pleatout Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 Not seen this posted on here, if it's elsewhere feel free to delete/merge but I've just seen this on Facebook Kim-Malou Worthington 3 hrs · There has been a few wandering about my dad's health recently and so I thought i should let you all know Frank Worthington has Alzhiemers. He was diagnosed several years ago and has been holding it off with POSITIVE thinking and football ⚽ . They say several footballers from my dads era seem to have suffered the same disease, possibly due to the constant heading of the heavy football back in the day. As time goes by though, there are moments when you see the effects of Alzhiemers and this is hard sometimes for all those involved with a loved one who has this disease. It's a funny thing that the one big lesson my dad always taught me was 'mind over matter'.... No matter how hard life gets, being positive will pull you through, Every adversity is a opportunity for change and growth... Thanks dad, that is the biggest gift you ever gave me! And now this silly Alzhiemers is taking you away from all that you taught me.... My heart goes out to all those effected by Alzhiemers, what a journey it is for all those effected!! ❤
ThaiFox Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 Frank Worthington was one of my heros in the brilliant Jimmy Bloomfield era. My Father recently passed away and he had Alzhiemers. It's a horrible thing to happen to someone and, watching the strong person you love and respect, deteriorate is dreadful. I wish strength to his family.
Wymsey Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 Been suspected for a couple of years by some. I wish him and his family the best. Glad that football health board are investigating impact on brain and players heading the ball - perhaps, sadly, there may be more cases in the future linked to head-to-ball of current football professionals and the condition that Frank has?
Izzy Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 I thought this had been common knowledge for some time? Maybe he's deteriorated recently and it's so sad. Watching the 'Mavericks' documentary recently reminded me of what a natural talent and magician he was. I was just too young to see him play in the flesh, but my overriding memory will be when we went to Wembley one play off year in the 90's (too drunk to remember which one) and the coach stopped at Watford Gap services. There seemed like thousands of us queuing for a slash and someone noticed Frank at the urinal. We all broke out in a chorus of "There's only one Frankie Wortho!" and he looked around and pissed all over his brown winkle pickers. Funny as fook. He loved it. Legend.
english77 Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 I saw him play a lot of games for us just pure talent very sad to here this but it was a pleasure to have seen him in a Leicester City shirt
holyfox Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 Frank Worthington was the embodiment of cool when I was a kid watching football on the box. Rock star looks and the skill and confidence of a wizard on the pitch. Heart goes out to you and your family
johnny the fox Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 This is part of our life / existence... Frank is an idol to me. I have met and touched the man, we need to celebrate and remember the joy he as experienced and the joy and great times he brought us as well... he has a rare talent . but it needs to be pointed out he had hell of a good time doing it ..in the scale of things, he has had a blessed life..
ilam Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 Shit, double shit. Hope Frank is getting the very best treatment and support available. Kim, you sound like an angel. Big hugs to your dad.
TrentFox Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 My first footballing hero. Loved this guy so much. Best wishes to all the family if anyone reads this. Frank was just amazing and his memory still makes me smile.
ftfagos Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 Had a first touch that was only just shy of Dennis Bergkamp. One of the truly great LCFC legends.
Nuneatonfox in Manchester Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 very sad news, i met him about 7 or 8 years ago at the Ricoh, really nice bloke, very down to earth and had all the time in the world for us
wokinghamfox Posted 5 May 2016 Posted 5 May 2016 One of the greatest players of his time. Frank was a genius and entertained with great skill when there was so many other kickers in the pro game during that period. Would put Frank alongside George Best in football greatness.
Vlad the Fox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Sad to here. I was born just as he scored in a 1-0 at ipswich, I was nearly called Frank. Hope he's aware of our success this season.
Rincewind Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 From my era. Enjoyed football more because of him and fellow city players at the time. That side had potential.
Buce Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 My boyhood hero, and the most naturally gifted Engllish player ever, imo. If he'd been born Italian he'd have 100 caps.
GaelicFox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 My boyhood hero, and the most naturally gifted Engllish player ever, imo. If he'd been born Italian he'd have 100 caps. He would Have been a global icon , lovable rogue as well and Latins appriciate those guys more than we do
Ron Combo Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 So loved his warm up routine and then his sublime touches, skill, goals. My very best wishes to him and his family. A true Leicester legend.
norwichfox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 I enjoyed watching Frank's skilful play always had such a nice character too, so sad to read this, I appreciate you sharing this Kim
Guest Col city fan Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Anyone got a clip of that goal he scored? Think it was for Bolton? Where he flicked it over the defender and volleyed it home? One of the best goals I've ever seen.

whetstonefox Posted 6 May 2016 Posted 6 May 2016 Perhaps we should have a Frank Worthington day on a match day next season. Match day programme dedicated to him , screen showing his magic moments from all his clubs, we can all dress up at Elvis in recognition of the Franks love for him. We have all these minutes applause nowadays, think he's worthy of something a bit more given the joy he bought to Foxes fans.
