gdl9050 Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 When we win, there next game is essentially a free hit. They can just go all out for the win as they have nothing to lose. But now they know they have a real opportunity to cut the gap I reckon there is added pressure. I can see Stoke getting at least a draw tomorrow.
AKCJ Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 I don't think they've been under pressure for a long time considering A) They're not expected to be in the top 4 let alone fighting for the title and B) They've been miles behind. The pressure is on them to win tomorrow. If they lose then, for me, the title race is over.
EastAnglianFox Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 They could and possibly should also be worried about Arsenal and Man City pinching 2nd or even 3rd off them. Big pressure on them to get something tomorrow imo.
NewEnglandFox Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 The pressure is on them to win regardless of our result today if they want to continue to chase the title. I don't think the "marginal pressure" between us winning and drawing makes much of a difference in a 7, 8, or 10 point gap as it takes multiple weekends taking more points than us to make up that gap. And because we're chasing their points potential, not necessarily the gap between us, dropped points for them are really points gained for us.
weller54 Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 How interested will Stoke be though? Nothing to play for really!
Jimothy Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Last time we offered them a chink of light, the chance to move to 2 points behind, they lost 1-0 to West Ham. I'm hoping this a sign they haven't got the mentality to deal with the pressure when a huge chance presents itself. How interested will Stoke be though? Nothing to play for really! Their captain has come out and said he wants to beat them to help us win the title.
ronnup Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Stoke away is a minging game. They'll be well up for it. And some of their top earners will live being the live game. Bit of shop window action maybe too.
gdl9050 Posted 17 April 2016 Author Posted 17 April 2016 They still have a chance for europa league too and they lost 4-1 last game. I rate mark Hughes as a manager and he often gets a reaction out the players.
EnglishOxide Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Yes. It's no longer 'play with no pressure and we will see what happens'. It is now 'we must win this match'.
Guest Lcfc82 Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 I'd say there under more pressure now we have dropped points. As long as we've been winning nobody is expecting them to win the title, now the have an opportunity to close the gap it will add a bit of pressure. Still expect them to beat Stoke though
Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Spurs are rubbish. They aren't challenging for the league this season or any other season. They will do a Liverpool and after coming second will slide back into midtable below their beloved "Woolwich". We will do the same but the difference is we will have gold badges, the most amazing season ever and the right number of chromosomes.
Monsell1976 Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Looking at Spurs remaining fixtures, if they catch us they deserve the title, they still have some tough games, and like us, nerves will come into it. Their last game, away at Newcastle, if Newcastle need to win to stay up, it could make it interesting
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Today's result will give them renewed vigour, so come on, Stoke, help us out.
smudger63 Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Stoke away, when they`re really at it, is a really tough game, but they seem to have already got their flip flops on, so i don`t see Tottenham having too much of a problem with them. Hope i`m wrong though. Having seen Chelsea yesterday, the same might be said for them!!
AyewJoking Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 does it really change anything? whether we won, drew or lost to west ham spurs still need to win against stoke. i would think they will be focussed fully on taking 3 points.
maynefox Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 I can't see Stoke getting anything (unless it is cold and wet tomorrow night). Tottenham are a very very good side... a lot of us overlook the quality in their squad. I'm banking on Newcastle to take something off them in a few weeks time at St James'.
ithuriel Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 They know they have to win every game, but the pressure for the Stoke game just became more because they could close the gap from 8 to 5 points. Would still be a 5 point lead with 12 points remaining if they get the win, if they lose then it would be a massive blow to them.
lgfualol Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 They'll win their next two easy. Up to us not to **** it.
Guest Bilo Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Spurs are in a slightly different position to us in that they must, barring an almighty collapse from us, win all five. We could lose all our remaining games and Spurs will still need to win three of their last five to pass the 73 points we have. So while our ethos is, at worst, must not lose, they're needing a win in all of their remaining games. Stoke away is infamously awkward, West Brom were a thorn in our side a month ago and love a shock result, Chelsea will be in no mood for giving them favours especially after yesterday's shocker against Man City and St James' Park could be a hard place to go on the final day if the Geordies need anything. Most teams would look at some of those fixtures thinking a point would be a good result, but Spurs will probably need all of them to overtake us. Not impossible, and we've won nothing yet, but we have more wiggle room.
ARM1968 Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Tottenham simply have to win. Nothing else is good enough now. That is pressure right there. Stoke on a cool, overcast Monday night is not something to relish. I think Stoke will get something from this game.
weller54 Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Such a shame Butland is injured.. I'm hearing Shay Given may play ffs!!!
UpTheLeagueFox Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 Worst case scenario is a five point gap with four to play. Let's hope the Stokies give them a right going over.
FrankieADZ Posted 17 April 2016 Posted 17 April 2016 How interested will Stoke be though? Nothing to play for really! they should be, they have an outside chance of getting in the Europa league if they managed to get points, and every place higher in the league means more money for the club and probably the players too
