americanfox Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 He gets swapped for being a... Bristol City fan. What an inferiority complex from Spuds fans.
Larry_LCFC Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 'Pressure from social media' So they don't want Spurs fans constantly whinging at them. Surely it is for the PL to come out and say they trust their referees to be unbiased and fair. Caving into social media this time will just set a shit precedent for the future.
Mythyaar Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 I'm glad. To eliminate any perception of bias against Spurs, he'd have tried to be as fair as he could to them, to potentially being "too fair" to them. Good result for us.
filbertway Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 So they are basically saying they dont trust their own referee not to be bias? Probably just don't think it's worth every nobhead on twitter spamming them with complains about conspiracy theories and trying to have the league played again. Considering it's hard to go one week without multiple talking points, there's a good chance there'd be some controversial decision in the Stoke game. Fake twitter/social media outrage is one of the most annoying things around.
filbertstreet Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 ...who else thought this was going to be a story of a person being ousted from a group of mates for a Leicester fan and replaced by a stranger?
Koke Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Mark Clattenburg is a Newcastle fan. Does that means he can't ref games involving Newcastle, Sunderland, Norwich and until recently Swansea, Bournemouth and Palace as well?
red5 Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 I thought according to spurs fans all refs are supporting leicester.
shiv Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Mark Clattenburg is a Newcastle fan. Does that means he can't ref games involving Newcastle, Sunderland, Norwich and until recently Swansea, Bournemouth and Palace as well? I'm pretty sure that's right. The issue here is Kevin Friend isn't even a Leicester fan. Such a joke. Spurs are getting desperate now
filbertway Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Mark Clattenburg is a Newcastle fan. Does that means he can't ref games involving Newcastle, Sunderland, Norwich and until recently Swansea, Bournemouth and Palace as well? Obviously not Newcastle, to be honest I'd say any well known rivals as well. In terms of refereeing games that would affect your team, I guess you make a game by game judgement on that. I don't doubt that any ref would attempt to be as impartial and unbiased as any game. They're humans though and prone either bias or even going the other way and overcompensating by favouring the other team. Not putting a ref in a position where they're under extra scrutiny from everybody makes sense to me. No idea why anybody would have an issue with it.
Shelf Side Spurs Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Kevin Friend did ref Norwich v Spurs back in January. Spurs won 3-0. And he gave us the softest of penalties.....but in all honesty it was a stupid appointment by the FA in the first place. Personally I don't think it would have made much difference but it takes the scrutiny away.
Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Hahahaa I would love it if the new ref gives Stoke a couple of really dodgy penalties. A friend of a Friend?
Foxmeister Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Mike ****ing Dean He was credited with 2 assists for Kane's hat trick against us last season and ran to get him the match ball like he'd won a bloody Oscar.
foxy boxing Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 so social media now dictates to get things they don't like changed.
Vestan Pance Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 I'll be amazed if the Referee who has now been appointed to this game doesn't give Spurs at least one ridiculous decision in their favour.
Guest seanfox778 Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 So Spurs have a say in who officiates matches and they still can't get to the top of the league.
teblin Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 This will return to bite them! They'lll have a dodgy decision by the replacement ref.
1972 Fox Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Would not be surprised if the Premier League appointed Chris Waddle or Glenn Hoddle as the referee for Spurs remaining matches with Chas & Dave as the two linesmen.
C-man Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Once it had come to light it was quite clearly the correct thing to do. I think removing him as ref probably works out best for us - makes them look desperate and removes any chance that Friend may have sided with Spurs on any 50/50s to kill the idea he was biased. Overselling his impartiality, if you will.
HighPeakFox Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 I suspect social media had zero impact on this decision. It seems pragmatic to me. But reactionaries will react.....
Kitchandro Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 A lot of games are decided by refs so this is disappointing... No but seriously if that's the reason then it's a disgrace, they sign a contract before starting their professional career and should be trusted. Disagree. You can't just 'trust' referees to be impartial.
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Does it really matter, according to Spurs the entirety of the professional Game Match officials Board not only want us to win the league they are fixing it for us anyway.
Guest Foxin_mad Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 I hope the new ref makes the shitest of shit decisions. It is Neil Swarbrick no who is utterly utterly bad!
weller54 Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Typical whinging Spuds! Come on The Potters stuff the twats!
fuchsntf Posted 14 April 2016 Posted 14 April 2016 Dont worry fellas...New appointed ref after looking at his family tree is related to King Richard III, his auntie is a NCP car park attendant. His sister, was on the archeological dig, when finding King dick, his gran was the clairvoyant, who released the revenging Spirit... Even better their family is related to wilfred Brambel, the great grandad of James Vardy.....Small world innit... .
