BlueJoe Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 that very statement may well have driven the price up to £23m .I think only a few very big clubs in the uk have paid more than that on a transfer - anyway - good debate. I wanted him too bud! But that's the point! Only that very few big clubs have won the league or qualified for the Champions League...
CKB Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 We failed with Musa Chelsea did a u-turn with Remy We had an inquiry for Diouf shot straight down by Stoke So basically we just couldn't get it right with Musa. Not a disaster as some wet wipes are harping on about Musa for the summer? more than likely
fuchsntf Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 we left things too late striker wise Not true...We have been chasing a couple in the early days.
Bagworthblue Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 But that's the point! Only that very few big clubs have won the league or qualified for the Champions League... when you argue with the missus who gets the last word?
weller54 Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Ever seen one of those kicking a football though. GTF was as big as a house!
STUHILL Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Seems to me Eder was the early favourite and he was available and keen but then Inter came in and ruined that for us. Musa was then, or had been a target throughout and we pushed hard to get a deal but 23 million is a LOT of money. Even 18 million was a lot for him. Probably didn't help that we had Remy possibility and so we told CSKA to bugger off at that price. Remy wanted the loan move, Chelsea were ok with it if Falcao stayed but waiting on this and then to have Chelsea say nahhhh with hardly any time left really fooked us over. Late bid for Diouf from Stoke, instantly rejected. No time left to get anything done and we go into the last 15 games praying Vardy can play them all. I'm surprised we let Benny and De Laet go too. All in all, a frustrating and strange window for us. Started well with Gray and Amartey. Ended badly. A win tomorrow and we will all get the buzz back!!
jayfox26 Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 All in all, I feel it was a successful window. Signed two good youngsters for cheap in Amartey and Gray and kept hold of our top players. A new striker would have been nice but we have to be happy with what we've got. Most of the teams around us only have 3 strikers so I'm sure we'll be fine. I can see us using a 4-3-3 formation a bit as well and using mahrez and either dyer or gray as wingers off vardy. We have lots of attacking options with mahrez, dyer, Albrighton and gray plus schlupp to come back as well. So long as Vardy doesn't get injured, I'm sure we'll be fine
Bayfox Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 We failed with Musa Chelsea did a u-turn with Remy We had an inquiry for Diouf shot straight down by Stoke So basically we just couldn't get it right with Musa. Not a disaster as some wet wipes are harping on about Musa for the summer? more than likely Problem with waiting till the summer is more clubs may move for him and we could have finished 8th and won't be such an attractive proposition.Just to play devil's advocate. This really feels like a missed opportunity. 3 young signings in great not a bad transfer window. But what a chance to try and make a statement. If vardy gets injured we really could miss out. Ranieri has been very good for the club and coy with transfers. But he stated he wanted a striker then seems to have gone back on that a bit. Wonder if he feels let down a little. Flip side. We know hanging on to our players was the best business this Jan. Let's hope we can finish in a position that makes it easier to do it again in the summer.
BlueJoe Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 when you argue with the missus who gets the last word? She doesn't argue anymore haha
5waller5 Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 Whilst I'm disappointed we made 3 bids on players today and simply couldn't persuade their clubs to sell. If our top target had come in then we'd have had the biggest transfer of the day, it didn't happen - but it's hardly like we aren't showing ambition making a £18m bid.

Did we all honestly think Leicester were gonna be an attractive proposition for Cambiasso? and it happened. 34 or not it was a huge coup still for lil old LeicesterJust enjoy the ride, whether we finish 1st, 2nd, 4th or 8th we I think have set the ground work for becoming a very decent established PL team

Exactly! people saying no ambition shown are just throwing their toys out the pram
ajthefox Posted 1 February 2016 Posted 1 February 2016 A little disappointed but there are so many over-reactions in here. "Ohhh go on, just stick another 5 million on top of that record breaking (by 200%) figure we've already offered, that's peanuts." They cry, whilst bemoaning that our last record breaking striker has gone out on loan and appears to be a complete flop and the one before that is not good enough for the PL. Anyone see the irony in that...?
