground. A very good first addition and a quality start to the January window. Debut at Spurs next weekend, after a week's training it'll be good to see what he can do

Welcome Demarai  :scarf:

Just because he isn't Inler or Kramaric no need to be racist lol

Glad we're still looking at English talent as well as aboard. Not the finished article but could potentially be a great bit of business. Reminds me of zaha, let's hope he has more end product.

used to play for Cadbury Athletic, so he's probably good at krafting chances

Albrighton has 19 starts and a 45' sub against Stoke in the 20 in the league games and had to go 120 at Hull as well. He's one of those guys the needs a rest. I hope Gray can come in and make an instant impact on Sunday and if he looks good gets another chance against Villa on next weekend as well. He's a Birmingham boy and has been at Brum for 9 years, I bet he has the thirst to get it done at Villa Park.

Dyer is cup tied as well isn't he? Could see dodoo again if he's back.

The average age of the squad has risen quite quickly since the substantial investment in youth in 2012, so it's good to see us looking to the future again. We need to be signing the next Mahrez before the existing Mahrez leaves, and unless we're making a serious push for the title - in which case we need 2 or 3 experienced, ready-to-roll signings - the obvious thing is to keep developing for the years to come, and I suppose that will mean gradually pulling that average age down again.

I liked what Ranieri said the other day - that the priority is to bring in good young players and for them to 'grow up' with the rest of the squad. He has a good record as a squad builder, even if his early signings haven't necessarily suggested that so far, and we have a scouting network in place with a proven track record in this regard, so the signs are positive. Whether Gray will fulfil his potential, or go the same way as some of our erstwhile up-and-comers from periods where we've tried to invest in youth (Benjamin, Cresswell, Lee Marshall and so on) remains to be seen, but the policy is encouraging.

Yes, I like Albrighton a lot but he's been one of the slight question marks lately, along with - needless to say - the 'second striker' role. So he may well get chances sooner rather than later.

No.

Dyer is on a season long loan.

The reason he didn't play in the League Cup is because he'd already played for Swansea and was cup tied.

I'm 99.9% sure Dyer is available for selection.

Dodoo is FA cup tied to Bury. We'd need Swansea's blessing for Dyer but I don't know why they wouldn't give it to us. None of the guys that on loan in the championship are cup tied because they come in this round.

And 99.9% of the time on his Arse...

I love young talent and taking a chance on the younger, unfinished, and cheaper product. But the average age of the squad has risen sharply in the last year because Schwartzer literally adds a year to the average age of the squad.

The laughing face at the end suggests it was a joke based on our conversations on a few threads about both players.

I wouldn't dismiss Dyer on the strength of 45 minutes, especially as he hasn't had too much game time (what? 70-80 minutes in the league since his debut?). He tried his best, unlike Ulloa who seemed to have no interest whatsoever in a high pressing game and as such stymied our typical game, but nothing whatsoever worked out for him. He might have to wait his turn now, but I'm sure we'll see more from him.

Well that's true as well! But our line-up's average age this season has been over 27, whereas it was 23-25 through most of the 2012-13 season, so it suggests the need for some kind of injection of younger talent. I always thought the best way to break up the Man City - United - Arsenal - Chelsea monopoly on titles would be for a side which had invested in the best upcoming talent to have 3 or 4 players suddenly come good at the same time. It hasn't quite happened yet, but you have to hope.

If this means we can rest Mahrez instead of dragging him out every match regardless that'd be ****ing majestic. Welcome, Mr Gray!

I don't think he is eligible to play against Spurs in the cup.

Three club signings rule or something obscure.

Perhaps someone could clarify.

Where did you hear this? I don't see why he would be ineligible, he's not played for Brum in this year's competition.