chapero82 Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 Not true...We have been chasing a couple in the early days. it was best not to leave everything until the final day though
Bagworthblue Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 She doesn't argue anymore haha I wonder why - oddly enough neither does mine .. ahem
Alf Bentley Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 I'm trying to think positive here, particularly re. strikers: - Okazaki's form has been improving steadily in recent games - Ulloa looked good v. Stoke & isn't as bad as the moaners like to claim - We'll now be averaging just 1 game per week, so fatigue/fitness shouldn't be a major issue - We might NOT get injuries or suspensions affecting strikers - We've kept ALL our top players, who might have gone elsewhere - We've made some promising new signings for the future, who could contribute this season - Er, we're still top of the bloody league! Truth is the lack of strikers DOES concern me. We have enough midfielders and wingers to play various other formations (4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 4-5-1, whatever) but are very short of good options for 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1, our favoured formations. We do have other options up front, not just Vardy/Leo/Shinji, but they all involve players out of position or unproven as strikers at this level: Mahrez or King as 2nd striker, Gray or Schlupp up front etc. Let's just hope we carry on being lucky with injuries! Our league goalscorers so far this season: Vardy 16, Mahrez 13, Okazaki 4, Ulloa 2, The Rest 1 or 0..... Would be a good time for 1 or 2 others to start hitting the net.... Was anyone to blame for us not getting another striker in? The Musa/Eder/Gayle/Diouf scenarios are just the sort of things that happen - pretty unavoidable, assuming our interest was as reported. Falcao, of all people, seems to have stymied the Remy bid. Could we have anticipated that potential problem and lined up another standby option? Maybe, but how many options can you reasonably juggle - and how far down your list are you prepared to go? "We move on!", as Sir Nige would say....on with the prospect of 3.5 months of roller-coaster excitement with big rewards at the end, potentially - starting tomorrow (EDIT: this evening!) COYB
lestajigs Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 I know we a very unlikely to finish top, but come on the owners say they are ambitious and want top 4, well I don't know if they know we will never ever be in a better position then we are now, another striker would of covered all posts, if we do not finish top 4 now we have self to blame because we didn't have enough targets that would be a real shane
STUHILL Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 I know I keep posting this, but I've had a look at unattached strikers and free to join our club and Robinho is there... just turned 32, plays AMC, LW or as Striker. 6 month contract and chance to win the Prem? Surely better to take a risk on him than stick with 3 strikers and one of them being Ulloa, who yes isn't that bad, but can be woeful on occassions.
MPH Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 After reading this thread, one can only suspect that most posters never witnessed the pleat years....
john ridley Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 After reading this thread, one can only suspect that most posters never witnessed the pleat years....Or Mclintock
chapero82 Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 I wonder why we never went back to Niang it's been a weird window this one
City1884 Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 The people that are saying "Why did we not just stump up the extra £5m for Musa?" are really winding me up now! £5m, if you go back 18 months was our TRANSFER RECORD!! We got Mahrez for £500k! We got Vardy for £1m! We got Schmeichel for £1.2m! Not to mention Huth, Morgan, Albrighton, Kante, Drinkwater........... We could go on and on and on! £5m can get you a LOT, it's not money you just throw away on (IMO) a gamble on a striker that has never played in the toughest league in the world. Not that I'm saying bargains like those are easy to come by, but better value for money is definitely out there! Just possibly not in January. In my opinion £18m, which we did offer, was too much of a gamble in itself. There are probably only a pool of around 25 players IN THE WORLD where "just" an extra £5m is worth paying to get a deal over the line, and trust me, even being top of the league wouldn't get those players to come to Leicester! Let's be thankful that our top stars are still here! We don't seem to be in any worse of a position than before January, in that I can't think of any January signings for any of the top 4 clubs that are really game changing, so it's pretty much "as you were". Kramaric wasn't playing a part, not even from the bench, Benny only got games in the cups which we are no longer in, De Laet was decent cover which is slightly strange, but all in all I for one am not complaining. Also, if Amartey is anywhere near the level that Kante is, it would turn out to be another amazing signing. My hope is that in the summer we do spend £10m plus on a striker, but even then Musa wouldn't be on my list. Rant over...........
The other Ollie Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 Yes, we should go all out to hire the whole of Newcastles recruitment team. Look how that's working out, just think where we could be ....... skint
Guest Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 So we'll have to continue the season with the team that it at the top of the league.
Bunyip Posted 2 February 2016 Posted 2 February 2016 People can put a happy ah well spin on it all they like . The fact is we have missed out on an opportunity to capitalise on a once in a life time chance to win this league. If Vady gets injured we have blown it . the two other strikers have proved they are not up to it. Nothing really changes does it same old Leicester , puts you on a horse but don't let you ride it . We are going to look back on this transfer window with real regret that we did not take our chance.
